I nuked an 8yo account, I was down to just podcast and local city subreddits but my time per day there was basically zilch.

Last straw was reading someone go on a page long rant in a local city sub about a local business (who I know) who had a rainbow flag he was given behind the counter which triggered them. The 'activist' cornered the owner and demanded concrete evidence on what they have done to support the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, and when they didn't get what they needed they started to organize a boycott, petition, and protestors because of this small businesses 'performative allyship' and the harm people like them cause the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community.

Between that and the blatant chinese sockpuppets astroturfing on every Canadian subreddit I had enough.

Admins are employees, Mods are community members who volunteer. The default subs (and most of the large non-default) are now all controlled corporately, with mods primarily installed by admins to maintain the party line.

And there was a cool part of reddit for a time circa 2011-2013 or so. It was late 2014 to summer of 2015 ramping up to the election that between CTR and MAGA the default subs became unreadable.

For a while you could do what we do here, stay off the front page genpop and hide in your subreddits, but they all slowly went the same way.

If they take over r/CrossStitch I swear to God there will be hell to pay. Even then we can't just stab things with tiny needles over and over again, we have to have a sidebar with BLM. So absurd.

Its been pretty sanitized since then, I followed pretty close when it came out.

The u/maxwellhill account lost a bunch of posts over a few days, the ones people dug up with u/maxwellhill talking about living in England or about being born on Christmas were gone minutes after they were linked.

Then the worldnews articles posted about global population control, eugenics, articles excusing p3d0fila. You saw a pretty twisted narrative she was trying to push the few days you could see the posting style in context. People had been complaining for years about Epstein stories being immediately scrubbed with no rule violations.

Some people were deep in it, and could identify breaks in the accounts posting that lined up date for date with times she was traveling. That and the fact that the most prolific and consistent poster and highest karma account over 14 years vanished the day she was arrested never to be hard from again.

The outgoing reddit CEO even recognized her.
