Just caught an interview on my local Fox affiliate with Benjamin Neuman, "one of the world's pre-eminent coronavirus researchers".
Not only has he grown more SARS virus in the lab than anyone alive, his expertise earned him a seat on the international committee that named SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We need to be prepared, SARS is not going to be a one-time thing," Neuman tells Sharp. "We can get rid of this virus, but it's going to be whack-a-mole from here on out and so we need a better strategy. We need a little bit of forward planning. I think that's where the A&M System and scientists come in. That's what we do."
In the interview Neuman said that COVID-19 is"100 times deadlier than the flu"and that"herd immunity will not work with this virus because we are finding that even in people that have severe illness from the virus their antibodies drop off within a few months".

He supported not reopening schools. Said that women and children are less effected by the virus, but that though children would be okay they are a big vector for the spread of disease.

The doctor says that they have just found that the virus effects men and older people more because cells have to have 2 different proteins to be infected.

Seasonal flu has a mortality rate of 0.1 to 0.2.

So if COVID has a mortality rate of 1.0 to 2.0 that would be 100X higher.

If LA County says that they estimate that they have as many as 425,000 infected in their community but don't have enough testing to verify, the mortality rate plummets with that model nationwide. I have run the roller coaster of all the emotions during this pandemic, but I am settling on the feeling that this whole thing has been greatly overblown and we, as a nation, are being controlled and duped for whatever reasons.

I never wear a tinfoil hat and am logical with common sense, but this all reeks a bit to me at this point.

I don't think many people are saying that this is 100x deadlier than the flu. I'm also not buying this because if this was the case people would be dropping dead left and right. Models are also only projecting about 60K COVID-19 deaths so that doesn't really add up, also considering that many medical experts are saying that many more are infected and have been effected then what is being reported.

Sweden might have higher death tolls/rates than some of it's other scandinavian counterparts but they also aren't dropping dead either which many were saying if they wouldn't close down large segments of the economy. Simply they are just exercising basic common sense measures. But I guess time will tell which strategy is superior. Sweden also has a significant elderly population so that needs to be taken into account.

Also many other experts are saying herd immunity is achievable so this would run contrary to what this person is saying.

Even if it wasn't. What's the alternative? Shutting down economies for an entire 12-18 months or until a vaccine appears? A vaccine may also not appear worst case scenario and many people might not be even able to have it administered to them because of side effects. The repercussions of that will be worse. Will a vaccine even be that effective or stop the virus? Flu still kills many thousands each year despite there being a vaccine.

I posted something a few days ago. Thread wasn't deleted. Thread wasn't merged. My text was simply deleted and replaced with some note to the effect that I need to post on that thread. Since I no longer had a record of what I'd written and I'd need to rewrite the whole thing, I just threw up my hands and logged off. It's a pretty chitty way to moderate. I ran a vbulletin forum for about 15 years and I can't recall ever having done anything as passive aggressive as that.

I get that there has been a lot of conflicting information and that the quality of data seems to be pretty awful. I don't see how we can just stay on lock down forever either.

These are death statistic rates from the CDC for pneumonia, Flu and Covid comparing the last three years. The point-outs, the 2018 epidemic was at a 11% peak without ANY mitigation strategies, except the vaccine of course, we're at 19% and climbing WITH full mitigation, it's fairly obvious what outcomes can be drawn from this.
