The R's counter offer to the $600 is $200. Now they go into negotiations, so it likely falls somewhere in the middle.

Also, they've said they don't have the technology to do the 70% of each person's individual salary thing. Each state has their own unique unemployment system and it would take 4-5 months to develop something like that.

Wait wut? People were getting that per week? After taxes, that's the equivalent of around 90k USD per year?

Canadians who lost their jobs were getting 2k per month with the ability to defer mortgages/bills. Which seems reasonable since 75% of non miminimum wage jobs were still available.

The $600 from the Feds isn't taxed on the front-end. People will have to pay taxes on that next April.

With the state unemployment $, you have the choice on whether to tax on the front-end (withholding's) or not.

Ya'll are dumb as ****. In my city every single restaurant and bar closes by 8 except for 2 in the middle of downtown. It would not suprise me if 70% of those businesses are already underwater due to enormous rent and barely making barely any income at all. But sure lets reduce the purchasing power of the population even further and tell them to get jobs that don't exist. Lol

I live in an area hit hard with the unemployment and you wouldn't believe what I've been seeing at the grocery stores. Obviously not-well-off people loading their carts up with expensive meats and 24 packs.

Food prices are up nearly 5% in one year and I'm sure that chit like this has something to do with it.

Government needs to be careful with all this stimulus chit. We're going to end up like Venezuela.

Legitimately feel bad for the unemployed right now. They may have gotten a free ride for 6 months, but work will be sparse for them. Hope they saved a few pretty pennies. At least us gainfully employed brahs have secured jobs.

They did print money. 6 trillion. It went to businesses. How'd that go? How they doing now? Oh right they are still closed. While getting free money by the government that will be 100% forgiven. Businesses followed the rule and then laid off half their staff the day after they were allowed to by the letter of the law. You are such moron I'm not going to bother explaining this to you further.
Meanwhile the population will receive 2400 over a 5 month period that MUST be paid back through their own taxes.

Do you honestly think the government is going to allow all those masses to just try and wander back into a severely castrated jobs market with their money source cut off? In an election year? When rioting looting and pillaging has been established as the norm?

Exactly, this whole thing is a sham.

I live in Hawaii, a relatively small population state compared to the rest. We've had 900 business shut down over the past few months due to COVID, srs.

Many of those 900 business collected Fed funding, then closed down anyway, srs.

I didn't collect unemployment, even though I could've (I control my income as business owner). I regret not collecting my $600/week, because lets be real, it's every man for them self out there in the real world.
