Worrying about the little things isn't so important when you have to deal with the big things.

Untreated anxiety is an awful way to live.
I'm glad you found something that worked for you, and I hope others read your post. For me, medication was awful, but CBT worked. I don't deal with that sort of anxiety hardly at all anymore, and it's like having my life back.
Yikes. There are nowtwothree women talking about their anxiety in your thread, I hope you find a way to manage your emotions about how other people deal with their struggles.

Yet adrenaline boosts do not cause alarm e.g. when watching an action film or partying.
What if anxiety is just feeling rushes of adrenaline without an obvious trigger? Then the brain not seeing a visible trigger, tries to figure out through amplifying the senses what the trigger is.
If that's the case then the brain can be retrained to ignore surges of adrenaline.

I know anxiety exists. When did I say it didn't? But most people don't have "anxiety" in the way they think it is. Some chick, literally right after I posted this thread, posted a meme about anxiety that said "so when did anxiety start for you?" And the picture was multiplication tables from grammar school. What a fukking retard. The people I know that actually have anxiety, will randomly have to walk out of a room to calm down or will leave the grocery store mid shopping and not bring home any groceries.
All these bandwagon jumpers don't. They use it as an excuse for their behavior or where they are in life, or their actions. It's a veil to shield them from the real world. It is pathetic. When you go to a job interview, you get nervous. You don't need anxiety pills for that. Why do you think everyone is on pills nowadays? Does suddenly everyone have anxiety disorders? No. It's a bubble they use to make people believe they have issues which is why they act the way they act. The people I know that actually have anxiety, rarely talk about it.
What does suicide have to do with anxiety? Is all anxiety linked to suicides? Is it then also linked to depression? Is all suicide anxiety induced?
The idiocy stems from allowing people that don't actually have anxiety disorders, to use lie and abuse it for pills and/or social issues. It's asinine.

To be fair, peep this list of "mental illnesses" upon which people were admitted to mental hospitals or insane asylums from 1864 to 1889. Im pretty sure they used to drug them back then too, and there were some inhumane treatments

"Medicine to prevent conception"
"Novel reading"
"Over action of the mind"
"Political excitement"
"Asthma"
LOL. Some people were unjustly entered

This is strait forward in my opinion.
- more competitiveness in economy, companies could care less about their employees
- people are searching for a "tribe" (less emphasis on family and children)
- consumerism, marketing, thinking you are going to be a star in life
- less socialization (you can sit at home and be entertained: think show-binging and gaming)
- social media (everyone pretending their life is perfect)
I think parenting has something to do with it but there is more going on.

People are giving up control of their lives which induces "anxiety." Or at least the feelings that are encompassed through that word.
Why don't people strip themselves down and find out why this is the way it is? I guarantee I could have gotten 100 pills for anxiety back in the day because of how I was with public speech. Used to get a flushed face, upset stomach, sweaty, nervous, and even shake a little. This was in high school into college. My teacher in college for speech, after I got the worst grade in the class on the first speech, worked with me a lot. He planted the seed of how I should feel about the speech, how to become better, and how to mentally prepare for it. I figured out the reason why I was like that was simply because growing up in middle school and high school, my teachers would make fun of me for answering questions which they deemed wrong, despite being subjective in nature. This made me fear speaking in front of other's because I didn't want to look stupid, despite being intelligent and in all top level classes.
Now I have zero fear of speaking in public. I only have a little nerves if I don't know what I am talking about. So stripping down my supposed fear or irrational thought process, ended in me identifying the underlying problem, then fixing it.
Why can't most people do this? I'm not special. You're not fukked up with some condition (unless you have been diagnosed and is a major impairment on your life.). You just don't know how to deal with control.
I can go on and on but I already know most of these people that have anxiety but not an actually anxiety disorder will just tell me i don't understand and pills are the only answer.

I am not sure this has been said before, so forgive me if it has. But we have eliminated a large amount of the "inconvenient filler" portions of our life, that took up a lot of time. You add that to the fact that we are connected to the world 24/7, and our voices can be heard any time we wish them to be...
You've literally got a recipe for creating humans who are less capable of putting up with minor stressors, and more likely to vocalize their issue with them.

