Story time on ovens and glass cracking... once upon a time my gf was making something in the oven and also cooking on top. She was baking in a Pyrex dish. When she took the Pyrex dish out, she set it on top of the stove, but forgot to turn the burner off that was in use just before. The Pyrex dish literally exploded. I mean, exploded. Little shards of glass EVERYWHERE. I was in the shower at the time and I get out to her bawling because she thought I was going to be angry she exploded my Pyrex in my kitchen. I think I was too amazed that it didn’t get in her eyes or cause anymore damage than what it did to be mad.

So yeah, no glass on active stove tops.

Not sure. I was cooking like normal. Was walking back from the trash can and heard the noise. Maybe just stress over time or something. Bad luck with glass this week though.

You should have beat the GF for that..... jk.

Maybe I’ll be wrong on ammo prices decreasing them stabilizing within 7 months, we’ll see.

Business math says it’s a no brainer to me- not as low as pre-covid , but not this BS

A medium to moderate size company is easily going to see how they could re-tool and upgrades virtually net free right now utilizing the special programs and accelerated depreciation gimmicks, cares act navigation , etc.

All it takes is 1-3 over-producing and to gain customer loyalist and brand recognition for being “the one that price is it normal” - then laws of competition in capitalism will shortly follow.

Idk.

I ordered another in stock sig m400 ar 15 that has that BDX Bluetooth scope system for $1299 last night , got the rangefinder as well- and a Harris bipod.

Also a laser bore sight kit for it and the pistols.

I bought a case of frontier awhile back and then heard how chit it was after. Split the case with a friend and mag dumped the whole case in an afternoon just to get rid of it. Haven’t shot like that in awhile

Ended up being fine, no failures or anything.

I have a couple QD end points but stopped using them, not secure enough/too far from torso. May be easier for off shoulder transitions than stock mount.

Some more old nostalgia pics

This is my now 30yr old HK/Benelli M3 super 90 12 gauge pump and semi auto shotgun, with inertia-driven action.

This is the one I was saying I’m gonna have to take and get some professional clean up finish work done to.

It’s been beat up a bit to say the least- did some of my first combat training courses with it even prior to service.

In the pic for chits and giggles that’s some old stuff I found going through my things.

A pack of armor vehicle recognition playing cards

And a former Yugoslavia handbook they gave us in prep for a security action - it’s actually pretty laughable when you read the whole thing.

Also a barrel plug for a 25 mm chain gun.

Maybe, i’m interested to see how it goes.

Reading up some- it sounds like I’ll be able to sight them in with less ammo than traditional method. and with ammo prices it might be a net cost.

Seems to be a few positive opinions out there- I kind of want to try it just because I’ve never done it before.

Companies like LaserLyte offer laser bore sighting devices and bore sighting kits. There are many advantages to bore sighting- using a laser. First, they are a far more precise method than using your eye. While visually bore sighting a firearm may get you on paper at 100 yards, laser bore sighting will put you much closer to center and will require less ammo in the long run when zeroing the rifle. Second, you don’t have to look down the barrel to bore sight your gun when using a laser (the gun should always be unloaded, though), because the laser devices are inserted in the muzzle of the rifle, then the rifle moved so that the laser hits the center of the target. Then all you have to do is move the scope’s reticles to be centered on the laser dot. The bigger advantage to this is that a laser can be used to bore sight lever-actions and other guns that don’t have removable bolts or can otherwise have their barrels viewed through from the breech end.
https://www.letsgoshooting.org/2018/...ghting-basics/

I’m thinking maybe I can get each sighted in a rest with a few rounds or so using one. We’ll see.

Old school trick to making staring down barrel method better is used a brass casing with no primer that hasn’t been loaded yet. Makes a smaller hole and more accurate initial sight.

A little easier to do on bolt actions and stuff.

You gotta do some disassembly and use barrel for the method to work on an m16.

Problem- gachaes’s eyes suck now.

Maybe a compete waste we’ll see.

Do you have access to a hand mirror? If so, you can place the scope on a mirror like so:

Which will let you see the relative position of the reticle if you then look into the scope. If the reticle is centered, it will look like this:

If the reticle is off to one side, stuck against the inner wall of the tube, it will look like this:

Note the slightly offset “shadow reticle” in the 2nd image inside the scope.

If the reticle is offset, like in the 3rd image above, you can recenter the turret by moving the turret in the direction the reticle needs to shift to align with the center reticle. In the above image, you would turn the turret for impact “down”.

To zero a scope with a zero MOA base, align the shadow reticle with the main reticle. Take 3 shots with NO adjustment at 25 yds. Measure the amount of left/right offset on paper in inches. Multiply that number by 4 to get the equivalent distance at 100 yds to dial for your scope.

Example You are 1" to the right at 25 yds. Multiply 1" x 4 = 4" at 100 yds equivalent. Divide by increment of adjustment of scope (1/2 MOA is common for 1-6x24s, 1/4 MOA or 1/10 Mil are common for higher power scopes)

Example 1/2 MOA clicks, 4/(1/2 MOA) = 4/ (1/2) = 8 clicks
Example 1/4 MOA clicks, 4/(1/4 MOA) = 4/ (1/4) = 16 clicks
Example 1/10 Mil, 4/ (0.1 Mil) = 4/ (0.36) = 11.11 = 11 clicks

Next, measure the amount of up/down offset from a point 1" low on paper in inches. Multiply that number by 4 to get the equivalent distance at 100 yds to dial for your scope.

