You aren’t getting 1k mortgage that isn’t a **** hole , but you also shouldn’t have a car payment like that especially with that salary

Also “broke” but still taking out savings, going out, and vacations. Uhhh that’s not broke, that’s the extra stuff you should spend on

I lived in beachfront in Lincoln park Chicago out of college on almost half the salary in the vid and had no problem saving, dating, doing whatever.

Vids like these are idiotic

I think you read that wrong.

I already suggested that 100k is not rich. But it's also not broke.

- $390 a month in student loan debt? Borderline stupid
-$500 a month in groceries for a SINGLE person?
- $250 in utilities? Awfully high for a 200k home.
- $150 for cable/internet - probably right
-$150 for one cell phone? They don't even offer single plans that high anymore
- $200 in gas? That comes out to driving3,000 miles per month
- $400 date night? Pricey for sure
- $120 in car insurance is reasonable

Why? I'm buying a house in 2021 and my mortgage target is below $1,200/month.

An average 3/2 or 4/2 is all me and my family need, just because I make 3 or 4 times the median household income doesn't mean I need 3 or 4 times the house.

Right, but withholding is generally above effective tax rates after exemptions/std deduction unless you make the proper selections on your W4 to align. So my guess is unless he is just confused that he is getting that difference back as a refund instead of just getting it on his paychecks like he should.

$530 isn't even a crazy expensive car payment and $3k for an entire year of travel is small too. Theres no point in even trying to earn a lot of money if you literally don't intend to enjoy it. What do you do, stare at the wall and drink beer all day every day? Must be a dull life.

Why's that? My previous house was 185k with a $1,050 payment including escrow for taxes and insurance. It was an 1800 sqft new construction 3/2.

Interest rates are slightly lower now. Also 0 down VA loan with no funding fee.

My mortgage is legit double that, and I'm not even in an area with particularly high cost of living (but not cheap either)

Taxes, home insurance, and PMI will put a $1,200 mortgage closer to a 2k monthly payment

Yeah, have never had tax withholdings before, so curious how it's all going to shake out.

I would never pay PMI because I'm not a moron.

Anyways, I am aware of taxes and insurance. Sorry that you live somewhere where those 2 items cost $800. In the area I'm buying they're more like $250 total. So for a $200k home I'd be very close to my goal in total payment, which buys a decent 3/2 or 4/2.

I agree I think the groceries is accurate. I definitely spend roughly $125/week (4 weeks month). Granted I NEVER eat out so I bet I have a higher grocery bill total than those of you who eat out more (in the end... I save more money on food though)

Didn't read all the posts ITT, or even watch the video, but I see the thumbnail for the list of bills / CoL.

-Brb paid off car so no car payment so $530/mo saved there.
-Brb paid off student loans so no student loan payment so $390/mo saved there.
-Brb paid off cell phone and only pay $50/mo for my plan so $100/mo saved there.
-Brb live near work and don't drive much... even pre-COVID I'd say I paid below $100/mo on gas, so let's just say $100/mo save there.

Live with GF and split too so our rent payments and bill payments are on the cheap. But I won't factor that in...

My car insurance is more expensive than their number though, so I'll take a loss there by like $50/mo.

I'd almost say I don't even spend as much on groceries, and date nights, but there's things I do like platform subscriptions, holiday shopping, birthday shopping, that probably offsets that a bit, so I'll pretend that they're accurate numbers.

So all said and done I'm looking at saving $1070/mo more than what they're talking about. Or $12,840/year. Made ~$97k gross last year, looking at closer to $105k this year 2021.

Anyone with "payments" other than rent/mortgage/bills is a chump.

With current interest rates in most scenarios the cost of paying PMI, having a smaller down payment, and investing the difference is actually more financially beneficial than a larger down payment and avoiding PMI

But yea if you’re paying just $250 more it isn’t bad

Don't buy a 60k truck on a 100k salary.

Very common.

But honestly, as long as you're saving about 20% who gives a phuk what you do with the rest of your cash. Have to live a little. Sure you could up your savings rate to 50% but it's not worth being miserable for 20 years of a career just to one day hope to retire.

You really aren't living well anymore until deep into 6 figures. Everything is so expensive, most people can't build savings unless they live with parents

imagine spending half the amount your mortgage is on car payments.

If anyone lives in a city where a mortgage is 1k with insurance and taxes and still have trouble living off 100k, then they deserve to be a failure

This makes zero sense. So they say the person making 100k has like 125 in extra income per week. What does the 60k person have then? Negative dollars per week? 100k isn’t average. So basically 50-80k people are homeless now?
