There are multiple red flags according to a very smart person I know. He thinks:

The fed has bought massive amounts of corporate debt that is worthless

The fed is buying up 30 year treasury bonds because no one else wants them

Russia and Iran are teaming up now to create a new reserve currency based on oil

New regulation has frozen banks requirement to report their reserves and are basically running at zero

More and more mortgages and government backed loans are going to completely default

The market isn’t an accurate indicator, many reasons. Lots of big investors are getting out, it’s being propped up for other reasons as Rome burns. He didn’t bring it up but also lol at Apple and amazon being such a big part of it yikes

If the banks implement a mass credit reduction and even if not there could very well be massive societal changes coming. He thinks the eviction freezes are an attempt to force negotiation between tenant and landlord and widely it isn’t working.

I disagree OP. I have think years of inflating prices while wages have stagnated is a good sign. I also think the last couple years of quantitative easing shows just how robust the market really is. Also the fact that our country manufactures very few things is reassuring too.

Overall we're doing great!!!!

china bought the majority of the US debt over the last couple of years.

china is now selling a lot of the debt meanwhile the national debt is about to hit 27 trillion.

Idk opie

Having a country completely divided culturally while small businesses shut down, unemployment skyrockets, corporate real estate crashes, evictions frozen, and propping it up with printed money sounds like the keys to a successful economy to me.

Housing market guaranteed to crash sometime in the next 2-5 years. We've set ourselves up for a 2008 crash all over again as far as housing is concerned, we apparently learned nothing.

Yet here's my dumb ass trying to buy a house right now. Whatever, not putting my life on hold just because it seems like the world is on fire, I'mma do me bruh.

It'll crash 1st or 2nd quarter next year. And will last for 3-5 years with major foreclosures.

It will be a US dollar crisis the next crash when the world finally catches on that the US will never pay its debt and USD loses its reserve status. Fed and its money printer is causing this out of touch stock market. This has been in the making for a long time due to the feds actions. The fact that anyone is still even buying US treasuries is assanine when the 30 year yield is at an all time low. The US dollar will be worthless by inflation by the time you make any interest on it. Definitely have some commoditities on hand and foreign stocks cause its gonna get crazy once things start moving and it'll happen very quickly. The fed will go into printing overdrive with more QE though before it all happens I think.

It was sometime in 2007-2008 for me.

The financial crisis (oh, hey, Clinton era deregulation set us up for that.) + the Democrats getting control of congress.
The 110th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, between January 3, 2007, and January 3, 2009, during the last two years of the second term of President George W. Bush. It was composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The apportionment of seats in the House was based on the 2000 U.S. Census.
Prior to that I was already agog at the level of crap legislation being passed that seemed designed to blow up in our faces and the apparent approval (or at least resignation) to violations of our rights.

Having grown up in that blue collar/"Democrats support the working man" kind of family I had some hope that if the Democrats gained control that they would start turning things around by getting us out of the ME and rolling back some of the over the stop security BS that was justified by 9/11.

It didn't happen.

Which combined with the financial meltdown lead me down other paths trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

With Covid19 and all the shutdowns for as long as they were, surprised things aren't much worse. Honestly, sounds like it's being well managed. Oh, and LOL@Russia/Iran.... they have the GDP if what, the US in a month? And no name in the banking industry.
