Do you think humans are inherently good or bad?

And why? Curious.

Maybe cos if you feel happy you want others to feel happy too, no? The only time normal people want harm to others is when they are themselves miserable, so I would say yes we are inherently good.

I guess I'd err towards bad?

I think people are mostly selfish, which I'd say rounds off to bad, but I think cooperative behavior is often the best decision for an individual, so people often help others (i.e. act good) despite their true imperatives.

Neutral. Most people linger in the middle of the spectrum, some are bad, and some are good. An equal distribution like in everything in life.

If majority of people were good, you wouldn’t have people dying from hunger or lack of shelter, you simply wouldn’t. In fact the entire world would be extremely different.
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

We're capable of being good toward those who we somewhat give two chits bout.

Otherwise, most of us really don't care even when something terrible happens to others (for the most part).

Humans are neither inherently good nor bad. Good or bad in itself is a man-made construct, to attempt to describe morality.

Humans are self absorbed consumers. They would ruin numerous families for the sake of their own family. As well as other species and environment.

They are neither.

They can chose which side, the animalistic one which makes us slaves to our instincts (Lust, addiction, Yolo) or we chose the side of God, love, empathy and just all round awesomeness. I know atheist will disagree and thats fine but there is a huge difference between animals and humans.

Animals still haven't created something as beautiful as the Sagrada Familia or music like Beethoven or Mozart.

Don't let the cultural Marxists fool you, Humans are sacred, it up to us which path we chose. We are created in Gods image and while will never be perfect we have the ability to do amazing things. It is God that gives us our humanity which is why Marxists are so intent on destroying God.

Yeah because if you accidentally end up benefiting when your friend was trying to hurt you, you can't really say the friend is good.

Or if someone tries to save a kid from a burning building but accidentally ends up killing the kid, he's not really a bad person.

I'd say intent. I tend to see the glass half full and believe that if we all had the resources to be a good person, then the choice is easy - nature vs nuture comes into play too though. I've been watching a lot of crime documentaries and the news a little too often lately, hence this thread. If there are truly evil people in this world, I wonder if there's some sort of chemical imbalance in their brain? Human behavior is just so interesting.

PS - pls don't bring my occupation into this, like you always do for some reason lol

I don’t think you can completely separate intent from outcomes. How often do you hear some variant of “I was just trying to help” or “he/she meant well” when someone does something that has a clearly negative impact on others?

I think we are inherently self-interested, and just fortunate that actions that benefit others typically also benefit ourselves (even if it just makes us feel good).

This question can never be answered as everyone's personal experience would cloud the answer. Surveying also would not properly describe the nature of humans.

At any rate, we have not gone extinct yet which leads me to believe there is more "good" than "evil" in this world.

Did Heath Ledger’s Joker not teach you guys anything? Humans are only as good as society’s circumstances allow them to be.

Everyone likes to think if they lived in 1930’s-40’s Germany they’d be the ones to free some of the Jews and stand up against Hitler. When in reality the statistical likelihood that you’d do that is almost zero. You’d keep your mouth shut to keep you and your family alive.

Think about the atrocious acts you’d commit against your own neighbors if society had a financial collapse and there was a food shortage and you had to murder your friends so your family doesn’t starve to death. A lot of people have no idea of the evil they are capable of if sh!t really hits the fan. The things you will do to survive are almost unthinkable.

People are selfish and are driven to pursue pleasure, which ever way possible.

Only the most advanced beings are not selfish like this.

human beings are like most higher animals essentially tribal , starting from their own immediate family --> wider family---Social Groups--->larger scale ethnically

when chit hits the fan self and immediate family take priority over all
