you could never become an f1 driver cause you weren't born rich. you could never become a pro athlete because of the time/opportunity costs risk that you don't go pro

no time to become a full-time musician, fishing for marlin/yellow fin, or Boxer, etc.


you have to choose from safe careers such as STEM, Business related fields, Nursing, Trades; and work for the next 50 years 40-60 hrs a week

You don't get to choose your looks, intelligence, parents, socioeconomic setting.....pretty much nothing.

And whatever success you do achieve is based on causal effects you didn't have any control over either.

Always have to respect those that were forced to walk the harder path though.

There are no books on the open market that even support the freewill argument anymore, because there is no argument that can be made for freewill.

Aside from that, I believe people have "will", and their belief in how much they enjoy acting it out.

A lot of philosophy gets into weird arguments on it, probably because most definitions are a contradiction.

yeah i think a lot of pro athletes are people that grew up poor because of the opportunity cost factor. why focus all your time, effort ect on something that you still have such a low chance of ever achieving if you have a more "sure thing" conventional career ahead of you. if they were broke but had extreme athletic potential then they have nothing to lose really in trying

It's 40 hours of work in a 168 hour week.

In the right field you're clearing 6 figures a year.

With covid you're working from home with nothing to stop you from drinking at work. In the right field you can drink in the office.

Yea but i think its different than most people think. And im sure you know more, im just addressing this specific statement

But for instance, you could be presented with so many choices it gives the illusion of free will. Similar to the subconscious thinking one way, so when you encounter something one way you already think about it in a certain pattern, but that pattern can still be changed

If it bothers you just go back to the way things were before you encountered the information lol

I kind of wanted to be a lawyer, because my writing skills are a lot better than my math skills, but I ended up doing engineering cause my parents live at the poverty line and $180K of non-dischargeable student loans was too big of a gamble to take without having dat rich family backstop. Srs, the outcomes for lawyers who don't graduate top of their class get fukking grim. My grad degree in engineering came for like a tenth of the cost of a law degree.

Same thing with medicine (didn't really want to do that though.) My mom has two shattered legs from a 60 MPH head-on car crash (other driver was committing suicide) (absolute dick move) (there but for the grace of God go I) and always bitches at me, "why didn't you go into medicine?" "why can't you tell me what's wrong with my legs?" and I'm like, it would have been too much risk to take out a quarter-million of debt on my own, and I know you couldn't help with any of it cause y'all are poor.

If I was born into a rich family, I'd probably be finishing law school right now, srs.

Opportunity cost.

Between base and stock options, I'll be making about $350K over the next three years. If I go to law school, I lose all of that and assume another $180K in debt. Basically, becoming a lawyer at this point would cost me a half-million dollars.

Or do it like 99% of the “rich people” out there and inherit wealth/assets through generational transfer, then flex on everyone else making them think you’re self made
