anyone ever damaged a nerve ?

strained a nerve in my wrist and lost partial function in my right arm / weakness

still have pretty much full mobility but lifting it up above my head is a bit of a struggle especially with any form of weight
it's been slowly getting better but I can't really do much in the gym right now besides tri's and legs, everything else has to be super light

anyone been through this ? how long did it take to heal ? i've been reading anywhere from several days to 12 weeks, I don't think mines too serious because even though it's weak i still have full mobility and very slow progression, so I think it's just a strain and not an actual tear.

will rep srs replies

Never that significant but a girl bit the base of my hand and it caused numbness that ran up into my thumb, took months to go away

I don't know anything about damaged nerves but I'd think you should prob try full rest for at least a week and see how it feels. You should go to the Dr to get it checked out, too. Hope it's better soon! <3

Nerve damage is definitely no joke man, can imagine being in your line of work as well where you do (I’m guessing) a lot of climbing

Detached my ulnar nerve in November 17. Surgery in August 18 after months of PT before I had an MRI that showed it was actually detached. Still gives me trouble. I'd say I'm good 90% of the time now but I still get numbness and pain in my elbow, especially when lifting

yeah lol fortunately it's not affected my ability to climb, but the loss of strength is a big one for moving around heavy ****.. which i'm fortunately not having to do for a bit

it's been a week now and today was the first time it felt noticeably improved, but not by much

i think mines the ulnar nerve, how did it feel when it was detached ? I feel like I only stretched mine

it happened when I was doing squats and the weight was pinning my wrist back because I didnt have it held properly

I have three lacerated nerves in my hand...I'm waiting to have surgery as I write this.

If you have nerve damage it won't heal on it's own...you'll have to have it surgically repaired.

If your symptoms are lessening, then it may not be nerve damage.

From the moment of injury up to right now the sensation in my hand has been the same, as far as pain/numbness in those areas.

I could just be getting my own hopes up on it getting better, i've not experienced any pain just tingling at night as if it's just being woken up from a dead sleep

There's no change at all 24/7 where I have nerve damage.

You can tap your finger on top of where the lacerations are and it feels like an electric shock shooting to the numb spot.

My injury is from a dog bite, though, not from straining it.

Just an FYI...you have 12 - 18 months to repair a nerve before they retract too far or die or whatever, so I wouldn't be worried about giving whatever it is time to heal, provided you have normal functioning of your tendons.

that's very comforting, I can't afford to be taking too much time off work now so surgery is a last resort, hoping this just passes after a few weeks

Pinky and outside of ring finger were completely numb 24/7. When I would bend my arm the wrong way, it would pop out of its groove and over the nub of the bone, causing an extremely sharp stab of pain, then the entire arm would go numb and would lose all strength. It didn't happen all the time, with the exception of one movement. Arm pointed outward at head level, then pulling towards me. Exactly the movement of pulling something down off of a head level or slightly higher shelf. Broke 3 or 4 jars at the grocery store before I realized it happened every time I did that movement. Any other movement, to include bicep curls, were hit or miss whether it happened. Hand had to be pointed outward, so keeping it pointed in during a bicep curl did enough to keep it in its groove sometimes. The tissue that usually held it in place is what detached

If you have weakness in your arms and carrying things overhead there is more than likely issues not in your hand but maybe your neck. Have you had a professional take a look?

Your symptoms make it sound like a trapped nerve mate. The symptoms you've described are exactly the same. Ive personally had the exact thing that you have. Went away in a few weeks. Just lay off anything that aggravates it

Yeah I had a neck injury before this so I was wondering that, good to know brah I’m on week two now. Did it slowly progress or just disappear after 3 weeks

I did have a bad strain in my neck before this so that was my other concern, haven’t had a professional take a look but it sounds like safcpaul confirmed my other thoughts

i damaged a forearm nerve doing zercher squats, lost skin sensation in that zone.
Went to a doc, got pregabalin prescribed for 2 weeks, skin sensation back to normal.

You should go to a doc, nerves are not something to take lightly.

Damaged my ulnar nerve in 2009, surgery in 2011. Chit sucks big time, if you really damage a nerve you’re kind of fuked, minor damage can heal though. Have had constant nerve pain numbness and weakened grip since injury but I maintain

It started getting better gradually until about 3 weeks later then it just went back to normal. Obviously bending your wrists back has done it to you and it has pinched a nerve. Easy enough done especially when pushing yourself in the gym. My wrists are very skinny so that probably makes me even more susceptible. Hope it clears up soon which im 99 percent sure it will. Your symptoms are literally identical to what i had

One time I carried a girl I was dating down a steep slope and I must have impacted my spine because afterwards I literally could not lift my feet up, like I couldn’t even drive because I had 0 strength in my foot to get it up to press the pedal. Was legit worried I’d need surgery or was paralyzed forever, it improved within a few days and within a week I was back to normal.

I was warming up for bench press when I was 19, I felt a pull and my arm went numb for about 3 years.

Didn’t lose any strength or anything and never went to doc cuz ya know... I was an invincible 19 year old.
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.
