So I had this conversation with a girl about the recent Blizzard scandal. If you don't know, a girl had a relationship with her manager there, and then the manager shared her nudes at work and made fun of her. She killed herself. There were also several instances of drinking at the workplace and inappropriate groping. There are also allegations of wage discrimination and inappropriate comments to women. The state of California is now suing them.

Anyway, girl was mad that Ion, the game director of WoW had not made any statement via email or twitter about it. I said he shouldn't have to. It's a company of 4700 people. He probably had nothing to do with it and wishes to not comment. She was furious. Her pov is that he is obligated to say something.

I contended that people have the right not to be activists if they do not want to, and it turned into a back and forth where I basically said she's trying to basically force this guy to take a political position. She got angry and said oh I guess the abuse of women is political now?! Then she said this conversation is over and went back to playing FF.

Who is right? If some scandal happens at your company, and you had nothing to do with it, should you be expected to make a statement? I don't think you should be required or expected to. It's fine if you want to do that, but not everyone is an activist nor should they be expected to be one.

To me it is similar to the right not to incriminate yourself.

Yes.

Imagine a minimum wage worker for Coca Cola is caught on video doing something shameful while associating the company.

The company would need to make a statement.

The company but not every individual high up guy right? To single out one highly visible person is a bit dishonest right?

Blizzard did put out a statement. And ofc it was ridiculed. The CEO literally used this sentence:
"Stepping back — when I talked with Bobby [Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard — Ed.] about taking this job, one of the first things I mentioned was a revered saint of the Brack household — Gloria Steinem. “Growing up, the value of women as equals, understanding the work that had been done for equal treatment, and the fact that there was still much to do, were common themes.”
Just fukken lmao. This is why u don't make any statement. Just keep ur fukkin mouth shut imo.

Usually in legal matters, it's best for people to keep silent before it's resolved. Any comment made could potentially be used against you. If that person made a comment, some could possibly assume he's guilty even if he had nothing to do with the case.

With legal stuff, you never really want to speak unless you have to, and even then the bare minimum should suffice.

Am I reading that the person who sets strategy and personality for the company and allows certain behaviours, by policy or example, has not made a statement about abusive management practices covering inappropriate workplace relationships, gender bias and discrimination and work humiliation

At any rate it's retarded people DEMAND those half-witted copypasta statements companies make in these cases

"We at ______ do not condone these actions; they are not in line with our company values. We will begin rigorously training our employees on the matter to which we are being scrutinized. Our #ThoughtsAndPrayers are with the families. #BLM #OJDinduNuffin #GayPride2021"

it's like a half-assed bull**** apology is A-OK with them, afterall.

He did. The CEO did. But this is a lowly game director.

I just don't think an employee ought to feel compelled to be part of any activism of any kind, for or against his company. If they want to, they can. But to demand they go on twitter or send emails and be activists over a cause is to forcibly use their position as a mouthpiece of an agenda. It's like if someone chooses to kneel during the anthem. That is their choice. But if someone doesn't kneel, they ought not be hated for it. It's a personal choice whether one seeks to engage in activism or not.

Well, if you want to look for the root of the problem, I think they messed up putting these two together at all.

This is more about like the right to avoid activism or "with us or against us" campaigns. Basically, an unrelated employee to the scandal ought to be free to just stay out of it and sau "Don't look at me man, I just work here."

As with any company that has a legitimate amount of employees, there are lawyers employed that would be discussing this with any potential company officers. The message would then be trickled down to lower level managers. This would be considered an official position, statement from the company. Any manager asked to comment prior to this official statement should contact their higher ups and/or HR possibly legal team.

Yeah but public activists then get angry and scapegoat the employees who don't "speak out". I understand the outrage, and if someone wants to speak out that is fine and should be commended. But a lot of people feel they have nothing to do with it and would rather not comment since whatever they say can jeopardize their livelihoods.

I just don't see the ethics of demanding everyone jump on the bandwagon and condemn chit. And I don't appreciate being treated like I am defending the abusers simply for defending potentially innocent people from being compelled to risk their jobs over someone else's political activism. I find that to be a gross violation that can lead to "all or nothing" "with us or against us" radical thinking that only hurts the movement in the end.

Public activists are going to do what they always do, be loud, spoken and get as much attention. It is literally what they do regardless of what they are rallying around. Have you never seen videos of activists in places like Walmart, Amazon warehouses etc calling out managers? Those managers have nothing to do with corporate policies being created but the activists see them as faces of the company.

Anyone working for a large company is not going to get involved especially if they are in management regardless of their own position. They have their own social platforms to voice their own beliefs but to bring the company they work for name into it is asking for trouble. More or likely, they signed a contract going over company expectations. This would include media platforms etc and their use.

And an activist is not going to care that they cannot comment, as I said they see them as the face.

Well it's dumb af to misdirect ur rage at ppl who have zero to do with the problem.

These same ppl often cry about racism or sexism while not realizing they are doing the same kind of generalizing.

On a side note, it's especially frustrating when arguing with women because no matter how retarded and incredibly incompetent the woman is at basic chit like elementary math, she will still think she is right and smarter than you. It's so dumb.

First in bold, this is a main reason why voting Dem just to vote Dem is incredibly stupid which I bet you do. Many dems are some of the most bigoted and prejudiced people. “But the party stands up for everyone” even though they don’t actually. Vote for who is the best candidate regardless of party.

In regards to the women, if you want to get laid pretend she is right. Or next time, don’t choose a dumb broad. I only got married because I met the one woman who was as smart as me and didn’t need to show it. 1/1000000 for sure.

Yea no. I voted dem over specific geopolitical and scientific reasons. And everyone knows my #1 choice was Tulsi.

She's married and I'm not into her. She's my online friend from wow, but she's an extreme sjw and always has this radical mentality. Just can't win arguments with women dude. It's literally impossible.
