I can't believe people still worry about macros

Even fitness influencers with the prestigous PhD next to their name still talk about macros...

It's just calories in vs calories out.

Some how, people legit think their body composition is going to change if they don't track macros or if they have 'out of wack' ratios....... LOL

wtf ?

Misc help.

Well you still need to worry about getting enough fat and protein to meet your minimum daily requirements.

no it isnt

For simple weight loss / gain its calories in calories out

For performance/body composition its Macros > Micros > Calories.....and its all down to individual.

Lmao

How can you NOT hit your protein min and fat min ??

Without trying I get those.

To the guy who said CICO vs tracking macros = different body comp / performance.

I've done both. Both had the same outcome except cico was ten fold easier. (Both aesthetics and performance)

Thermic effect of food influences calories out side of the equation, so yes - macros do matter but not a huge amount.

Dude that's a pretty big generalization for someone at your level. For 99% percent of the population's goals, you're absolutely correct and i agree.

But if you don't think nutrient timing and specific ratios in meals has an impact on body comp for people who have every other box ticked in terms of training, recovery, etc, i think your dead wrong

CICO still rules, but the things i've said above can definitely be prudent in a surplus when pushing food and trying to manage body comp.

Can't believe people still think all calories are the same.

Calories in vs out is retard tier lvl 1 nutrition
Macros is next level, then micros
Optimising diet for hormonal profile is top level

Yeah you're right. Eating 4000 cals with 600g carbs and 60g fat vs 100g carbs and 280 g fat will yield the exact same training performance

Still need to hit protein daily requirements. Try eating 100% of your calories from skittles and see how you feel and how you look.

Agree to some extent

Struggle to even give a chit about protein anymore. Just try and get some with each meal. The rest can go to hell besides calories. Gave a crap for too long and have no craps left to give

Interestingly my results are a lot better now that I've chilled the fuk out

No it doesn't. Ive tried different diets and im speaking from experience, im willing to bet you're just being hypothetical
I'm not being hypothetical at all. I'm speaking as someone who's been very CICO iifym for years and recently been working someone who's completely changed my mind based on actual results.

Macros do matter, maybe not as much as some people think, but it matters.

In terms of weight lost or gained, CICO is all that matters, but if you actually care about how this weight is composed then protein matters.

Fat also matters, since a certain amount of fat is required for health to be functioning optimally. But beyond that, for most people (but not ALL) it doesn't matter much. Calories, protein, minimum amount of fat then the rest of the Calories can be made up however for most people, without altering results much.

Micronutrients

400 calories of a macro/Micro'ed up breakfast is totally different from a breakfast jack

Nervous system management
stress management
gut health

insulin sensitivity

Meal timing is not important either. You're concerned over fhe most neglible things which dont amount to any noticeable difference
Yeah you're right. Pushing cals by an additional 1300 with no changes in rate of fat gain while already in a surplus = placebo

It mostly matters when cutting, more so when calories get low during the final stretch. Once you go back to maint, for most all that really matters is getting 70g+ brotein. Pretty hard to not get min fats and carbs even when you're not thinking about it.

Micros tho...

Repping you to green for this post because they are EXTREMELY overlooked aspects of fitness. Stan Efferding goes into this in detail on many videos.

But OP, not sure if your original post is SRS or not...... macros, micros, CICO are all important aspects of making serious changes to your physique. There is a big difference in how the body will look and perform with 3000k of chit food vs. 3000k of nutrient dense food.

I don't count macros anymore. I did for ten years while I was training to make all my gains, and did up till last June. I'm experimenting with "maintenance" now for the first time. I generally eat a really clean, high-nutrient diet, but won't necessarily track my cals exactly and more estimate.

Having said that, my training isn't as solid as it used to be. It's not a drastic difference, but I can see it. My performance was much better when I was making sure I got the 'proper' amount of macro and micronutrients.

I think for a lot of people, tracking macros is just a nice alternative to simply tracking calories. I liked doing it throughout the years. But seriously, you difference in performance for 2 people - the first tracking calories and the second ensuring they hit their macros, will probably be pronounced. Depends on what you eat too. 3000 cals comprised of 400g schit carbs will yield worse results than 400g complex carbs.

I think for a lot of people obsessively counting and tracking food (and planning endless workout routines) is cope and used as a stand-in for willpower, i.e. actually eating well and busting their ass in the gym consistently.

Counting calories and macros is quite pointless unless you're going to go into the minutiae of bioavailability of different foods, activity levels, thyroid function and etc. You can never be absolutely precise on either side of the equation, especially the calories out, unless you're going to go full autismode and have a lab or something. I much prefer to just eyeball things and have a rough idea, and it works just as well if not better, I know people who count calories and make barely any gains nor lose much fat.

I'm not saying what you consume doesn't matter, it absolutely does, but the act of counting and tracking I find totally cringe and mostly pointless.
