I think Samaritan's Purse is straight up, from what I can tell (our church works pretty closely with them alot).
Also Gleaning for the World, check them out, alot of stuff is donated to them so their overhead is really low.
I recently felt bad for not giving to panhandlers, knowing who is legit and who is scamming, etc., so I got an idea from a website to give to a local homeless organization who vets the people and can really help them.
You just have to research the local places of course.
There's also a place called God's Pit Crew, from what I can gather they're legit and they have an emergency response type crew who goes out after hurricanes and other natural disasters to help people clean up and rebuild.

Haha, I was thinking about mentioning that, I donate to Wounded Warrior. Not sure about their overhead, etc. but hopefully the dudes that need the help get some from them, Smile (meaning us customers) donates ALOT to their charities if Amazon isn't lying.

In general, I'm distrustful of charities and so I much prefer to do things myself instead.

Every week I volunteer at a senior's residence near me. Legit depressing stuff sometimes, I was warned by the Recreation lady about all of it. They put me on companionship duties, I play Scrabble/Chess/Trivia with them (Trivia is the most fun, these seniors MOG me with the stuff they know), I run the exercises couple times a month, and then a couple of times a year I'll put together like a big special presentation that gets a good turnout. My last one was on the inner solar system. I also do the outings now and then - a bus fills up and we hit the stores and I help them find their stuff, read things for them (lol), and generally just sort out their needs.

When COVID started the residence was closed, but I refused to abandon them all (like most of their families). Every Friday the Director emailed me shopping lists, and I quarantined everything for 3 days and dropped it all at the home for them to take, then they'd reimburse me. No refrigerated perishables allowed for quarantine purposes, of course.

I miss hanging out with them. Sarah tells me their highlights are my delivery days, all their loot that they can't get on their own is dropped off and they all stand at the entrance waving at me, etc. Apparently I'm the ONLY one who came up with an idea to keep helping out, which seemed bizarre to me because all anyone is doing is hitting stores out of boredom anyway!

I do some other stuff with local Ministries but it's pretty detached/behind the scenes work.

Funny story: during orientation, the Rec lady who hired me warned me that: young attractive men are rare in the residence so I must be prepared for sexual commentary rofl. As soon as we were done the orientation and she gave me a tour, inside the elevator three senior ladies were like "Oooh, who's this? I bet he could handle all three of us! Tee hee!"

I was like oooohhh maaaaaaan. It's all good though. We've been told not to accept gifts/payment offers for sex, etc.

Edit - I just want to add that this type of stuff has serious downsides when you get involved with people. I spend a lot of time with folks who are very old/sick, and one day I walked in and the Memorial for a lady I played Scrabble with the previous week was up. After that day I'm . . . more cautious.

I donate regularly to the org I volunteer for & to my personal friend's animal sanctuary.

I use to donate to big orgs but have focused now on my local ones.

I'm a big fan of Habitat for Humanity so I try to donate physical items to them a lot. They have great volunteer opportunities.

I love baking for Austin Bakes but they haven't had a fundraiser in a while bc of covid and such.

Every few years I'll grow my hair out & chop it all off. I've done this 3x now and working on my 4th. I go back and forth between locks of love or wigs for kids.

In 2019 I set up an auction/bazaar between my senior's residence and Habitat. All the ladies knitted scarves/sweaters/blankets, etc over the course of many months and then we had a big event where it was all sold to people and the proceeds went to Habitat.

Good quality handmade stuff by seasoned ladies from the old days, not sweatshop chit from fukkin Bangladesh. Generated a lot of money that day!

The auction was for two huge gift baskets we put together, had things like wine, cookies, soaps, etc. Just general stuff anyone can use.

This is so great! People absolutely love hand made items and will pay more for it especially if it's going to a good cause. Wish things would go back to normal so things like this can be a normal occurrence again.

My dog org's biggest fundraisers of the year are Halloween pics & Pics with santa. We set up in a corner of a Petsmart and people donate $ for digital pics of their dog. Bc of Covid it was cancelled last year and I know they've been hurting from it.

I agree about normality again. I'm a healthy grown man still socializing and living fairly normally and I'm fed up with all of this. Things need to return to normal soon for mental health, I can't even imagine how insane the seniors are going without their outside world interactions.

None. I am my own favorite charity. And most charities are marketing companies running money making scams for the senior management. Look up the executive compensation of any charity or non-profit on charity navigator dot org. I do micro charity in person with random acts of kindness. It's a disgrace. Don't be fooled.

Damn. Great colleges. I would have never guessed because you come across as very simple with a low IQ. But then you're donating money to these colleges with disgustingly huge endowments and whose executive staff and professors make exorbitant salaries and get rich all while they charge exorbitant tuition rates driving up student debt while you foolishly give them more money. Cuck.

There's a regional children's shelter I'm involved with that I give regularly to. I also really like Save Women's Sports and Communities in Schools.Why so prickly? It's his money.

I don't give money to charities.

I have given my time to various organizations in my neighborhood in the past.

I give boxes of non perishables to the local food bank.

I give clothes and other items I don't wear or use anymore, that are still in good condition.

I buy meals for homeless people and chat with them, when I have the time.

I only give out money to my family overseas, and if a loved one here needs it.

I will eventually donate to local charities if I know for sure the money will be put to good use. I'm talking show me a plan of what you will do with the money and you better believe I will come check up on it. I'm thinking animal shelters and the community center.
