Real conversations with people that you know well and click with are way better. But anonymous forum interaction is deeper and more comical than socially appropriate small talk.

Yesterday, someone argued the holographic principle was about light and tried to argue with me that light is the basic building block of the universe. When I explained why he was wrong he doubled down and then argued that I didn't know what I was talking about. This was in a thread where an edited video of Bill Gates was used to support the idea that he orchestrated the coronavirus pandemic and is a bioterrorist. There were people ITT calling for the murder of Bill Gates.

When you get to that level of ridiculousness, you start realizing it is hopeless to try to explain or convince anyone of anything and that crazy people have taken over the forum. There is zero reason to attempt to convince people of anything anymore.

For real. I can get into some straight-up incel chit that would get blank stares and "are you depressed?" reaccs IRL. I've got it on my mind, I want to talk about it, and Misc is about the only outlet I have for it.One thing I've seen is that this forum is really fun for non-srs things, but not so great for srs things. If you want to actually go in depth with politics or math or whatever, there's probably not more than a dozen people on here who will seriously take you up on that. Everyone just gets in their party trenches and regurgitates the same stock arguments people have heard 1 billion times. Misc just doesn't work at that level.

For example, I some a post linked earlier today where you had challenged BobbyD to solve out some logic proof about dildos. Trying to argue with BobbyD over math is like challenging a trout to bench more reps than you. They're simply not capable of competing. Misc isn't a place you go to talk about math, it's a place you go to talk about sloots and chit that would get you banned almost anywhere else. Leave that math chit for the grad student lounge.

Forums help me engage in multiple conversations. I'm pretty scatterbrain in real life and can start multiple threads of conversation. Forums just extend that more effectively for me.
