I know. And she's our sickest kid, always running fevers. So not like something out of the norm for her. But knowing that in reality we're probably at at least 5-7k infected it sure makes you think differently about a fever.

Hey guys, sorry to interrupt the thread with firearms talk. Just wanted to pick everyone's brains.

Thinking about getting a Canik TP9 Elite. Have a buddy who's an armorer/weapons trainer down in NC and he swears by this thing. Shot it once and thoroughly enjoyed it, just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it?

Not that exact model but I picked up a Canik TPSA9 without ever having shot one cause I got a screaming deal on it. I still can't believe how good it is for the price. Some people end up having to order softer recoil springs (Century will send you one for free) to shoot 115 gr but I've never had an issue.

tl/dr, I doubt IFAK/trauma kit type stuff will have any availability issues

Rogan had an infectious disease expert on yesterday. Some interesting stuff. They have bits and pieces posted . . . the whole episode is long but I listened to a bunch last night. He's thinking it "could" be upwards of 480,000 dead by the time it's all said and done in several months. But basically says all the same things about wash hands (although he says in the end it's skewed greatly towards being passed via breathing it in), avoid large groups/gatherings, try to keep yourself healthy with sleep, hydration, etc.

Says without a vaccine it basically needs to burn itself out--gets to a point where large numbers are infected and get better and then there's nobody left to infect in large numbers anymore. Coronaviruses also not really "seasonal" in terms of hot doesn't stop it.

^ Those seem like some bold claims. But those numbers are in line with how many people apparently die to seasonal flu worldwide every year as well, so I guess it makes sense. But I also thought we were still in the "we don't know enough about it" phase to determine whether it was seasonal or not.

Notice they're shooting it with a slow slug. I'd want to see it with a fast moving rifle cartridge, you know, what you buy a plate to protect yourself from.

Curious, but why isn't there spalling from ceramic plates? What do the bullets do when they hit ceramic?

Caniks are solid. I read somewhere the guide rods need to be replaced after a few k rounds but I have no personal experience with them. The company is ISO certified too.

Some solid responses. Went over and bought it at lunch(after 7 days, sigh).

Seeing that they're a division of Century Arms is the only negative I can find honestly. Worth the price, seeing as I've got HKs and Sigs that are SIGNIFICANTLY more.

TLDR: Ceramic can be said to catch the bullet and absorb the impact where steel is simply hard and breaks the projectile(s) up against its surface. Like, you know how you aren't supposed to shoot steel targets from too close because of getting struck by fragments? Steel armour is like wearing the target.

I've seen a lot of counter arguments that the base coat buildup of pickup truck spray on bedliner and the like mitigates or eliminates the spalling risk, but TLDR because of who it is making those claims and the way they set up the tests etc etc, there is clear bias IMO, and...get ceramic

I want to eventually get some AT Armor "S.T.O.P." plates, they're ceramic only about 1/2 inch thick and 5lbs per plate.

Those will be for my real LARP boog gear.

Then get some AR500 plates that I'll use for LARP training so that I don't have to worry about cracking them or anything while training with them.

I think the main downside to ceramic, other than cost, is that they expire after like 10 years IIRC... but I mean I'll probably die within first few weeks of boog so oh well lol

There is a reason the mil uses ceramic SAPI plates.

Side note, I especially liked 2 years ago when we were issued plates for a Platoon live fire range that involved moving and shooting, clearing a village, etc that said in big red letters "NOT FOR LIVE FIRE - TRAINING PLATES ONLY".

There's safe, and then there's "Army Safe"...

Pretty sure they last longer than that in reality. Same with kevlar type stoft vests especially if they weren't worn and exposed to sweat that whole time
