One of my favorite books is Tales from the Stakeout Squad by Jim Cirillo. That guy was in lots of shootings and was a ballistics nut. Goes into great detail about the shootings and whether they were one shot stops or not

Apparently shooter in the PA snow debacle was a 20 year vet and engineer who had a long-running feud with this couple.

Switched the cumberbund to a Ferro Concepts Elastic one, so it holds up to 4 ar mags on each side and it's a great combo.
I'm convinced at this point they run a semi-disingenuous business. They've gone around making it seem like ceramic plates will break at the slightest touch, don't do edge protection, and are not multi hit capable. All of which are false. On top of that, the plates I ordered actually offer better protection and are far lighter. They tout their "spall coating" only make the "upgrade coating" optional and add more cost. As others have pointed out, this is kind of scummy being that this coating is supposed to protect you from getting frag to the face. There are also videos (that I'll post below) that prove this coating is not, at least in certain circumstances, very effective. Finally, the velocities listed for protection can reached by a lot of common weapons, which makes your protection a coin toss.

As for the carriers, I have veritas. Its very basic and stiff, but it does work (at least for the 3 times last year I took it out). But I think (obviously) there are better options. I'm not trying to dump anyone who owns ar500, after all I did buy them initially myself. But there are better options, especially when it comes to plates. If your carrier works for you, then awesome, keep it.

AFAIK their nylon is made in China and their plates are heavy as ****. Nobody who has done anything wearing AR500 steel wants to wear it ever again. There are just so much better options for the same price point...I'd rather have an SKD Pig package for not much more money.

I like how it notes that the shooter's obituary states "he passed away at his home."

I think the carriers are made in Taiwan. So at least they're not made by commies I guess. I own their lightest plates, the light weight swimmers cut level 3+ at 5.5lbs per plate, which wasn't horrible (yes I did run in them and do some "drills" with them). But the replacement plates are 4.1 lbs, and will protect against multiple 30.06 mild steel core jsp rounds. As opposed to the ar500 which had max velocities of 3000fps for 5.56.

OC/pepper spray is pretty much completely separate from a firearm. Or a baton. Or a knife. Those things are going to pretty much be lethal force. OC is not. OC is, totally serious, a lower level of force than shoving somebody. Literally, pushing them is a higher level of force than OC. And that makes sense. Think about it. People have been shoved, fallen, hit their head, or whatever, serious bodily harm. OC isn't seen that way. Now, check your state and local laws etc etc, but, OC is a very low level of force. It's force absolute, but it's low. That makes it a completely different tool than the others, and really opens up your options.

Remember that the vast majority of assaults are not lethal force, do not involve serious bodily harm, and do not justify lethal force in defense.

Despite what some idiots have said in here, you can't just shoot people because they pushed you. But you could OC them (unless specifically prohibited in your area)
Gotcha, thanks. Yeah I need to look into OC then. That and tactical reloading.

I was just thinking in the case of already having had to use my weapon as a backup of sorts if I hit someone 1-3x and they kept coming that it might give me something to get them off. Probably better off carrying spare mags and OC because just knowing myself and the possibility of running into a lethal encounter I'm not going to be carrying a backup firearm as a college student who can't carry half of my life anyway (campus)

If you don't want to spend a fortune you can still get decent reliable protection. Probably the most popular cost effective plates are the Hesco L210's. $370 for 2 plates.

I’ve been busy this week and kept putting off calling safelite or whoever to fix the rock chip in my windshield. Came out this morning and now it’s just cracked almost all the way across the windshield. Having the worst luck with glass this week. WTF. Probably going to drive through a plate of glass today like in Wayne’s world.

We use .67% OC, you can buy stronger on Amazon lol; switching to 1.3% or so once we use the stock we have due to guys getting sprayed so much it doesn't effect them much.

Always be aware of wind direction, and if you spray indoors it is going to get to you. Gotten used to it (******t effects) at this point, but getting a face of it still blows.

Had one fight, a one on one but they were beating the sht out of each other. I dumped an entire MK9 OC can on them, my partner used half of his, and another C/O used his whole can. They only got down because they slipped in the spray on the dayroom floor, rather than because of the actual OC.

Asked on of them after how he kept going and he told me that once the first blast hits your eyes, getting sprayed more doesn't hurt more, the damage is done, so spraying after that doesn't do much.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.

Any idea how well commercial pepper gel works? Wind isnt supposed to be as much of an issue but I haven't tried it. Bought some and then cant find it after moving.

Have that Defoor pistol class coming up. Didn’t realize I need to bring a fixed blade and trainer blade so I need to get one. He recommends these two. Which should I get? Leaning toward the Northman.

Maybe the fudds who have been going on about the supremacy of 45 are correct.
For myself, it's 50AE out of a desert eagle or nothing. And forget about the tiny 556/223 - I run 458 SOCOM all day and sleep with nods for anyone who wants to dump snow on my lawn. I purchased tons of GME and can now afford both 458 and 50 rounds without reloading!

Just found a couple boxes of 00 buck Remington 12 gauge at Sportsman's Warehouse. But it's the "Reduced Recoil" stuff. Anyone know if it will cycle a semi-auto? Ranges around here only allow slugs so I'd have to go out in the woods somewhere to test it out, if I can even find a spot.

From my experience even the reduced recoil is some hard hitting stuff. I can't imagine that it's so soft it wouldn't cycle. "Reduced" is still thumping your shoulder harder than the average bird shot.

Is it the 8 pellet stuff? It will run through my 11/87P. Barrel does have dual gas ports and I did lengthen the forcing cone.

Need to be a lot more accurate, with the spray it's a mist/spray (obviously) so pretty much point and you'll hit your target. The gel you need to actually get a face shot pretty spot on, not an easy task really, but doable. Even if you miss the eyes, it will cause coughing and irritation and still burns a lot, so it will get most people to fck off even if you don't hit the face.

Always be aware of those around, anyone in a 10 or so foot radius is going to be mad, or anyone in the room you're in.

Tasers are also a consideration, either the stun gun type, or the hand held ones that do not shoot darts. They hurt like fck and depending on strength they cause loss of motor function for a moment, which means you can egress. Just beware of the cheap ones, they just hurt a lot and will only piss an actual attacker off more.

EDIT:

Got this one for my Mom, it's reliable and you realistically wont need better than 1.3%, you can find some claiming up to 10% but I'd be warry of what actual actives they are using to reach that claim.
