You think boomers had those opportunities

Fast forward 80 years and millennials will be the richest generation alive and whatever upstart under 30s will be whining about how hard they have it.

Probably because all the people who have unemployable degrees are now doing data entry or working at Starbucks, so the precedent has been set

I'm making $70/hr and don't even have a degree (srs)

Baby boomers are like 60 years old and up. Of course they have the most wealth because they are old as fuk and already earned a lifetime of income. Also their parents already died and left then their wealth as inheritance.

When those old fuks eventually die, most of that wealth will be transferred to the younger generations who will inherit it and become the new baby boomers.

upper level educated STEM folks nowadays live a 100 times better life than boomers did. If you make 90K in computer engineering and your wife makes 70K a year in nursing and you're making 160K as a household... you're likely living in a 3000 square foot house with 3 huge screen TVs, driving 2 cars that basically have advanced computers inside of them, going on vacations 3 times a year, etc.... etc...

the middle class in america is getting fukked - the people in that medium percentile (say 80% of income earners) are living a pretty sh*tty lifestyle but the top 10-20% is living better than any other generation in history of world
Yes, but you threw in dual income vs. single earner.

True. Costs a fortune and you have to spend down your own assets before Medicaid begins.

Yes.

I was getting paid $8 an hour working a regular retail job in my early 20s. Would be $14.78 an hour now per inflation calculator.

There's a couple reasons why boomers have it good covered that were covered earlier ITT, but here's one I think really deserves emphasis.

The American economy stalled out after the 2008 crash and has never recovered to this day. What boomers have been doing for the last 12 years is borrowing money via QE to pump their assets at future Americans' expense.

Blue is the M2 money supply, red is the S&P 500.
Spoiler!

S&P 500 divided by money supply really shows it. If you draw a line through the bottom of the dotcom bubble, there is pretty much a quarter-century of steady growth from 1982 to 2006, then chit crashed and we've been spinning our wheels at or below 2002 levels since.
Spoiler!

As to why the economy's stopped growing, I'm just going to say globalization and automation.

I've accepted that in most areas I'd want to live in, my first house/condo will probably be $250k-400k. Meaning I'll need $50k-80k down to bypass PMI.

I've also accepted my current income being $110k (gross, after bonuses + OT) is allegedly sufficient for a $550k+ mortgage based on Nerdwallet (sauce:https://www.nerdwallet.com/mortgages...-affordability).

I think that these numbers kind of counter what the OP says, given I'm a 26 yrs old millennial (gen Z?).

Eventually up and coming places will be hip and rad, and way cheaper to live in. The most populated states are also the most expensive and most "moved out of" states in the country. I have more money than my parents did when they bought a house and it's not enough with this current market.

You see the answer every day on the misc.

Everyone I grew up with’s parents were tradies or salesmen. Lower middle class area, resource economy. Guess what like 80% of their kids did? Went to ****ing college to ge BAs in BS. What jobs were they thinking they’d get? None stayed around and all struggle like hell to live in the nearby big cities while working basic service jobs. No one wants to work with their body anymore. I have two openings right now for $50/hr and can’t find a non drug addicted qualified person. The jobs starts at 6 am and requires 12 hr days and millennials want nothing to do with it. I’m 15 years younger than the second youngest guy on the crew. I’ll be working by myself in a couple years. Where are all these computer programmers gonna live when no one wants to work to get the logs to build the houses? You think computer engineer wages will stay high when every single teenager is signing up for it? Who was supply and demand?

Don't feel like a 1%er at all. In fact if I put $110k gross into a calculator for 2019 household incomes for USA, I'd actually be a 17%er. I'm only a ~1%er if you solely look at age alone. Know plenty of folks my age that are $150k+ gross. Those guys are the true 1%ers lol.

Yeah - it really is one of the most impressive republican accomplishments of the past 30 years: the fact that so many of them are convinced that the best thing that could be done for them is reducing taxes on the rich. A simple correlation chart will show that trickle down economics hasn't worked, as there has been an inverse correlation between taxes on rich and wages.

Literally all they need to do is change section 1 of the Internal Revenue Code to add a few more marginal tax rates for ordinary and capital gains income. Very easy and no way to avoid it other than make less money - obviously ppl aren't going to stop making money because they will have to pay a little more in taxes.

On the other side of the coin though, you have retarded dems who are like "our benevolent leaders Obama and Biden are fighting for us the working class" meanwhile Biden and Obama only did (or proposed) slight tax raises on the upper-middle class and the ultra wealthy are still taxed at historically low rates.

Older generations also getting older and younger generations inheriting at a much older age.

