Woodworking misc (doll house build inside)

I have had a request to show more of my woodworking so here is a dolls house I made.

TLDR: here is the finished product:

I followed a 1930's design, with a few tweaks (mistakes) from Popular Mechanics:



I always have alot of offcuts left over from other projects so the base is 20mm flooring ply and the rest is 12mm.
The circles were cut on the scroll saw and cleaned up with the disc sander.

Top floor and ceiling



For the windows I used 5 mm acrylic sheet. The frame was made by ripping the 'groove' of some 10mm tounge and groove paneling, and it all pushes together snuggly



With the walls and floor cut out it's time to prime everything.



Then nail/glue the wall sections and paint the interior.



Whenever I work on something in the garage the little bros are not far behind



With the floor and permanent walls in place it's time to lay the flooring.

The kitchen dining room has Rimu hard wood flooring. This was ripped down from an old door jam out of a demolition house, the house was over 100 years old. I could buy Rimu timber milled today, but the grain and character just can't compare to the old heartwood from a 100 yo+ tree. Plus this was free.



In the grand room I wanted the black and white tiles to look sharp and clean - sharper than I could paint with a brush.

I painted 2 x 3M lengths of 30x10 pine moulding, one white and one black, then cut them into squares and glued them on individually - this was alot more work than painting but I was happy with the result!



Felt carpet flooring laid in the upstairs bedroom, and exterior painting well on the way its time for the curved windows. I used polycarbonate sheet for this, it was very tricky.

Just for fun. This was a christmas present for some family friends of ours. I have 2 boys and they have 2 girls, it's fun to make girls toys for once. I'm used to everything army or fire service and they are into barbies and mypets (?) I don't even know lol.

Lumber price has been high. I use as much recycled timber as I can get.

I helped my son make this bird house for a school project. Again we used offcuts, the ply is curved like that because my mate had them cut to the door pattern of one of his classic cars.. I dunno why, but I took it when it was offered!

Thanks brah. To be honest its the same with me - I don't really appreciate the time together either, until I sit down and think about it. I couldn't keep them away from the workshop if I tried, but you can imagine it's hard to concentrate with the distractions.

It's pretty special, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Very cool brah! I have old done a few woodworking projects but it's so satisfying. I made our daughters bed and every time my wife has a new friend over and gives them the tour I ALWAYS hear her telling them that I made it, das fukken it.

Do you do this for money or just a hobby/skill?

Dasit mane! Wood working can be for everyone, just start off small with easy projects and work your way up. Making something functional is very satisfying.

It's just a hobby for me. If I did it as a job I probably wouldn't enjoy it.

Yeah, fair enough man. I'm luck enough to have the space to store all the tools and materials long term.

The hours add up fast. At a guess 20-30 hours spent in the shop, maybe more.

Oh chit Jandels, I didn't even notice some of the small furniture you made last night, like the couches, table, bed bookshelves, etc.

I used to live a few blocks from this dollhouse store, and would would walk the dog past it every now and then. Had some really cool dollhouses. But anyways, check out their etsy store and see how much they charge for all the little furniture pieces and what not. Some of them get really expensive real quickly.