Example You are 1" high from point of aim at 25 yds. You are 2" above 1" low. Multiply 2" x 4 = 4" at 100 yds equivalent. Divide by increment of adjustment of scope (1/2 MOA is common for 1-6x24s, 1/4 MOA or 1/10 Mil are common for higher power scopes)

Example 1/2 MOA clicks, 8/(1/2 MOA) = 8/ (1/2) = 16 clicks
Example 1/4 MOA clicks, 8/(1/4 MOA) = 8/ (1/4) = 32 clicks
Example 1/10 Mil, 8/ (0.1 Mil) = 8/ (0.36) = 22.22 = 22 clicks

This will give you an in-line zero for shooting in a 100 or 200 yd zero.

Whatever distance you're zeroing the rifle for, shoot a 3 shot group at that distance. make final correction off of the center of the group.

If you wish to use a 300 yd zero, instead of trying to be 1" low at 25 yds, have point of aim equal point of impact at 25 yds.

Why do boresighters suck? No matter what you do with that boresighter, you will shoot an initial group to correct from. Use the mirror trick above to optically center the scope, then use a 12"x12" target at 25 yds. This is equivalent to shooting a 48" square target at 100 yds. If your rifle has a 20 MOA base, optically center the scope, then dial down 20 MOA (5.9 mils) before proceeding.

I was cooking on an electric stove top coil with a cast iron and the thing broke up into 5 different pieces and it was so loud I couldn't hear out of my right ear. It made a huge mess too. I am guessing there was a crack or something and the expansion of the heat caused it to blow up. It scared the **** out of me as I was not expecting my skillet to blow up while cooking.

Another time I was doing the dishes and I was washing a coffee thermos. It was one of those stanley ones. I took it out of the water and was about to sponge it out and the insides blew up while it was in my left hand. Idk what the fuk happened on that one. I think there is some sort of dual layers inside and one expanded faster than another or the other way around.

Laser is a straight line. Bullets are affected by gravity. It's cheaper and easier to shoot paper once then move the dot to the hole as an approximation.

^^^ thanks for the detailed post on sighting

The part from example is pretty much how I’ve always sighted - how I was trained as well. We had to often do some qualification with certain weapons using they 25yrd relative comparison difference.

Reminds me of an m60 target paper with multiple tiny silhouettes requiring six shots each at 25yrd I have saved in my memorbwlea pile- I aced that chit one time with a tripod.

I might have to go find it..

As far as distances...

I still have that 1 ar from kyguns [LWRC IC DI ] You showed coming in, (oddly hasn’t yet after 18 days or so now) I’m planing on moving the optic system from the 2nd sig I have coming in to it.

With that one I sight it in at one range - put tht ballistic info of rounds i’m using on my iPhone , update syncing it with gps and local weather service, type in wind, Bluetooth sync the scope with the rangefinder, and it will auto adjust the reticle bars for the range that the range finder sends it.

Allegedly....

I wanna try that thing out just cause....

I have a Romeo red dot on the 1st sig that cane in, I’m going to put a 510c holson red dot on the other one - and sight both of those at 50 yards for wife and extra family home defense guns.

I think I was gonna try the laser bore site because then just sounds completely cool and different lol.

I can pre bore sight all 3 before I even go to the range to sight then in.

Idk.

In other news

I ordered another in stock sig m400 ar 15 that has that BDX Bluetooth scope system for $1299 last night , got the rangefinder as well- and a Harris bipod.

Also a laser bore sight kit for it and the pistols.

Gonna try some stuff...
I'm not as optimistic about ammo. I don't think we can look at the shortage starting from covid lockdowns as 1 long shortage. I think they're 2 distinct, and separate shortages. The 1st shortage wasn't actually that bad, prices were inflated, and purchase limits were common. But it wasn't hard to find at all. I ordered the 5 box limit direct from Federal the whole time, every time an order got delivered, I ordered the limit again. Throughout most of this time 22lr, and 40 s&w were plentiful, and often didn't have limits.

The riot at the Capitol I believe was the start of the 2nd more severe shortage. Federal lowered their limit to 2 boxes. I continued to place an order soon as an order was received. By the 2nd time I tried, all the major calibers were out of stock at federal, and stayed that way. By this time 22lr and 40 s&w were all OOS as well, and even oddball calibers like 224 valkyrie are limited to only premium rounds in stock. The biden admin has already stated desires to ban online sales of ammo and accessories. So investing in more ammo manufacturing is more risky if online sales get banned. I talked to my LGS last week, and they're telling me distributors don't even give them a price till the deliveries show up, and at that point, it's take it or leave it.

I’m going to guess it levels out about five weeks after the next stimulus check run
Idk why people think like this. If it was that easy for manufacturers to increase production, they would do it and we would literally never have shortages. We already discussed this a couple weeks ago. Myself and another who are in manufacturing detailed this then. It requires a tremendous amount of resources, money, and overhead to increase production. It's not that easy. And no, they're not maintaining current levels simply because they're charging more. They are 100% making less money with ammo scarcity at a high cost than they would if it was plentiful at standard market rates. I guarantee it.

Not to mention they then defended hiring him and all of his statements. **** all of them. I'm pretty sure he was also present at Waco. His shooter was.