But of course the media know the true cause:

Inb4 Analchron bringing no arguments.
The graphics are stats posted here are telling you what you think they're telling you.....

And this is one of many problems with western nations.....illiteracy of STEM within the general population.

What these graphics are ACTUALLY showing is the catastrophic effects of immigration and leftist policies - in conjunction with The FED and central banks keeping interest rates artificially low to recover from the 2008 collapse and to try and grow the economy.

Honestly - the FED policies are the SMALLER contributing factor compared to mass immigration, especially from the 3rd world. But old traditional boomer conservatives (George Bush era) AND DEMOCRATS love IT because it keeps the supply of cheap labor infinite and drives the cost of labor down, and in exchange democrats get replace the population that would never agree with the extremest leftist policies with a population of idiotic 3rd world people who just want to vote themselves more money / benefits / welfare....because why the phuck wouldn't they vote themselves free chit....they didn't build the country, they don't have a stake in the future, they just want to loot what they can.

The reason house prices spiked is the same - FOREIGN ASSESTS are leaving leftist / communist hellholes like China / Russia / Venezuela / and they are parking their money in US Real Estate both for an investment, and a backdoor way to get their children in the US, into the school systems, and on the path for green cards.

College isn't even worth talking about - it's a complete scam unless you are going after a legitimate professional degree - Accounting, Law, STEM, medicine etc - WHICH MOST PEOPLE AREN'T, and most people aren't capable of. College is now primarily a mechanism for kids to delay adulthood by another 4 years and party, because otherwise they'll have to work and make some hard choices. So they CHOOSE to take out loans for worthless "education". Girls are now the majority of college students, they hold the majority of debt, and girls get nearly all of the useless degrees, which are all in feminine "social science" fields which are complete BS, feelings based, and have no career trajectory, hence why they end up working retail or Starbucks or trying to be "IG models". This is always why even beta incels aren't going to marry these girls.

However, this isn't all the fault of "society" or external forces. For sure the biggest problem is immigrants. But younger Americans are also insanely lazy. Sitting around playing video games, surfing the net, jerking it to porn, watching endless superhero movies, endless Netflix - spending no time in competitive pursuits with other men, no time in intellectual pursuits, no time in physical competition (MMA, Football, Baseball etc), and no time with any kind of physical / manual skills / labor. Then you all wonder why you are smoked by Chang or ****** These 3rd world Chang's and ****** are moving to America at 21 years old, finishing their masters in a STEM field by 23, and making $100 - 200k before the end of their 20's. They buy Million $ homes, and have kids, and live the America dream. THEY ARE WORKING HARDER BECAUSE THEY COME FROM CHITHOLE COUNTIRES. While Americans get fat and complain on social media how unfair it all is.

Plenty of blame to go around. But that would actually mean taking some accountability as a man for why you ain't chit. It's easier to blame others, Amirite?

To a certain degree it is. If you took people from the silent generation that actually survived the great depression they wouldn't be in such dire economic condition. A lot of it is work ethic and how badly you want it. You can make 80k a year in Chicago driving a garbage truck. Nobody wants to do it. There's a lot of high paying jobs millennials will not do. zYou should read the War on Normal People by Andrew Yang. I'm not a fan of Yang, but his diagnosis about the economic composition of the U.S. is accurate. And Yes the demographic that are doing the best are Jews, Upper Class Whites, Asians, and minority of the Black and Hispanic population(Highly Educated), however, people of all races from middle class to lower class are really struggling.

We def don't live like that anymore. Maybe it wouldn't even make a difference, maybe it would have. But I think we spoil ourselves and we spoil our kids. My coworker was offered a promotion, 20k more but he would have to stay until 2:30pm. Turned it down, he has to pick up his kid from school. He's 10. My mom and dad would have never turned that down. When I was 8 I made lunch for my brother, sister and the kid who lived downstairs.

Housing prices are currently out of control. They were high to begin with, prior to whatever's going on right now, but they're absolutely insane now. A $200k house is now $350k and rising in all the markets I was looking at. I have money saved up, but I just can't bring myself to pay that much more for the same thing for god knows what reason.

And someone mentioned absolute scarcity on the first page. There's no scarcity of land in most of the US. I'm looking at outer outer suburbs and rural areas. There's a ton of unused land.

If you can wait a few yeas for them to start hiking interest rates you'll be golden so many IDOITS are going to be under water SRS. will be so many houses on the market for CHEAP af. PRIME time to invest.

In some ways I'd just buy now so you don't get stuck paying like a 8% interest rate later though SRS.

I hope so, I'm just worried about inflation. I was ready to buy when the fake pandemic started.
