Apparently it’s called “establishing” myself. I just don’t understand this species sometimes. Why should I waste $500 a month on a new car when mine runs just fine and $1k on a mortgage every month 3 months into my first full time job? It’s not a race for who can get the material things society deems important when the finish line is 6 feet under the ground. Most ppl in their culture are so insecure in their own skins that they’d rather force a new car and house purchase and otherwise live like totally broke people just so they can fit in with cultural norms and beliefs over what you should want. I’d rather blow my money on food, aesthetic maxxing, and trading options based partly on the advice of the autists at r/wallstreetbets if I really wanted to financially handicap myself.

And yes they’re immigrants. Did anyone else deal with this on here too? Is it worth caving? They give me the vibe that they view my car like an ex wife they want me to stop spending time with.

If you mean it’s just insecurity to vicariously flex through your children I think that’s exactly what it is. Oh but Abdullah’s child is married and drives a BMW.

I. Don’t. Give. Af.

This is why I appreciate white folks srs. They just want their kids to be happy which is more wholesome and cute.

white people have their own issues. and their parents can be ubernarcissists too.

imagine your mom is one of those fit milf stacies and you're a whale or an uggo. life is over. those moms treat their daughters like chit. srs.

but i know one italian chick who's an inkie whore. she said her mom, a prof in the sciences at mcmaster, doesn't mind. srs. apparently her mom had a really strict upbringing so she became chill as a parent. that chick makes 100-150K/yr cash tho.

It’s such a weird way of being though like who cares. I just invest. S&p500 has a better return than what you get from a house anyway

Maybe your parents just want you to be successful and have nice things. Do you live with them or rent?

mortgage a house near a college. like Durham College. rent to ****** students only cus they don't know anything about the law so you can evict them or treat them like chit if you want. they don't have pets either and don't party hard.

keep a room or the basement to yourself. garage for your home gym.

Not necessarily. CA we have made roughly 250K in three years and a lil over a 100k in Illinois in 2 years.

Buying car is stupid.

Buying house if you get a lower monthly payment is smart.

Why define success based on how they (are told by society to) value material things?

I live on rent

Maybe they want you to have a reliable form of transportation, and nothing is going to make you money faster than a house... location of said house is crucial of course.

Brah my vehicle is safer than their civic which skids every time you jam the breaks.

Meh not necessarily true when you start crunching the numbers beyond property appreciation. Plus it’s not a super liquid investment. Any money you might make would be 5 years from today. That’s 5 years being house broke and a mortgage over your head. Only reason to buy a house is to find a home imo which isn’t that important to me rn. These guys did a good job breaking down the costs:

https://www.thesimpledollar.com/mort...od-investment/

I know home owners get ultra defensive on this but it’s worth a read.

Anyway other threads for this debate. It’s a good place to call home but if you’re trying to make money you’re probably better off crunching the numbers beyond property appreciation.

Its hard to say. being facially aesthetic I skipped past all that and just was esteemed by default with anyone I met despite what I own.

but if you don't have looks to fall back on yeah. You might need that stuff to feel like you are "somebody"

even if we take property values increasing away and say the price is stagnant which is smarter? Spending money on rent with absolutely 0% return x years from now? Or paying a mortage that you will one day receive minimum 50% of the money spent on it back over x years?

Yea but this isn’t about looks/insecurity at an individual level and purchases to fill insecurities. It’s about perception of children through their material flashing to fill insecurities about so and so kids doing this or that. It’s kind of a cultural issue.

Buy a house if it makes financial sense to buy a house. Establishing yourself simply means having something to show for your years of work.

Right, my mom never once once had to feel cope about me or my status lol

She was able to mom-mog all other mothers because she made me lol and people constantly would stare at me or 9 out of 10 people would mention that im handsome and constantly fuel her ego.

Most people spend their hard earned money on stupid chit. I don't see any problem with investing your money rather than jumping straight into the real estate market. You can earn way more and buy a property outright after a bit of saving and investing or because the interest rates being so low, get several properties in the future.

believe it or not had the exact same thing growing up though now I’m losing glow unless I maxx out lifestyle wise. That shyt just doesn’t carry a lot of value in our culture. I’m sure religion plays a part. When at dinner parties no one is talking about bytches or face mogging it’s about the child’s grades whether he’s married, and whether he has a car or house. Such a stupid game. Makes me appreciate white people more. I think moms would be too self obsessed with each other to think much about mogging via son’s looks lol

Well that’s viewing it in a vacuum. You have to consider the amount of money you save per month by not owning a house opening up other possibilities to spend and invest. As well as time value of money of that initial investment. Because at the end of the day money is for spending. If your don’t derive value from it you’re better off not getting one. It’s not an investment if you believe you need a house to live in. Because the only reason you’d want to sell it is probably to get another one. If you derive value from living in a house and calling the door knob your own then by all means. If you derive value from other things then by all means. That’s all it comes down to. Money is for spending. Not net value maxxing. Plus qualitative factors. Freedom, not worrying about shyt breaking, more inclined to travel, etc.

There is something to be said about owning your own house and not being under the thumb of your landlord. Like you say its more than a financial decision but is there value knowing you won't have to move unless you want to? Being able to move in a roommate for extra rent, making it your own, etc.

Yea I agree that is both a benefit and cost in its own way. A lot of it comes down to the landlords you get but the added security is definitely a benefit. 100%. I think the net is just something that will just vary person to person
