It's like some of you think if a death or infection isn't an -official- number being tracked and confirmed by a test, it doesn't count lmao. (When we know already that there hasn't been a fraction of the amount testing being done that should have been.)

reduce unneeded travel and interaction in large groups- Most humans are way too dumb to do that and insist on continuing to live their lives like normal. Most are convinced it's just the flu bro.
quarantine yourself if sick or you think you're exposed and ride it out- That's great and all, but by the time you're symptomatic, you've already infected unknown amounts of people. Riding it out (as already discussed on previous page) is ok...until it isn't. The virus can go from mild cold symptoms to ICU and on a ventilator in 24 hours.

I'm just the panic dude in the group though brahs. Do your thing and keep convincing yourselves that what's happening everywhere else in the world isn't going to happen here because somehow we're more special than the other countries that have it.

This may not be "just the flu"--but it's not freaking Ebola either.
If we had an ebola map like we have for this, no exaggeration and no sht, we'd have perimeters all over the place that were "pass them and you get shot", and no school in the country would be in session

Instead we are talking about maybe closing some schools and not traveling or having big gatherings. Yeah no sht it's not ebola

Yet here we are. Im just saying that there are two sides, and magically one of them isn't getting widely reported. Given theres conflicting reports from just about every credible source out there, im not sweating it...right now. At all.

Uhh....because it's a strand of flu that no one on the planet has ever been exposed to which means you will essentially guaranteed contract it if you come into contact with it.
weird, because I read it was something like 10-15% of exposed persons contract it. Apparently it's been updated to 99.9%.

With how fast Italy went from a few cases to full quarantine it does seem to suggest it spreads fast, but I did see a point someone made: since it's new we might have no natural immunity to it, our immune systems have no exposure so it spreads fast. As time goes on you become more and more immune to it (not fully) and are less likely to have a serious case.

Catch it once, your body can better defend against it the next time and so on, so after awhile it will be more like 'just the flu' than what it is now.

No science to it, but doessoundlike it makes sense.

Post a link then please, because I searched and searched and found absolutely no one with actual credentials willing to estimate the contraction % other than to say just about guaranteed if in direct contact.

Influenza has been around for a long ass time and people still get it allll the time. Only a fuking idiot would believe we aren't HIGHLY susceptible to a strain never before seen.

Reporting on the infection rate in the US has to be a guess at this point, and there have to be many unreported cases because nobody can get the stupid tests to be able to give them except in the most extreme cases and even then maybe not unless you're a politician

Plus unless you feel sick enough to want to be hospitalized (and quarantined), you probably don't want to be tested.

Also incubation period

Like people who rush to buy toilet paper instead of food and water when facing mass viral outbreak?

Everything other than hand sanitizer continues to be in stock at the grocery stores here. Even Costco had everything but hand sanitizer yesterday. Are they out of TP out there in CA?

Not out, but been hammered hard; food stocks still more than fine, canned goods looking a bit more thin than usual but nothing out of stock.

Kota Outfitters had a sale a week and a half ago for a pair of Hesco Level IV Ceramic shooters cut SAPI plates for $200 (half price) so I jumped on it.

More of a swimmers cut than a shooters cut, but for $200 for level IV plates hard to go wrong

The level IV plates, yeah, it's a lot of protection for the money, hesco and RMA both have something like that. The cost is single vs multi curve andheavy. What are those like pushing 8 lbs per plate?

^Nice, have III+ AR500 steel, ceramic is nice but I like that steel can take more hits.

Preferably I'd like to not get shot at all though.

I'm like 97.5% moved out of my house now. Everything cleaned, packed, etc. Was planning on getting pictures taken tomorrow... but then over the weekend the water main line into my house broke and leaked.

Was just a small leak though, only destroyed about 1 wall of a bedroom and part of the other side of the wall which is the garage. Plumber just now got the pipe fixed and the restoration crew (or whatever they're called) is coming in an hour to tear out all the damaged dry wall and dry out everything and what not.

Freakin sucks this happens the week I was wanting to list my house lmao, but good thing is that this should actually be all squared away by the end of the week. That, and I will be able to pocket some cash because I can redo the dry wall and paint myself.

Just hoping china aids doesn't tank the housing market and kill the value of my house before I get it sold.

To reinforce what I already said in my last reply to this, here is exactly what I said but with a fancy chart. The idea behind closing this and that and putting off mass crowds/gatherings, travel, etc, is to avoid infecting everybody all at once and overwhelming our ability to care for people...which won't all be the old and sickly population

The little ant hill down there is the goal at this point as opposed to the mountain

Again, we should be in mitigation mode because if a bunch of people get infected at once, our hospital system will get overwhelmed. I've been in and around hospitals for the good part of last decade, either as a student or a doctor. Believe me when I say adminstrators love to cut costs whichever way possible to boost profits, not limited to employing a bare minimum of healthcare workers. It's a strained system as is.

