Brb I would like to see him do the 1 arm smith machine bench challenge with Matt London, or the stiff legged farmer's walk with savagpyschojoe.

Semi Radradra plays the full 80mins on offence and defence and would be better recognised globally than most NFL players.

The USA is not the centre of the world.

The average D3 college football game puts more athletic talent on the field than the world's best rugby teams.

Apparently the US is the center of the world if a phucking punter is rustling the jimmies of Pro Rugby players. He's a punter.. why even respond to him.

NFL has athletic freaks but D3 guys suck. I've known a few of them. Pretty sure the average guy could play D3 if he put in the work.

Rugby is ok, has good athletes, not NFL freaks but good. The real joke is hockey or crossfit, no athleticism at all LOL.

The irony is in non USA countries, the freak athletes are playing soccer.

That argument, athleticism, is only ever presented as a 'US-centric' athleticism.

What can he run a 40 in, how high can he jump, how explosive is he/she.

Its a false paradigm.

Its like a distance runner saying a D3 player isn't athletic because he can't run a sub-3-hour marathon (pedestrian marathon time).

Rugby players don't run off between offense and defense, there are few real breaks in the game and they play two 40 min halves.

A few AFL/Rugby players have actually played in the NFL (Jarryd Hayne 49'ers running back).

Athletic freak isn't US-centric, although that's how its usually framed on this forum.

It's far more popular (viewership) globally, but much less concentrated, diverse or marketable.

For a range of reasons, the two forms of rugby (Union and League) has remained largely segmented and the countries they are played retain a loyal followership.

But for instance, they don't have a two-minute warning, t.v timeout or umpteenth breaks in the game (NFL), so marketing the game is at a significant disadvantage. You play the whole half without any breaks.

You're right that athletic isn't just explosive but:

1. Put an athlete in the traditional sense in a cage with an "elite" marathon runner and have them fight. You know good well the marathon runner is getting broken in half.

2. Elite is about filtering, the best of the best make it. In the USA, that's NFL and NBA. In most other countries, it's soccer. In ex soviet countries and china with state sponsored sports, it's w/e sports win gold medals.

What I'm trying to do is chit on people in joke sports who think they're athletes: hockey, crossfit, D3, etc.

This so much. The athletic discrepancy between football and rugby is embarrassingly large.

Ever notice the athletic islanders play football (quite a few in D1 college and the NFL) and the weak sauce beta ones have to fall back to rugby? Why do you think that is?

There you go again putting another us-centric athleticism (cage fighting) as "the model", yet a traditional cage fighter probably couldn't run a sub 3-hour marathon (although they would likely have a better chance than an NFL player.

Sure, but thinking as an NFL player, I could play soccer in some Euro third-tier league is a joke.

Because the Islanders you are talking about in the Northern Hemisphere are native to Hawai which is a state of the USA, meanwhile other "islanders in the pacific in the southern hemisphere, closer to Australian and New Zealand play ruby.

I don't think thats why it is, that is why it is.

"And Hayne, who said he would consider a NRL comeback with the Eels should he ever return to his home nation, revealed he struggled to sleep after games as a result of the heavy hits in his first season in American football.

"When I came off the full game I played in Detroit, my head was ringing," the 27-year-old said in an interview with Triple M's Grill Team in Sydney.

"That was obviously my first time being out there for that long. Literally, it was hard to sleep.

"Your head, your neck, your shoulders, people don't realise that just because you've got a helmet on, doesn't mean it helps your brain or anything like that.

"Your brain is still hitting your skull. The couple of head on hits that I had, they knock you about.

"The NRL is pretty endurance based, so you feel exhausted, but then the NFL, them hits, the impact that they have."

Hayne added: "I wouldn't say I'm worried, but there is definitely that kind of impact.

"As an athlete you kind of put your body in those situations because you're prepared to do whatever it takes.

"Everyone does that. It is scary. For me, after that full game I played, I was like, 'I don't know how a running back can do that for 10 years.' It's some heavy hits."
