Betting on horses CREW
Recently took up the hobby of handicapping thoroughbred racing after getting $1k of freeplay. I DGAF about any ball sports, so figured I'd burn up the freeplay on horses.
Prior to this, I didnt realize there is an entire world of people who analyze races/trainers/horses/conditions and bet accordingly.
After some beginner luck, and silly failures, I'm enjoying tf out of it LMAO.
Pretty much dead even on my bets so far after Kentucky Derby & Preakness.
Belmont coming up so thought I'd make a thread to see if any other miscers screw around with this. I found a couple misc bettors with my other threads on previous race days.
May consider dumping significantly more money into the account if my enjoyment grows, and I have some sign of luck with it.
Funny degenerate quote from the book "Picking Winners"

Funny degenerate quote from the book "Picking Winners"
A friend of mine from Boston was obsessed by playing the horses. He would awaken at dawn so he could study the races all morning, spend the afternoon at the track, and devote his evening to a stack of yellowing Racing Forms, searching for new handicapping techniques. He didn't have much money but his life was a joy. Every day was a new challenge, a new adventure. My friend didn't think there was anything abnormal about his passion. "I am thankful," he said once, "that God gave me the capacity to enjoy. And let's face it: there's nothing more enjoyable than gambling."
The capacity to enjoy: so few people have it. Most citizens live lives of such routine and drudgery and are so concerned about security that they cannot imagine how delicious uncertainty is. A gambler may have as many periods of pain and frustration as he does of exhilaration, but at least he knows he's alive.

I haven't held a job for 3 years and have bet on horses 7 days a week in that time. I live in Australia so only bet exclusively on Aus/NZ racing.
It's been a journey and I've learned a lot about form gradually. I've managed to grind out a liveable income but holy chit it can be rough. The amount of close nuttings I've had in a row in one day for big money has made me think I'm literally cursed at times.

I used to play online poker tournaments and the endless downswings/upswings made you question if math is even real. It can be brutal, but that's what makes it fun AF when you hit that heater.

right now I like Hot Rod Charlie and Known Agenda from the current money-line value.
Looks like Essential Quality will be a big favorite, so I'd have to make some exotic bets with Charlie/Agenda/Essential to get max value.

Some of those stables are cleaner and better serviced than my home, and I'm not even joking.

how would I get started on this? I've used mybookie and barstool to bet NBA, NFL and NHL games/parlays before.
Do you normally pick a few horses throw some money at each?

My family always gambles on the triple crown races, and I like going to races in person occasionally.
I don't gamble seriously, though. Sometimes I have tried to do a little research and make informed bets. But these last two triple crown races I've gone with a moderate long shot that I thought had a cool name... And I've picked the winner both times. Pretty funny.

Lol in I bet on horses or greyhounds on Unibet sometimes for the lols. Legit don't know what's going on, but I've won a few times now. The bets sometimes just don't make sense. They are sometimes so far apart

Santa Anita, Race #7.
#1 for straight win
#1/#6 exacta box'd.
Tiny bet, spent 15 minutes researching the horses in this race.

Just nailed my first exacta for a $20 score on the Daytona Stakes race @ Santa Anita.
Feels good lol, but immediately I start to consider other ways I could have distributed my bet to maximize the gainz.
I have another $20 spread over Santa Anita race #7 and race #8.
Fun af, and literally like no money to me, but I enjoy it on a saturday too much lmao

Today we got the Summertime Oaks.
I'm looking to center #3 as my underdog bet, and combine an exacta bet with #2.
