Yes it's 100% true in the AVERAGE case. Obviously extremely attractive young guys will do better than all other men, but these are so rare as to be irrelevant.
I don't use apps to date anymore, just to browse when bored. I swipe right on perhaps the top 5% of attractive profiles, and get matches on 95%. Maybe 30% of those message me first. Many straight up ask for sex. 100s of messages a week that I never reply to. It's to the point now that I'm surprised when I don't get a match, or when someone doesn't msg me.
This is compared to my youth when I was objectively better looking and more successful for my age, I'd get matches on maybe 20%, perhaps 5% would message first, and I never got immediately asked to bang.
There are very simple reasons for this, if you just think about it for 30 seconds.

While I was in my early 30's bouncing at a popular bar, I was cold approached and had maintained eye contact from women anywhere from low 20's to high 30's (most were sober, lol). I'm also 6'4" and in good shape.
I'm 35 now, but I'm not delusional. I would probably have a very hard time pulling that off with women in their early 20's outside of that setting. Keep in mind that maintaining good hygiene, staying in shape and having at least a semi respectable attire is huge for your 30's. I see so many people near my age that let themselves go and look like trash. I'd argue that at least being in good shape puts you in a high percentile.

There is a subset of women that are always going to be attracted to older men as a sort of daddy figure.
