There was no where near the number of swine flu patients in the same time scale as Covid 19.

The two aren’t even comparable. Hence nobody who knows what they’re taking about is comparing them.

K? Can we put this to bed?
What? Those numbers are from one winter. This thing isn’t even close.

Do you also understand that “flattening the curve” means that the end goal is still to infect everyone, just not all in big bunches? So you’d better be ready for big fat uncle Bob to die.

From my understanding there's a 2 - 8 weeks delay between symptom onset and death.

So deaths recorded today are a result of cases admitted 14+ days ago, if you have a basic understanding of exponential growth you can easily see how this could spiral out of control & result in thousands of deaths per day if the government doesn't get a handle on the amount of people needing medical treatment for the virus at any given time.

And this is still the early stages of the pandemic & numbers are already growing quite fast - it's going to get much worse brahs. Be safe.

Are you thinking that millions will die from this thing?
2009 H1N1 never ravaged the earth. It was quite benign, relatively speaking. The nations of this world have implemented quarantine measures not seen in a century, and it’s still killing at a faster rate than H1N1.

I encourage you to look at the death toll over time for both viruses, starting from first patient death.

If your post is suggesting that its all over blown you're unequivocally wrong.

Have you considered the rate is so low because we are able to effectively treat those with the worst symptoms, the other option is to let it run through everyone and potentially leave thousands needing severe levels of care all at once. That is when you will see many more people die.

No, I specifically cited one example where everyone was tested and that is the cruise ship Diamond Princess. The fatality rate was 1.4%.the article that you quoted yourself estimates it at 2%.

So I repeat once more:What is %1.4 of 60 million? How does it compare to the number of H1N1 deaths in the US?
Have you ever been on a cruise? specifically a princess cruise? I have, its filled with old people. really old people. a 1.4% death rate on a boat filled with 70-90 year olds only proves the death rate will be much much lower in the general population.

It will be nowhere as bad as Italy or Spain. I know Americans like to think of themselves as generally unhealthy, but those countries are just as bad. They also have a ton of old people. Europeans retire in northern Italy and Spain. It’s like retiring in Kansas except with better weather and scenery and the same podunks. The only country with more older people is Japan. And hypertension runs rampant in Europe for some reason.

I hope the tards ITT are right and I’m wrong. But I’m afraid it’ll get far worse before it gets better.
You won't see a virus generally mutate to a deadlier version, exception being the spanish flu. A virus will mutate to a milder form due to that being the best chance for it to continue. A virus that kills fast will die fast. From my understanding the spanish flu didn't need to mutate to a milder form as during the war it was easily spread. If this one has mutations that kill faster it will burn out fairly quick.

Yeah this is political, apart from the fact I vote conservative.

I rely on the economy not collapsing, just like everyone else you mong.

Hence I’d rather see this cleared up more quickly.

Rather than denying it, which will ensure it continues to spread and damage the markets further.

Understand, because it's clear you're not,the expectation is that everybody will get it. EVERYBODY. Yes, even you.

Flattening the curve isn't about avoiding the disease.

I take it you only believe in centauris parabis, because "fatality rate growth" of 30% is not sustainable.

Disco Stu would be so proud of you.

italy's death rate is so high because so many men in their 30s and 40s still live with their parents, they catch it walking around, bring it home to elderly parents and they die

SK, Singapore, HK, Taiwan all have post SARS and post MERS pandemic protocols in place. They also use things like cell phone tracking and mega CC surveillance.

China is an autocratic, unitary gov't that does whatever it feels like. It's run by six old guys.

The fine for being outside in Taiwan right now is $30K.

Italy, the country that is getting DECIMATED has had 0.01% of their population die from this. It could kill another 10x as many people (0.1%) and the country would not have even noticed if this wasn't making the news cycle. Most people seem to agree that the virus had already been spreading back in January in other countries, just testing wasn't being done. Shocker no one cared then until the scary headlines all came out.
