I have numerous friends that are all new parents and they all provide different accounts. One of my friends took a paternity leave and just hung around playing video games all year taking care of his newborn. Another 2 friends who had a kid kept complaining about lack of sleep.
I guess it all depends on your original lifestyle. I know I'm going to have a hard time with the whole perfect fitness lifestyle - sleep, diet, training. It's a well-oiled machine. Throw that lack of sleep wrench in there and fuk it's gonna hurt.
All worth it, right?

Now I love it, my kids are 3 and 1(20 months). My daughter,3, was a difficult baby to get to sleep, which resulted in a huge lack of sleep for me. It sucked for several months, but now that she's past that it's a lot more fun. I get a kick out of just having conversations with her and she's crazy smart and funny as hell.
My son was a breeze the whole way. Put him in his crib and even if he didnt fall asleep he'd just lay quietly until he did. Now he's running everywhere, into trucks, and sports, and gets a kick out of horseplay and being rough.
It definitely gets better, and sometimes begins easy with some kids.

It's a lot of work. When my boy was a few months old i had this big padded playpen made.. basically a 3m×3m baby prison so he couldn't bump his head when he was learning to walk or get into anything if i fell asleep before him. Made life easier..

You're in the trenches dude. With newborns, a book that saved my life was called Happiest Baby on the Block. Foolproof method to get your kid to sleep fast and it works amazingly well. Newborns should be sleeping 18 hours a day for good development. Sleep train them early as well, like six months, it gives you your bed and your life back. We did cry it out and it worked great with both kids, did the second one at four months.
At ten days with my first I was having panic attacks and wanted to put the kid back. It takes a good few months to get into a good rhythm and then you can actually start enjoying watching them discover things, learn stuff and really take an active role in being a guide for them.
Plus, hot MILF friends. Get your wife to join a mothers' group and then they share the load and you can flirt with other hot moms.

Men were never supposed to deal with crying babies
Women are literally built to, physically and mentally
Women take care of physical needs, men take care of instilling values and morals and discipline
Both are equally valuable
This is how it was for thousands of years and this is how it should be
Some fat feminists came along in the 60s and fukked with the whole dynamic and now look what we have
****gy men who would take hormones which would allow them to breastfeed if they could
Men who can't deal with the whole retarded feminist idea of "50/50" so they leave and force unstable sloots to raise their sons alone
Women who bought into the idea of being a "boss bitch" so they value career over family but eventually realize that this will not fulfill their biological needs so they become bitter and hateful
Sad times we're living in

Yeah the no sleep can rough, luckily I did some time in the army and worked a graveyard shift weekdays through college so I'm pretty well adapted to no sleep. Went to bed last night at 12:30 and was up at 5:30 this morning for example. You'll survive and it gets way easier once they get a sleep schedule, mine is about to turn 1 soon and sleeps from 7:30 PM to 7:30 AM with one wake up at around 1 AM to get food, which the wife handles.
Edit to add - I see people thinking OPs lack of sleep is because his wife isn't doing the work. Probably not the case, mine did 95% of the nurturing side of things but it is amazingly hard to sleep with the ear piercing screeches of a newborn around, the only skill a newborn has is waking up its parents so they are surprisingly adept at it.

For after work naps I just let her sleep on my chest while I watched movies or something laying on the couch. I actually miss it

It's not the worst. Gotta figure out some magical tricks along the way though.
Letting them self-sooth in the crib is likely going to be essential; they'll figure it out.

Yep first 3 months or so are not fun. Make sure you take sleep training seriously you should be able to get them sleeping through the night consistently well before their first bday.
