It takes a special kind of insanity to become a pro bodybuilder. I dont doubt the dedication and hard work it takes I just dont think its worth it.

Louis Theroux covered this in one of his earliest Weird Weekend docs. In the episode he followed a black bodybuilder woman that was escorting in hotels, she claimed it was rampant in the industry. Pretty funny stuff, also good flash back to the pre 2012 past.

bodybuilding outside of being an IFBB pro doesn't pay the bills, even then ....

bodybuilders rely on social media, sponsors, marketing, selling merch, programs, etc. Some may have full time jobs as well.

i think many people who followed some of the early youtube fitness bodybuilders remember Kali muscle as chuck basher lol! I think Matt Ogus discussed his experiences in G4P. Probably isn't has rampant now but who knows, "natural" bodybuilding, physique competitions and just bodybuilding in general outside of Olympia has gotten more popular so maybe people aren't resorting as much to G4P lol ...

The dark side of the biz... and ONE of the reasons competing on stage never appealed to me. It's been enough for me to maintain and shatter my own goals and mainly compete with myself over the years.
Fact: My first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Robinson! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could have the right to freedom.

Some of these show competitors I know seem to travel all over the world while working as a "personal trainer", so I have a tough time believing it's from their personal training salary.

How is this news, chit's being going on since the very early days of pro bb-ing, hell, Weider & co made their money from hustling out "competitors" and shooting materials with them.


Same goes for all of the "professions" where performance is subjective. Beauty pageants, modeling, acting, singing etc.

As much as I champion bodybuilding lifestyle, doing actual bodybuilding shows is pretty much a degenerate act at this point.

No normal people do it and nobody does it for normal reasons.

You're about a decade late opee. I made this account when I left LA after going there to get into bodybuilding. Lifted at Gold's Venice and the whole bit. Phil Heath was up and coming, Silvio Samuel was a regular, and saw a bunch of cool people out there.

Yeah, I awfukbye'd after a few months out there and grabbing beers and quickly learning like 70% of bodybuilders are on dat der gay4pay time with lawyers/surgeons in secret. Met up with this one couple at a hotel they were staying at, was having cocktails with them and the wife is like "okay i have to go meet one of my shmoes. i'll meet up with you all later". We stayed in the hotel bar drinking, she comes back an hour later telling us how some old rich guy just gave her $800 to tie him up, slap him around, then making him suck her toes lmfao. The entire bodybuilding/fitness industry is nothing but mentally ill people. Rich Piana is a prime example.
