Our gyms recently opened and you have to wear a mask, but during your set you can take your mask off. Worried about inhaling some droplets.

Also I think intense cardio would be a bad idea since you're breathing heavily for over 10+ minutes straight. Do you feel safe inside a gym?

This of it this way, you're at work and someone sneezes. Particles fly in the air and you inhale them, now you did all this preventative behavior for nothing
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

I dont even know why gyms are open right now.

Bunch of sweaty people leaving their bodily fluids all over the equipment

Are there any studies that show transmission risk in a gym?

I'm worried too. Haven't been yet.

And it's going to get worse in a few months as people give up on outdoor activities cus it's too cold and return to the gym.

Pretty much unavoidable unless you work out constantly in a respirator and sanitize your hands and all your possessions after leaving. Also can't pick your nose and eat the boogers, so that might be tough for you.

Anyways, I consider the gym an investment. I get healthier, and am more likely to survive beer flu. I also gain muscle, which offsets being sick for 2 weeks from beer flu. Essentially, you break even at 2 weeks. I was in a ~5 week profit after gyms reopened before Gayvin ****son shut it down.

TLDR: Don't be weak or stay home

I wouldnt do it if you plan on being around vulnerable people.

Id also look into late night weekend sessions...usually only like a handful of people there at most.

First time I went back to gym (cause they were up my ass about paying my bill for gym I didn't use? Cocksuckers) I was kinda sketched out.

I went in the next day, worked out, been back several times, haven't worried about the BS since.

Been to amusement park with family this summer, been on plane to Alaska fishing, been rolling bjj/going to Texas next month for bjj tournament. Work out regularly, go out to eat, refuse to wear a mask outside, won’t wear mask at shooting range cuz glasses.

Live your life. Stop living in fear (I’m fine wearing a mask in stores to make others feel better, I’m not a dik about this thing, I use hand sanitizer more and generally give people more space... but fuk living like a scared *******, take a few extra precautions but this whole fukking country has turned into y2k nut jobs)

Covid-19 is an airborne virus, it doesn't spread on surfaces or from touching

Thus the gym is about as safe as Walmart but politics

Been going to gym for like a month now, usually 60% packed and nobody really wearing masks/sanitizing more than the usual amount. I'm still Covid free but I'll let you know if that changes. Definitely won't be quitting the gym anytime soon though I missed it way too much.

A lot of heavy breathing at a gym, so I would say the risk is quite high. I would wear my mask 100% of the time. Best thing to do would be to limit occupancy and make sure everybody is far apart, however that's pretty hard to do.

It was hard to keep my mask on at the end of a heavy set.

EC Stack + restricted breathing from mask = not good

I train at 5AM with minimal crowd. Not hard at all to keep my distance. No one wears masks, including me. I'll happily wear one in stores and in other public indoor places, but I'm not wearing one lifting.

- Don't touch my face while lifting
- Don't touch my phone while lifting
- wash my hands when I'm done
- leave gym bag/gear in my trunk
- wash hands when I get back in the house

Only precautions I'm taking.

Tier 1 Intelligence PSA: Sanitize your phone/wallet/keys/earbud/water bottle too. Many people touch those at the gym. I’d also advice using a water bottle where you don’t have to touch the drinking part (such as opening a cap) as your hands and mouth touch the same spot.

Tier 0 Intelligence PSA: Don’t use the spray bottles your gym has, everyone touches those thinking they are being safe but don’t realize no one cleans them. You’ll just be increasing points of contact and more chances of contracting a bad flu.

it doesn't have to do with the gym specifically but i read somewhere that during intense sessions of exercise your body's immune function is decreased for a short period of time during and after exercise, making you more susceptible to getting an infection

Let me explain a few things.

You're probably going to get covid, regardless.

If you don't lift or work out, you're going to fare much worse.

Going to the gym may mean you get covid sooner, but the outcome WILL be better.

Fuk all the ****s that say otherwise.

I'd say its pretty risky and despite going out its the only place I got it from. A few weeks prior I was going out quite a bit. Think thats when clubs reopened for a bit so I went to the club twice, ate out with friends, everything. Despite that I didn't get the rona until roughly 2-3 weeks after I went back to the gym. Getting fat as hell but idk if its worth going back then having to spend 14 days alone in the house.
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; and if it is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

A study was done on this in Norway. Out of close to 2000 participants going into the gym at least once, over two week period, none of them have tested positive. The one that did test positive had been contact traced and it was revealed that they didn't contract it in the gym.

To play devils advocate though

- Norway has minimal cases to begin with and may not be applicable to areas with higher infection rates
- This was done only over a two week period

Overall myself personally I am not worried about contracting COVID in a gym. I work out by myself and I'm very rarely within 6 feet of another person.

I actually went for the first time today (Oakville gym). My gym has a 50 person capacity and I'd say there was maybe 25 people in the whole thing.

I just sanitized each machine before and after using it. Stayed away from people for the most part. Had a little sanitizer on my pocket for my hands. Ended up being a juicy workout because its normally packed to chit. Avoided talking to people which is nice lol.

I dunno. Its prob high on the list for transmission but I felt safe.

Yep. On the spectrum of not giving a **** to pannicel I am out at bars every weekend, traveling, house parties, mass gatherings, working out at gyms, in rec sports leagues, no mask unless needed, etc. Work out regularly and diet so if I get the flu it sets me back for 1-2 days oh no

Meanwhile my overblown cautious friends who wont leave their house (literally have a few friends like this) for anything, get groceries delivered, are absolutely WRECKING their immune system and have put on 15-20 pounds of fat. If/when they get it - not so lucky.
