Kensington, looking like a war zone... crazy to think that less than 2 miles from there is hipster central (Fishtown and Northern Liberties) where rent for a 1bed, 1bath can go for upwards of $2k

I remember having a 4 hour layover in Philly, so I decided to get a legit cheesesteak in the city. I got a cab to take me to Dalessandros I believe it was called, and we drove through some sketchy parts, where groups of kids had no issues blocking the street w/ sports games and would get pissed off when the cab drive honked the horn at them. They barely stepped aside and yelled at the driver through the window. 12 year olds or whatever. Mid day, week day, school in session. Kids also approaching the cab to talk chit to the driver. Unsettling AF and my jimmys were full on rustled. Most intimidated I've felt anywhere tbh.

Great cheesesteak tho.

That was filmed in the famous Kensington area of Philly.

I could tell by the house that have a full cage around the porch and windows, they are like decorative cages so you can have a porch without it being a break in entry point.

I used to work in that area and walk around looking for criminal mental patients who escaped.

It is a totally crazy place with MANY abandoned homes used as crack houses, and if you're a female and go to one, you are going to get raped. Every white girl I know with drug problems has been raped countless times, it is hard to imagine.

Black dudes will punch out a girl and take her to one of those places, tie her up, rape her for days, and just let her go.

No big deal yo!

However, if you're a dude and you aren't dressed too well, you can walk around and it's no big deal. They will just assume you're there for drugs.

I have even gone in crack houses looking for people and it's cool.

There's a Walgreens on Kensignton and Allegheny (famous hell spot) and I was looking for a friend of mine that relapsed because he mom asked me. Anyway, there's a street called "hilton" right next to it. People would walk down sad, then be back in minutes looking happy, and I think they were selling crack. Anyway, I scope out this BEAUTIFUL girl with honey colored hair walking with a crack pipe in her hand and a big smile. She was also wearing a pink bathrobe and matching fuzzy slippers. Part of me wanted to get out of the car and ask her what the f@ck she was doing there.

But, I knew it wouldn't about to anything.

Across the street this huge black guy was selling "Bearded Dragon Lizards" in the middle of all of this drug action.

On a side note, this is the kind of place supposed "racists" don't like and liberal erase out of their minds.

That was filmed in Kensington and in one scene they're on "mutter street" which is in that area. North Philly is bad but it is quiet compared to where they filmed.

Now, I'm working with kids and doing art therapy, which is my retirement type gift to myself.

My girl at the time thought I was having an affair on her because in the middle of the night I would have to leave because someone was getting naked or I would come home hours after work because I was at some hospital trying to check someone in, etc.

My brother went to Drexel for grad school so I visited him a few times in Philly. I remember some of the shops in a ghetto area that already closed up in the afternoon. Went up to one of the doors which had a paper on it that read something like "We don't have a lot of money here, please don't rob us" (srs). Such is life in the city of brotherly love.

How often were they on drugs? How often did they come from supportive networks? Did they own property or otherwise care to mind their professional profile? How many times did you see Connor Murphy?

I worked in a hospital with involuntary inpatients once. They mostly seemed like drug addicts and people with no one around to support them.

I'm just wondering what elements seem common. I'm guessing unhealthy families, drugs and poverty come with most.

I like Diet Pepsi and have to drive out of the city because it is taxed to heinous prices, as part of the "war on sugar", although it contains no calories. So, I shop in bucks county, as do many Philly people, so the city screwed its stores out of important business.

I used to live by the school district building and you could smell giant clouds of weed coming out of that place, horrible.
