You can say you have a medical condition and due to hippa laws you do not have to disclose what your condition is and even if you did, they aren't qualified to assess it anyways. Just let them know they are violating the law by even asking you what your conditon is, and for them to deny you access is violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This even includes if it's the police asking you. Don't be a dick about it, just be matter of fact and ask them to respect your wishes. If they continue to push it I'm not sure how far but most places won't call your bluff considering what will happen if they lose.

Friend of mine works at a retail store and they put her on the door and told her not to let anyone in that wasn't wearing a mask. Manager told them that this medical excuse stuff is complete BS and she didn't even want to hear it. Well, they denied a guy and now he dropped a lawsuit on them and the manager has already been fired.

Some asshat will come in here and argue the hippa part. The fact is, 99 out of 100 times if you say you have a medical condition, the store clerk will cower away apologizing. By the way, my medical condition is that i have a brain.

This is 100% incorrect. HIPAA only applies to people with access to your medical chart. Just like how it's not against the law for your mom to tell people that you have a cold.

The ADA allows them to ask for your condition so that they can reasonably accommodate it.

So if someone outside the medical field asks for your condition you have to give it to them?
Can they assess that person's medical conditions to if it qualifies or not?

I'm not arguing, im SRS. So they can ask, but Do you have to disclose your medical information to a store clerk? Accomodate is different from assesment.

No, I cannot give it to them without a court order or written permission. However, it's perfectly legal for the business to ask for your condition so that they can reasonably accommodate you, and if you don't comply, they don't have to accommodate you.

If you say "I cannot wear a mask due to a medical condition" and they say, "okay, what's your condition so we can help you?", and you don't answer, they can tell you to go screw off. If you tell them what it is, they then can accommodate you. For example, if you go to the grocery store but won't wear a mask, they can accommodate you by asking what you want and then bringing it to your car.

However, it's not a HIPAA violation for them to ask you. It'd be a HIPAA violation of your doctor to tell them your condition without written permission or a court order, though.

That being said, according to doctors I know, there is no medical condition which is a valid contraindication to wearing a mask.

Unless you were wearing a mask during flu season your entire life you’re in no position to pass judgment on somebody for not wearing a mask now. Covid has proven itself to be little more than a bad chest cold with a 99% survival rate, not something that society should alter itself for.
