is retirement the biggestt hoax of the century

I work my ass off till Im 65 then i get to enjoy my money. by then Ill be old as shtt, fat, and ugly. my dick probably wont work and I cant play any sports. even fishing or golf will be painful due to my destroyed back and knees from lifting weights. why the fukk would I save money I could use to have fun while Im young for old age. knowing my luck Ill die a day after I leave Shekkellberg's CPA firm at 65

Absolutely OP. It amazes me so many people think they'll still be able to fully enjoy life at 70.

Especially for the younger generation, just lol if you believe in "retirement", enjoy your life now. Embrace minimalism and fck working some full time job.

Younger generations are so fcked. Wanting a normal typcial middle class life is now getting harder than ever for the average western person. I'm also leaving out other metrics like the massive student debt some carry.

That's why I go so hard at the things I like doing now.

Some would say I should save more and work harder now. Fuk those people. Buying properties and building houses on them as I go, then renting them is the goal.

How do you know you'll even make it to 65? Statistically, half of males are dead within 10 years of that. Personally, I don't see myself living that long. Im here for a good time, not a long time.

Knew of this one girl's brother who was one of those super frugal (cheap ass) guys that was just all about saving money for retirement. When their dad died, he fought like hell legally to basically rob her of any inheritance, and he took every single penny and put it towards retirement. Not even a year later he got killed in a car accident. What was justice is one of the reasons he died in that crash was he was driving an old Honda that had almost no side impact protection and no side airbags and was hit by a pickup truck, and the reasons he slid sideways was because he drove on cheap bald tires. His wife who was just like him, is now fighting ovarian cancer which we know how that one usually turns out and it's not looking good at this time.

Tempted to retire at 28 (now) I have enough for probably 10 years or so go HAM now (or when corona is over) and then die before I'm 40.

The way I look at it is 65 isn't old if you're looked after yourself, I'm going to retire quite soon and everything is still working and I'm in very good shape. So I'm hoping I'll get 20 years at least of doing all the stuff I couldn't because of work, bring it on!

There's a partner at my work, approaching 60 and mandatory retirement, think he earns about a million a year and has been a partner for over 25 years, so presumably he is plenty wealthy.

Apparantly was fighting to stay on and will continue now as a 'consultant' for a few more years.

Why on earth would this man not ride off into the sunset? He must have absolutely nothing outside of work, I dont know if I should feel sorry for him. Was this his legacy? A life of 9-5 (alot more hours in reality) and he still can't let it go at 60 when he's worth millionssss ???

he's one of those sad kunts wholl die of depression the day they retire. my father's friend developed a severe mental illness due to no kids/wife and retired in a big city

should've followed my advice in his 20s 30s. now its too late

I work with a few people like that. Into their 70s with plenty of money to retire but basically work is all they know.

you can also take a break from work and do a early retirement break. i know a few people who did it in their 40s and went back part time almost immediately.

at my job theres 2 dudes who can retire but dont (work is all they have). there have been guys who left, then came back cuz basically their income was cut in half. Our old boss was forced retired at like early 70 something and died within a year. he came around a couple times early on to check up and you could kinda see the spark in his life was fading/gone

yeah man thats what im talking bout. even tho my job kinda sucks it at least gives me reason to get out of bed/the house and have some structure in my life. my roomie doesnt work and just collects guvment handouts and seems depressed af. just sits in front of tv/computer 15+ hours a day EVERYDAY. how is that not depressing af

My grandpa retired at 50 years old with private pension lmao.

This generation doesn't realize that the gov is trying to push the retirement age to 70 for SS and 401k benefits.

I am starting to think putting money into 401k is a scam knowing I won't be able to pull it out until around 70 without being penalized.

I could die today, or I could die at 90. I have no idea.

I've been debt free for a while (saving for a house, but got out of a car loan and CC debt) and while I'm very frugal, I do try to enjoy my life once in a while. I try to visit my parents once a month, grab a beer with friends, maybe get takeout at a local restaurant, try to buy feet pics from only fans (lmao jk). I'm also starting a 401K with 10% of my income invested monthly.

Life, for me, is about balance. I want to live in the now, but I don't know the future, so I want to prepare for that just in case. If I die before 65, my 401k will go to my parents or my sister. If I live past 65, well I'm going to have a driveway full of cool chit and living life to the fullest.

Yeah, its not ideal, but there is still plenty you can do in those later years- and all the better if you take care of yourself.

My job, especially now with the work from home due to COVID, almost feels like a semi retirement a lot of the time anyway. Still throwing 20% gross into retirement account though (along with FERS, which isn't a lot - but its still money) so whatever.

Also, I'm easily content so can and do live quite frugally.