If we can flatten the curve, hopefully we can turn this into a slow flood instead of a tsunami. While most of us young folks will likely be OK by the end of this all, we need to cast aside our idea of American exceptionalism.

What has happened in Italy can happen to us.

Yeah not too bad and this is actually the only problem I've had with this house at all in the 4.5 years I've lived here. House was built in 2010.

Despite china aids, my realtor said the housing market in my area is actually TST for sellers and he thinks it will sell quick. Have had a sign up in front of house and many people already have called about it, but at this point won't list on market until prob mid/late next week.

I need my house money so I can prep better for these china zombies!

quarantine yourself if sick or you think you're exposed and ride it out- That's great and all, but by the time you're symptomatic, you've already infected unknown amounts of people.

Then tell me what you want to do about it now to avoid your worst-case scenario? And since you can't go back in time, don't bother with "don't let it get here in the first place" because that's (A) not possible now and (B) probably wasn't possible then. China didn't stop it from getting out and they are bit more grey in the areas of civil liberty. They also have awful pollution, lots of older people, and probably not the greatest lung health. They are also densely packed.

It certainly "could" get bad here. Maybe it will--possibly very bad. But the best approach, IMHO, is to be rational about it, follow the best practices and be vigilant. There is plenty of data to suggest that the majority of people who are infected have mild or even no symptoms and recover. The US has outstanding healthcare facilities. We've already had multiple run-of-the-mill flu seasons that have killed 50 - 60,000 people even in the last decade. So you have to get above that figure to get outside of what's already not out of the ordinary. That's no small number, but people forget it runs that high.

Since you're in the apocalyse is nigh camp . . . lay out the plan you want the govt to enact from today on to stop this cold (no pun intended) and avod what you are saying is inevitable disaster.

China aids I think isn't a "game over man game over!" but it's not "just a flu" either. I'm not concerned for my own health, just concerned for parents aunts uncles (all boomers 60+).

My biggest take aways, so far, from china aids is:

1) We're gonna be screwed when a legit "big one" comes through.
2) There is so much misinformation, or just unreliable info out there. Between mass media, despot govs, gov just being incompetent in general, social media, etc it's all noise.
3) This is a good training/learning run for a big one.

Waiting until the government forces you to not travel or go to schools or otherwise attend large crowded events is almost always going to be too late. The more coverage anything that isn't a -big deal- gets the less likely people are going to be to withdraw proactively in time when they really need to

The little ant hill down there is the goal at this point as opposed to the mountain
It's almost like that was one of the options I noted. And the large event closings on their own and restricted travel are already happening.

(1) Invent a time machine and go back to January and stop all travel into the US from any source and destination (you can't just exclude from China). This includes military complete embargo of the northern and southern borders and ports.

(2) Martial Law and lock down the populace for 3 weeks.

(3) Wash your hands a lot, reduce unneeded travel and interaction in large groups, quarantine yourself if sick or you think you're exposed and ride it out.

They are and aren't. My wife's company still hasn't canceled air travel for literally this week, and I know others in the same boat (err, plane?). And events with lots of people are still happening everywhere. Schools are all still in, extracurricular events that are totally not needed and don't count towards education days etc are all still happening. There sure seems to be a lot to of low hanging fruit that is just being left to hang.

I'll be back to argue the pros and cons later, right now I have to go to a gathering with hundreds of people in a small area most of which are kids who cannot ever e expected to stop touching everything while putting their hands in their mouths every other minute, many of which will be escorted by grandparents, on a day a neighboring county is closed because a teacher who was in 3 schools went down during the school day and they had to call 911 for an ambulance to hospitalize them

Totally, reasonably precautions are being taken...yeah.

Got my super duty 11.5" upper from Geissele last week. I really like the gray, hnnnggg, but just wish I can get a lower in gray soon.

Haven't shot it yet, just put the optic and light on there for a cool pic. Not sure 100% what I'll do for an optic, but probably buy a new aimpoint t2 and a flip to side magnifier.

I don't really like the kag grip, first time I've used one.

Build (not including optic or light):

Geissele Super Duty complete upper 11.5"
Geissele Super Duty stripped lower
Super 42 buffer spring and H3 buffer
Super Duty lower parts kit
Geissele SSA trigger
Geissele buffer tube with castle nut and end plate
SBA3 Brace
BCM Mod 3 Grip
BCM Kag hand stop thingy

Total cost of build in pic, excluding optic and light:
$1320

Good cost for what I get, but man it would be easier if Geissele just offered 11.5" pistol builds (complete lower and what not) at the same price point as their 16" super duty rifle. Imagine getting my same build above for $1050 with that 35% coupon!
