ITT: Quick OIL PAINTING I made this morning - GTFIH for some peace
I haven't painted in 3 weeks, which is the longest gap between paintings since I started nearly 2 years ago. I've been pretty tired lately, in desperate need of some time off, resulting in decreased motivation all around. Time is just flying by. I decided to follow along with an episode of The Joy of Painting this morning without too many expectations. Just a nice peaceful painting experience.
The episode I followed along with is called "At Dawn's Light." Here is my attempt, which took around 2 hours start to finish. It's not that great and I've definitely painted nicer ones, but my goal here was just to have fun and relax.

Hope this warm winter scene brings some peace to those who look at it.
Painting is a wonderful pursuit because it forces you to focus your attention on the present. It's a great mindfulness activity in the day particularly for those who have the tendency to ruminate about the past or worry about the future.
Cheers boyos!

The sky and the reflection on the ice is just beautiful. Love how soft and smooth the colors are all blended together.

In order to have a properly blended sky, it's really helpful to have a nicely primed canvas and a generous application of liquid h-white before starting.

If you look at the difference between the painting he did on the show in 26 minutes and the one he painted after, the difference is monumental. The colors are softer, more realistic, and the painting is incredibly detailed. What he was able to create in 26 minutes on the show was really impressive considering that truncated timeframe. That's really good. I actually like yours better than the guide you were following.Your colors look more realistic.
I always try to soften my paintings and use more natural colors. I actually tried to go a bit more 'unnatural' for this one just for fun since I'm always trying to mute my colors.