It's all about the meaning you attach to your nervousness. Nervousness is just a light version of fight-or-flight mode, and in our current society it's pretty easy to run away from something, so a lot of people never learn to associate nervousness with won fights. When you don't get anything out of all those bouts of nervousness you experience, of course you end up interpreting them as something bad, and that's what anxiety is, as much an interpretation as a feeling. If on the other hand you manage to face your challenges and are lucky enough to get something out of them too, it's easier to just ignore the nervousness or even interpret it as positive excitement. But often there's a lot of luck involved, beginning with your genes, hormone levels in your mother's womb, your upbringing (probably the biggest factor) etc., and it's hard to rewire your brain once you've been down the anxiety path.

Yes, people lived differently hundreds of years ago. There was adrenaline, cool. We know that. Animals were designed to overcome adversity and where there isn't enough adversity the mind makes its own.
I don't have "anxiety", but I do/did have a pretty crippling fear of heights. My wife does have general anxiety though (which I don't understand, but am able to observe).
I attacked my fear of heights by doing safe activities that triggered my fear of heights. Rock Climbing, Ropes Courses, Cliff Jumping, Drop style roller coasters...
I can't say I like those actives, but I am now able to function when addressed with situation where I can fall and hurt myself.
My wife does not force herself to face those situations and never does manage to overcome the problem.
Humans work off cause and effect. Random adrenaline dumps do happen to people. I think they start attaching random circumstances as the trigger and their anxiety worsen as more and more random circumstances get linked to adrenaline dumps.
There are some that believe anxiety isn't real. I am not one of these people. I just happen to believe the cause is that your lower brain functions are not knowing what to do with its self. How the person attacks the fear seems to change whether it is life altering or not.
These are obviously just my guesses and not based on scientific tests. (Though I did look and couldn't find anything either way)

I dont know about others but my panic attacks were intially triggered by alcohol abuse, after the first major panic attack 3 years later I continue to get them from time to time but I can bring them somewhat under control as opposed to the first few times, which were really horrible, the worst feeling imaginable, would not wish them upon my worst enemy

Anxiety, depression, loneliness, etc are normal human states and emotions that have existed as long as we have. You just hear about them more now because people are mentally and emotionally weaker and less able to handle the basic challenges of life.
And like others have said, you hear about this more from people who live rather privileged lives (as they tend to be weaker due to never having faced real challenges).

I have panic disorder and general anxiety from a rough life. When it happens my body shuts down and I get sick or stop moving. It's not a pleasant feeling.
Some other people are just talking out of their arses and more complaining about bad "nerves"

During my attacks all my senses are heightened. My hearing get sharp as hell. An intercom sounds almost like I'm at a football match. Vehicles passing by sound like trains. I notice more things people are doing. 20 people talking sounds like 300. My sense of touch is heightened too.
So part of my mind thinks ok, where is the danger? And as I try to figure that out my senses get even more sensitive and my brain starts to feel exhausted. Fight or flight starts to kick in and because I cannot run, I start getting concerned.
Part of my brain knows there is no danger but my body is not heeding much to my minds attempt to return to normal. So that's how anxiety attacks etc are. I am trying to reprogram my brain but it will take time.

Previous generations dealt with tough upbringings, wars, depressions, etc. Thats why they are mentally tougher and we didn’t see widespread anxiety.
Now kids are being raised in bubbles. Being told they are amazing and perfect and can accomplish anything. They are told they need to get a degree and they can do anything. Then once they are in debt with a degree and in the real world they realize how harsh it is.
This is further compounded by technology and social media. They see everyone with their fake facade lives on Instagram. Constantly traveling and buying new things and they feel depression and like they can’t keep up because they don’t have that.

Sorry I'm not a panzy ******* like half of society that thinks getting nervous, having a rough go in life, and trying to grind through meaning, automatically becomes anxiety. That is just a bull**** term that people use nowadays to cover up their inability to deal with any daily stressor because they are weak.
I am a person that is confident in who I am. Does me getting nervous for a job interview mean I have anxiety and need pills? How about when I moved back home from california, had 22k in student loans with no money, no job, and no path in life. Was me stressing about my situation "anxiety?" Is that when I develop it? Is that when I go and get the pills?
If I wasn't on recharge I'd neg you. I have only given out 1 neg since coming back.

