Why is it time to panic in Australia? There are key differences between Australia and Italy.


Namely, Australia is an isolated island and if you close the borders early enough you shut it off at the source. Australia has a very sparse population, most of the country is uninhabited bush and desert.



I'm looking at the common sense and facts and they suggest the death rate is coming down because of more widespread testing, unreported asymptomatic cases and the populace coming to realize the media is creating unnecessary hysteria. There is nothing I can see about the actual virulence of the pathogen itself which is necessitating all of this, other than the risk to the elderly.

I actually do believe the borders are shut right now, so remaining cases will be community transmission or contact with an existing case.

Italy, however, you could theoreticallywalk intofrom anywhere in Europe. Plus, the population is aging, they are heavy smokers and they are far, far more concentrated. You, in your case, could probably drive about 100km inland and that alone would slash your risk by orders of magnitude.

I believe any contagious disease could do this if it was able to overload the system with that many cases all at once. I have no reason to believe it is some unique aspect of the virus itself, apart from the novel challenge it poses to the immune system.

Italy and Spain are full with old people, just check who's dying there. And they're not very well organized at all, I've been to those countries many times to know.

This. Mankind has an incredible track record when it comes to solving real problems. There will be pain and suffering but we will emerge from it, and possibly emerge from it with a better long term forecast for the world than we had when we went into it. As sad as it is to say, the world probably needed something like this....and actually lots of people were saying they wanted it, but no one is willing to go through it. This is our generation’s make or break moment. Time to quit being pussies and do whatever it takes to help the world get through it. It’s not time to declare the apocalypse, but everyone needs to take this sh!t very seriously.

What you can see from the very current statistics above is that in Italy not more people die in this flu season than usual.

The virus was in the right place at the right time to spread,that doesn't affect it's actual severity in any way.Media are just retards,the virus can only threaten old geezers with pre-existing health conditions and one foot already in the grave because it's literally just a glorified flu.You wouldn't be seeing people giving social media updates from quarantine if they had fukin ebola.

Basically entire countries shut down to "protect" those vulnerable groups and all the while they seem to be the ones that give the least amount of ****s in the first place.Majority of people here if you go outside are 60+ years old and everyone else is locked inside.****ing clown show.

If it is a media created panic fuelled by conspiring virologists after money- why did it start in China who completely control their media and who promptly sacked & arrested or demoted most of the medical staff in the province of origin?

If you're saying western virologists capitalised to fuel a panic- why did China react so hard, so early to the point of literally emergency building new hospitals at ground zero to try and handle the caseload/danger? What was THEIR motivation?
