And yet the middle class is crying loudest when the left wants to tax the 1% more.

People just like having something to cry about, yet don’t want to do anything to change the situation. Your friend should of stopped shopping there and encouraged others to do the same.

Why should they be punished when they already pay the most taxes? Again, if you don’t want them to have that level of wealth, stop giving them your money.

Exactly, and evidence of this is car companies would rather park unsold cars in giant graveyards to rot than lower prices because it's worth it for them to maintain those extremely high profit margins.

What are they doing where they're only making 40K a year, and living in a one bedroom apartment?

And let me get this straight, someone comes up with an idea, and someone with wealth takes the risk, and gives them capital for 40% ownership, and you have a problem with that?

In the 90s when someone had a 3 series (used or new) everyone thought that guy was rich to spend that kind of money on a car. It used to be excessive to need a car like that. Today college students are buying them while on student loans.

The biggest difference is housing prices. I was able to buy my first house for 1.25X my gross salary. Graduates today are going to pay 3X their salary and up.

I've lived through it. I had it easier coming out of school than the kids today. I also had it better than the kids from the 90's so....maybe I just got lucky.

The 1% really need to pay their "fair share". A bunch of d@mn moochers.

** In 2016, the top 50 percent of all taxpayers paid 97 percent of all individual income taxes, while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 3 percent.

** The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (37.3 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (30.5 percent).

** The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a 26.9 percent individual income tax rate, which is more than seven times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (3.7 percent).

I can't wait until the 1% have 99% of the wealth and the 99% have 1%.

The Republican posters on here will still be fighting for a flat tax and things to keep on the way they are.

Why arent you saving your 1 dollar daily surplus? You can invest it and earn 2% interest if you gen xyz only weren't so obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses! You can easily live off of 10 dollars a day if you're not an idiot.

(Queue printing presses in the background clanging as the banks print off another trillion and inflation eats away their savings.)

Maybe if you weren't so lazy and dumb you wouldn't have lost your money in the market! (as it comes crashing down again for the 20th time in modern history)

Just pay this trillion dollar bail out bill and give us more tax cuts or it will happen again.

Seriously, this time the wealth is about to trickle down.

There is a growing presence among Republicans and conservatives generally who are recognising the problem of growing wealth inequality as a problem. The bootlickers are declining in numbers.

There's only so long people are going to sit and listen to:

> You're just jealous
> You should be grateful to your job creators
> They deserve all their money
> The wealth will trickle down

In 2002? I think the mortgage rate was 4.25% fixed for 5 years. Payments were in the $600's per month.

Not that this really applies to AB, as I think housing is insanely affordable right now.

Your comment contributes nothing to the discussion and does not delegitimize the wealth gap in the US. Despite what you think, it's not a competition about who has it the worst.

No I think a majority of people don't believe in taxing more. Something's gotta give, there's more and more angry people as time goes on and it's not a baby boomer vs. millennial thing.

A majority of the problems would be solved if kids were taught about predatory colleges and finances.

Right so you're one of those people who just doesn't think very hard about the world or the problems that may be emerging in it, and prefers to stay incognisant of it.

That's fine for you, but the reality is there are very serious problems with the way wealth and power is becoming distributed in society, and this is affecting a lot of regular people. And finding solutions to it will be very important going forward.

I know when ever I argue for the middle class instead of the 0.1% that people think im a poor beggar but I am in the top 10% of income earners in Canada and I was raised by a family that made less than 40k/year.

It's not impossible to get ahead in our society, it's just pretty clear that the top 0.1% have an undue amount of influence over everything in society, and are steadily eroding away wealth from the middle class and doing everything in their power to phuck them over.

The worst thing are the economic right wing Reagenomics lovers that earn less than 80k a year. Its like, hey YOU ARE POOR, NONE OF THESE POLICIES HELP YOU! Why are you rooting against yourself and fellow man? Pathetic.

But they just gobble up the seeds of division the elite love to sow. Idiots.

Eh the disparity is big but it's significantly inflated here. A huge portion of the top %er's wealth is tied up in stocks n chit for companies they founded / own / are executives of. If they ever tried to realize that $35.4trillion, values would crash all over the place and absolutely massive swaths of money would be wiped out.

Even using holdings to compare net worth among ultra-high earners is pretty silly. Brb Microsoft's stock is up 1.3%, Bill Gates is the wealthiest person in the world. No wait, Amazon just rallied, now Jeff Bezos is #1. Brb brb it's all imaginary money until it's realized
