What’s the last movie you saw that LIVED UP TO THE HYPE?

A movie that you’ve been putting off for a while. But always heard it’s good. Then you finally watched it and you were like “oh damn. That actually was really good.”

I FINALLY watched Memento for the first time last night and really liked it. All my friends told me it’s really good and they think I would like it. But I just never cared enough to sit down and see it. I’m glad I finally did.

I went to see Joker at the movies and was quite impressed by the film, the hype behind it was insane so I knew it couldn’t live up to it but it was a very good film in my opinion.

I watched Taxi Driver a few years ago on Netflix because I heard it was a good classic film, I really liked it and I felt it’s hype was warranted.

Blade Runner 2049

Amazing story, great action, and fantastic cinematography. The director won Director of the Decade after that movie, and it was well deserved. It was better than the original IMO

Joker was a good choice. I felt it lived up the the hype. Amazing performance by Phoenix.

Horror universe touted Hereditary as one of the best horror movies, and I felt that lived up to it as well.

Wasn't really hyped but I thought Godzilla vs. Kong exceeded expectations.

Joker, agreed...the acting was phenomenal! Really enjoyed his performance.

Shutter Island was really good for me, watched it more than once...no clue what was going on the first time I saw it, good twists.

Original black and white version of It's a Wonderful Life.

Watched it for the first time last Christmas, and it was fantastic. Easily see why it's a staple every year around the holidays.

Started this last night. Agreed. Synder cut is way better just 5 min in and I'm not even finished with it.

I'd say Parasite didn't have a lot of hype initially, but had great reviews and I loved it. Lived up to the reviews at least.

The Revenant was another that was highly hyped.

TBH it's more of a cult classic and its the first movie explore the cyberpunk genre. I also grew up with it so there's a nostalgia element to that too.

Watch 2049, even if you hate the original. It's widely agreed upon (even by fans) to be superior (which may not be a high bar for you). You'll like it

Damn I need to rewatch 2049.
I recently rewatched it. I particularly liked the desert scenes of which I assume was Las Vegas.

Cyberpunk as a genre wasn't even a thing until the 1960s

You just busted out with a 1920s silent black and white movie that is definitely Cyberpunk (from what I can google lol, definitely wasn't aware of it before now). Whatever that movie is, sounds like it was ahead of its time

Yeah, the irradiated desert was some of the best shots in the movie. I liked that this movie took the time to let you soak the environment.

Saw The Wolf of Wall Street in January. Really had no idea what I was getting into and was surprised how it just kept getting more and more ridiculous.

This isnt the last one, but Mission Impossible Fallout blew me away. palms were sweating durring the helicopter scene

Action movies are prtty much extinct but thats a perfect example of how to make one

Koreans are the GOAT entertainers. There is a Korean show on Netflix called Sisyphus, 10/10 show.

2049 was pretty a lot of the time, but the movie did very little to continue the story from the first movie and explore the world it created. It just feels like it has no reason to exist. Performance wise, Leto was dreadful. He acted like he was on a stage speaking out to a crowd of thousands whenever he spoke. He just sucked all the air out of the room whenever he was on screen. Hans Zimmer's music was a dud, and the music was a big part of the feel of the world in the original. Speaking of the world, I hate how you never get a good feel for the scope of the world. All the establishing shots are so zoomed in and too close, so you feel very unsure of where you are in context of everything -- the buildings, city, and more. Overlooking a lot of that, worst of all, the film just has very little replay value. Most scenes feel tedious and dispensable watching them again.
