The P80 isn't going as smoothly as I had hoped. Gonna have to make some slight modifications to the rear rails and the front locking block to make them fit properly. All I'm waiting on now is the slide

Mid-January was the first case of the Chinese virus in America. I was being generous at giving it a 25k/month, but lmao at thinking we will sustain a 50k/month figure. Will absolutely not happen, not even close.

I specifically said a "minor inconvenience" OR "spending ungoldy amounts of money". Why are you not properly quoting me?

We could absolutely save hundreds of thousands of lives if we put that burden on society. We don't. We're okay with the current numbers of deaths from all the various causes. Not sure why you support the government restricting basic freedoms in the name of muh safety, when we have ~3 million deaths per year that aren't being reduced when they could be.

what part of florida? also for generator/freezer. all depends on how much you want to spend, I just have a deep freeze from costco works great, even in the garage. just make sure you get a generator that you can hook into the house power. I've seen alot of ones that just give you 3-4 plugs.

No basement and no shelter so I’m just watching from my bedroom. Walked out to the pasture and it’s eerie. Can see it coming my way and I hear sirens going off every where.

What is the generator for? Basically, would you need 240 volt for say a well pump or sump pump? Without knowing where you'll be living, you probably can't know that. FL is super flat (flattest state in nation high to low) and has a really high water table, I'm imagining you won't have a basement and won't have a well or sump pump but IDK.

The Rolex/Camry combined is a Honda EU2200i. Can't run a ton though, need to manage loads especially reactive loads/compressors kicking on. Won't run portable or RV A/C, would probably run a single modest window A/C by itself. But it'll run any freezer, and your fridge, and some LED's, and a laptop, wifi, charge your devices, beautifully, quietly, and with phenomenal reliability and fuel efficiency

If you want a big gen that will run 'everything' including portable/RV A/C's, well and sump pumps, coffee makers, toasters, etc, and probably all at once, just get a big traditional Champion from a local TSC or farm/fleet/home improvement type store. BIG is like 7k watt rage but they are big, heavy, and guzzle fuel. OR get a Generac GP5500 if you want 240v

Dual fuel is something to consider. Propane doesn't make quite as much power as gasoline but it's easier to store, might share with your grill or other things, and burns a lot cleaner for the engine internals. The little Honda suitcase inverters can be converted to propane but it's a few hundred bucks and not factory available. A lot of the Champions can be had in a dual fuel setup.

You could also get something like a WEN 56380i. Mid size inverter, will run basically 'everything' you want that's 125v (only one portable or RV A/C, and a little bit else alongside maybe). US company with good service and history, also made in China.

Champion Digital Hybrid 3500/4000 is a really good mix of the two. Only 125v but pretty good output and has an inverter. Open frame so still pretty loud, like a normal gen, but engine can throttle down for light loads so that can help a lot of the time

Beware that other than the premium Honda and Yamaha generators, mostly they will be made in China. The EU2200i IIRC is made in Taiwan.

Get an inverter type unless you need 240v. The enclosed inverters are all substantially quieter than standard gens. Think standard gen is a 5.56, and inverter type enclosed frame gens are a 16" 300 blackout suppressed shooting supers...unless you have a very light load, then they are like a suppressed 300 blackout shooting subs. They also throttle engine speed to meet demand so less power you need, quieter they are, less fuel they burn. Super clean pure sine wave low THD output. They are basically magic in a box. The EU2200i running just a freezer would be library-quiet

Regarding COVID there are really only a few realistic possibilities given that we can't estimate the CFR and have no idea how prevalent it is in the US currently...

A) COVID is low prevalence, CFR is found to be high. We reopen, doomers were correct.
B) COVID is high prevalence already, CFR is found to be low. We reopen, flubros were right all along.
C) Keep things locked up. Fatalities remain low, CFR remains unknown. Most conservative outcome, and would likely obliterate our economy.

Nobody knows the real prevalence and CFR. People are acting like they know because they are only seeking information that confirms their point of view (confirmation bias). Nobody really knows.

We have a pretty good idea on the lower bound of CFR. The state of NY already has, officially, enough covid deaths that if literally 100% of the state was infected, the CFR would still be higher than seasonal flu.

There was an antibody study done just recently in NY/NYC, using an FDA emergency approved antibody test (the only 'study' that has used an approved test to date), it shows ~21% infection rate, which would put IFR at 0.6%-ish, which is about 6 times higher than seasonal flu but about 1/6 the initial best guess of 3.4% we had as it came out of china. Other evidence from other countries is pointing to somewhere in that 0.6%-ish range (seasonal flue is best estimated at 0.1 or below).

R0 of course was given as we thought 2.5 initially but the last CDC estimate was 5.7, suffice it to say it's pretty surely somewhere higher than 2.5 (which is still higher than the flu).

What remains to be seen is how summer weather effects it and exactly what the progress is on the varying strains (very little talk about that but multiple strains have already been identified), and what opening up will do to the numbers (have to wait 1-2 weeks to start to see that, avg 5 days from exposure to symptoms, then symptoms have to get worse for people to seek medical, get test, get result, result gets reported)

We also have good data indicating official deaths are currently under counted. If you take avg deaths over this timespan from prior years, add official covid deaths on top of that, the result is a number lower than current actual deaths this year...across multiple other countries and in the state of NY.

All we can do is slowly and carefully open up with new-normal measures in place and see what happens...and the next major thing will be what about going back to school in the fall, and what about the onset of the next virus season int he fall/winter

I don't know about well/sump. Let's assume I don't need to run that.

I'd like to be able to run my house off of the generator. Kitchen appliances, ac, 3000 sq ft house.

-Swamp Boat

Recommendations for the Generator/Freezer?
solid return for a few years. how long did you have it on the market?
I'll be listing my place in probably two weeks, and the realtor has mentioned virtual tours before in person as opposed to starting off with an open house and then scheduling individual walk throughs. Pictures turned out really well for my house, so I think it'll work out fine.

I'd like to be able to run my house off of the generator. Kitchen appliances, ac, 3000 sq ft house.

Nothing made in China. **** the CCP.
What it usually comes down to, is realizing that "run the house" isn'treallyworth doing. The generator will be big, heavy, cumbersome, loud, anda fuel guzzler even at light loads.

Things that do NOT require a whole lot of wattage to run, that you can probably be quite happy with (and nothing else) on the gen
Fridge
Freezer
WiFi
Laptop
Electronic charging
LED lighting
A TV

Not made in China...man IDK. The EU2200i is made in Thailand.

I had a Generac GP5500 and it's a really good choice for the big-un, but IIRC it was made in China. I've seen supposedly Generac makes some engines in Wisconsin but I'm not sure what all and their backup gens don't seem to be made here. It's all ****ing made in China

I'd buy two generators

A small, quiet, highly portable, fuel efficient, closed frame inverter, and a larger open frame 240v 5-7k watt, possibly dual fuel. Because two is one, and because they have significantly different strengths and weaknesses.

Had some re-org'ing and layoffs yesterday . . . a couple hundred based on the grapevine. Not me, fortunately. But things were pretty crazy and stretched thin as it was. Should be an interesting next few weeks & months around here. Tally ho!

Given unemployment right now guarantees your full paycheck plus $600 extra per week for the next 4 months it is kind of a better deal.

I’m fine. The stupid weather people showed it heading directly towards me. They even mentioned my street on the news. The wife was about to stroke out. We had a thunderstorm for like 10 mins that’s it. Was nothing.
