The reason they do this is that it actually allows them them to render much larger (flat) pictures from them once they send the fisheye pics back. They can get pics like 20,000x20,000 pixels from it or something insane.

Everything I've seen from Mars indicates its a barren, lifeless wasteland. Disappointing.


I'm guessing once we have the ability to go below the surface they may find items worth mining. But maybe not.

I'm guessing once we have the ability to go below the surface they may find items worth mining. But maybe not.
If I'm not mistaken this rover has the capability to take subterranean samples, which was why they landed it by the Jezero crater cause they think it once held water

Problem is there will have to be another mission to recover the samples

Isn't this the one that is suppose to send back samples? Insanity that they might send people there soon. What is a person going to do that a modern robot can't? Except die of course. Crazy to think that you could walk around some parts of mars with a t-shirt and shorts with just a respirator. Take it off and hold your breath. Not enough oxygen to let you last very long but it could be done.

Crazy to thing about it but terraforming might really happen there. I often wonder what it will look like 1K years from now.

They can but it take days/weeks to transmit HQ pics back to earth, so they usually send the potato pics back fast to see if there was something worth analyzing in the pic. Then they send a HQ one back if needed.

NASA is an embarrassment. It took them 8 years to land another rover which is basically identical in design to the previous one. Musk is our only hope to really explore Mars.
