The suburbs have always been the cities best kept secret. Most people didn’t realize how nice and great the QoL is in huge parts of jersey. They think it’s all refineries. Long Island is already packed but the mass exodus to NJ is already happening. This combined with how many people have transitioned to work from home. The MTA is crumbling. They want to tax commuters more and more to pay for it. NJ is talking about taxing Nj residents that work in NY extra to make up for their budget gaps. So it’ll be very interesting to see where the chips fall as this progresses

I can’t imagine another broadway opening anywhere but really are there good museums besides natural history and modern art in the city anyways ... no restaurants... if business moves out they won’t recover even when they can open ..

There is no other city in the world (Maybe Asia) with such a condensed population, where no matter the time of day if you walk down a busy block you’ll be in a sea of people. And tons of international travel

All of the surrounding Burroughs exists to support the central industry and economy. If all of that leaves, it’s not going to be good.


I’ve been saying for years, officecels clogging up the roads just to sit at their desk and attend a few in person meetings is ****ing ridiculous

On my walk this morning I went by a moving van with a sign on the side saying they specialize in moving people between New York and Florida. (I live in Florida) Sign of the times I was joking to myself.

I don't know what is going to happen to New York. I don't know what attracts people to that city. Of late with the riots, wide spread destruction seen, the harsh economic shut down that continues in the city and state, and a city and state government that is unfriendly to business, I'd guess many are considering other locations to live and do business. Maybe the city will rebound from all it has been through. With the current path the city is taking though, I have doubts the city will come back as vibrant as it once was.

Tons of companies have left. Many now work remote and moved out. Tons of businesses shuttered. Unemployment is sky high. Many fear livfing in a big city now with virus fears.

Now tell me again, "how will it bounce back?". If anyhthing, there will now be a BIG movement to suburbs as people (esp young people) realize big crowded cities are scams to live and work in. Just visit like the rest of us do

- mayor that wont do anything
- cuts to police force
- homeless returning to the streets
- riots and looting
- small businesses closed forever from COVID and looters
- most people "working from home"
- increased taxes


People are wondering why the fuk should they even stay there and pay sky high rent, sky high taxes when they can work from home anyway. People are leaving. 400k bounces already.


city got better from the 80s and early 90s from what? strong police force and focus on crime. lmao now they want to replace police with social workers. They are undoing all the improvements they made.

People go there because there’s so much money to be made. Tons of people hate the city and still work there, they go to take the money
