They are fast, and I've seen a lot of front shoulders of deer ruined because the bullet shatters. Sure, it will put deer down. Great starting deer rifle. I just prefer something slightly bigger is all. Just stick to your most popular calibers so you can shoot cheap. I just use remington core lokts and have never had a misfire. Accurate, cheap and they expand perfect.

It was fun as hell. Get a good group of guys to do drives. I got mine with one other guy who pushed it to me. Usually we have 10-15. Doing thickets. Just get a bigger gun if you do them.
Here is one seasons haul at camp with 4 of us.

Different standing position and angles? In that pic my finger was resting above trigger.

Anyways: I also knew gun was unloaded and always check it. And also had a safety trigger also
