The outfitters sold tags as part of a package. I didn't need to spend the two grand, I just wanted a tag. Was told no go. And communicating with some people there was tough too as they didn't understand what I wanted to do.

You got some caribou over there?

There are some hunting zones up north IIRC.

Actually I just went and checked after remembering something I saw a couple years ago. It's prohibited to hunt Caribou in QC. They have been designed as an at risk species sometime ago. When did you inquire?

I may be off, the status might have changed since.

Duck, turkey, elk, whitetail, and some large predetor. Leaning towards wolf if I can draw a tag
duck is meh. greasy as ****. wild turkey is gross. Elk and deer are goat. Why the **** you would want to eat a wolf? lol Unless you are just hunting for sport but that's a shame

Wolf and Coyote follow population cycles like most others. When the population gets too high, diseases like mange and parvo along with prey population crash (starvation) level the population. Modern wildlife management dictates that when a certain amount of a population is culled annually the remaining population is healthier, and populations remain steady. Lots of wolves? I trap wolves hard. Few wolves? I don't trap them. This maintains balance.

The hide is taken and sold, and the carcass given back to nature to provide nourishment to other scavengers and predators.

Management can be used to maintain steady populations in most animals. If done properly, healthy populations can be indefinitely maintained without population crashes of any one species

But you need shooting rights or have a land management job (farmer, gamekeeper etc etc)

If we're talking about an actual **** hits the fan scenario then I'd rather be an expert thief. Because then after you did all that hunter gatherer crap I'll come steal your stuff.

Only thing I ever killed was a small bird that kept landing on our Orange tree years ago. I attached the arrow to a rope so it didn't get out of our yard. It took several shots.

Probably dangerous to myself.

It finally went right through the bird, straight shot. I felt really bad and kind of sick to my stomach. I yanked the rope until the arrow came out, it only made it halfway through cuz it was a 20lb draw weight. I made the arrow myself in the scouts. It had a sharp tip unlike the practice arrows with a blunt tip.

I've never been hunting but I'd really like to I just don't have the means right now.

I'd probably cry once I get my first kill because I love animals but I'm a carnivore so it has to be done, and I don't feel any shame in crying for living beings. I buy whole Chicken and butcher it myself so I should go a step beyond at some point.

I also believe in using as much of it as possible, maybe not as far as the Native Americans that used even the bones somehow, but if I killed a Buck I'd use the horns and carve them into daggers. Maybe make a necklace out of them. Although on second thought I may start washing and saving the Chicken bones to make a necklace.

I will say that I did spend a decent piece of my youth huntin', fishin', and trappin. My parents are from coal country and they still have relatives there. When I was a young lad (say 8-15) I'd spend a couple of weeks at my grandparents every summer hanging out with the cousins. I knew about trappin' foxes, muskrat, ****** etc and my cousins always had deer piss and other hunting chit around. And bonus, one of their most looked to events of the summer was the pigeon shoot with real pigeons.

So I'd go with my boyos everywhere but I only hunted a few times and helped them trap a lot, but I never took to it past that. I'm all for hunting most animals though.

Should give it a shot some time if only for the long seasons...back where my folks live the archery season goes from September to damn near February. I used to pull the excuse with my wife, "sorry babe, can't do it, it's hunting season" til she figured out it's almost half the year.

Few non hunters realize that all this beautiful big game exists because of the conservation efforts of hunters. Theodore Roosevelt started it and conservationist got us to the populations and variety we have today.

Coyote population here in Kansas is the same way. If the rabbit population starts to get big, the coyote population gets big too. Coyotes eat the rabbits than the rabbit population goes down. So does the coyote population. Then the rabbit population goes up and then the coyote population goes up. I live on 40 acres and can tell the difference in the populations with the coyote scats with rabbit hair.

Bull sheet!

I live in the U.K. and have 6 shotguns and 4 rifles.

The U.K. has some of the worlds best shooting and hunting for traditional sport.

USA has amazing bud game hunting though they got some awesome species and the public land access hunting is GOAT.

Also the negative impacts of letting herbivore populations go unchecked, or the fact that a bullet/arrow through the lungs/heart is one of the most humane death an animal can get in the wild, after living a free and natural life.
