Location: Coffeyville Kansas. Worst town in Kansas to live in according to Google. Meth, crime & unemployment are prevalent. You get used to it. Upside: rental houses are real cheap to buy.

Someday i'd like to retire in a small rural town on 4 acres.

Set up a glass workshop, grow some mary jane, set up a gun/archery range, grow my own food, etc.

There's also alot of people that commute from Tulsa to work at the refinery in Coffeyville. They pull down 6 figures a year.

But for entertainment in a small town, you have to create it yourself. Already have a sporting clays range in my back yard, play around doing dirt work with a skid steer and dozer (building a pond), have a tractor with a bush hog to manage a dove field, there's 2 stocked ponds on my property too, probably have 20 deer living on it as well. Trail cameras are fun. You never know what the next picture of whatever animal is going to be (deer, coyote, bobcat, fox).

It's quiet, you can pretty much do whatever with your property, people are friendly.

The distance to a city and not as great internet is a downside, but the peace and quiet and nature is very relaxing.

Couldn't imagine having to do what some home owners association tells me to do.

Let me shoot guns, set off fireworks, and do whatever the **** I want to my yard.

Brb Every person had a police scanner in their house
Brb 1 small grocery store
Brb drove 6 hrs to the Bay Area every weekend

Good restaurants, specialty shopping, venues for live music. If I want any of that, it's a 75 mile drive.

Amazon is a thing now for shopping.

Where I live the best restaurants are in the burbs anyway. Also the music venues. The city where I work pretty much shuts down when everyone leaves work. The crime sucks so bad everyone and everything, except for the 9-5 businesses fled to the burbs. They've tried to revitalize the downtown a bit but every place that stays open after dark has to have off duty cops working security with blue lights on in the parking lot to scare off the criminal element

The older I get, the more I want to move away from everyone. I would love to have a house in a rural area with a bunch of open land and a lake/pond nearby for fishing.

Golf, shooting, and drinking alone would keep me pretty busy. Couple that with some reading, internet porn and smoking meats and I'd be happy. Give me a dirt bike and oh lawd. Can't have half of that chit when you live in a human filing cabinet.

The only thing cities offer IMO are jobs (you need those unfortunately), chicks, and consumerism. Give people the choice to relocate for remote jobs and you see exactly what they're doing - they're getting the phuck away from cities because the job is the only reason they even wanted to live there.

When I lived in the St Louis metro, I would see live music at least 2-3x a week. Not a concert mind you, but a cover band in a bar that serves food. This was in the 90's. Now, I can count on my 2 hands the number of times I've done that in the last 20 years.

In a city, I can grab Chinese food in 5-10 mins...In a small town you probably have to eat the same chinese food from the same restaurant, otherwise you have to drive like 30 mins to the city.