You get butt hurt about other peoples issues (strange), and when you're called out for being ignorant, you threaten retaliation like negs (disappointing)? You sound like a fragile, pseudo-intellectual man-child acting out... grow up.
Spend less time on the MISC, and more time educating yourself. The fact you think you "have it all figured out" means you know nothing.

Something in your past is causing it.
I recommend you find a therapist that does EMDR. That is what cured me of them. Haven’t had a single panic attack in about 3 years now whereas I used to get them constantly.

This thread jibes with my mental health thread, where I qurstioned the state of mental health in the US, with the point being that it's more prevalent here than other places. Like OP, every other person I know has "anxiety." This was never a complaint where I grew up.

Heres the reason; You have what is called a "frontal lobe". That part of the brain where you do most of your thinking. This has grown as man has evolved. The frontal lobe is a great tool which allows you to solve problems and plan. Its the part of the brain that is always talking to itself.
The problem comes when you identify solely and completely with your frontal lobe [ as is more and more common with modern humans]. You believe that you are a frontal lobe which is just carrying a giant bag of meat around. You are, of course NOT simply a frontal lobe you are much more than that. Modern society, however has become more and more a function of this part of the brain. Television, your smartphone, the internet, are all relentlessly stimulating the frontal lobe which has become over-developed.
Now the frontal lobe is a problem solving machine. It exists to solve the problems of life and keep you one step ahead of death. The trouble is this problem solving machine is constantly looking for problems to solve [ because that is all it does ]. And when there are no problems to solve, it creates them. So, if you identify yourself as a frontal lobe, you will live in a constant state of anxiety.
That is the root cause of everything related to anxiety. Everything else is just a by-product. If you have anxiety it is because; EITHER you live in a dangerous environment which justifies being anxious, OR because you identify too strongly with your frontal lobe, you are too much in your own head, and you have forgotten that you are really much more than that.

Anxiety is a fancy word for stress really, it’s true, we all have it, it’s always been around and yes it’s increasing in this world but are you going to use it as an excuse? Throw your hands up and say... I have anxiety issues, or are you going to take action to alleviate your stress in a rational manner?

Everyone ITT who is genuinely interested in an answer should read the book "The Paradox of Choice". It's an easy 6/5 book, and will change the way you see the world.
Cliffs of cliffs of a few insights from the book (seriously, read the fukken book).
*The more choices we have, the more opportunity cost (ie. the amount of stuff we are rejecting by choosing something) goes up. Having 80 different kinds of breakfast cereal on the shelf is wonderful, but to say yes to one is to say no to 79. If you've ever felt any sort of cognitive struggle in a grocery aisle over a decision that's ultimately utterly trivial, you get it.
*^Following from the above, the more choice we have in every area of our life. You could move to California or New York tomorrow if you really had to. All these farmers a few generations ago who were born, worked, and died on the family farm had nowhere near the quality of your life, but none of them were sitting around whining "what is my purpoooooose?"
*The wider and more connected our world gets, the more we feel inadequate or like we aren't doing enough. Simple example: 100 years ago if you were a hot-chit HS quarterback you were God in your 5 town area. Now thanks to the internet you're being compared to EVERY HS qb in the nation. If you've ever seen a YouTube vid of some 14 year old kid who's better at something you love than you will ever be, you get it.
On balance the modern world is the BEST, bar none, time to be alive there has ever been, but that does not mean it doesn't come with it's own set of problems. Compared to working in a coal mine or storming the beaches of Normandy or having dental work done without Novacaine, I'll take it, but most of our challenges now are paradoxically the result of our affluence.

With EMDR, you follow a light or dot going across a bar with your eyes and the therapist walks you through the memories or you silently go through them in your head and your brain reprocesses them. It sounds weird yet simple but it works and is very effective for trauma and anxiety.
Its one of the best things I decided to do and cured me of the debilitating panic attacks. I would always fear when they would happen since it was so random.
