“Money can’t buy happiness” = pure cope

Here are some ways that money buys happiness:

1) your job. Even if you’re still working the knowledge that you could get fired at any time and still be fine changes how you view work and interact with management. No more bootlicking or ass kissing. This is a big one because for many people this accounts for 1/2 their waking hours or more.

2) your home. You live in a better neighbourhood. Wealthy professionals with well-kept houses and low crime. Probably don’t need to worry about locking your doors.

3) relationships. Many relationships disputes are about money. Those largely go away once everything is taken care of financially. More generally conversations with your friends and broader social circle will be about meaningful topics and not, for example, ivermectin conspiracies

4) outsourcing of crappy tasks. Laundry, non-fun car maintenance, cleaning etc is all some other plebs problem

5) school districts. No need to worry about kids slacking off or getting in with a bad crowd. There aren’t any.

On a day to day basis having money improves a persons life in so many ways.

People who claim money won’t buy happiness probably don’t have any (money that is)

What is happiness if not general satisfaction with ones life?

A few prominent exceptions does not disprove a general rule

Also if they’re depressed how do you think they’d handle being poor?

hmmm disagree with 3 and 5. maybe agree with 3 if you're not reaching your potential but... you could make all the money in the world and still not buy everything. so if your relationship problems are due to money - assuming you mean you don't make enough (And not that you can't pay your bills) then that's a chitty relationship

further, i was in a rich school from 6th through 12th grade. there may not be the hoodlums (def. not as many) but there are still druggies you could get dragged into

I think happiness is just a feeling or a way of being. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the outside world, same with depression. There's people living in mudhuts in Africa happier than any miscer. And we're all CEOs making 10k/day.

I'd say a lot of people who are self-made millionaires are more likely to be happy, because the tactics they utilized to achieve their wealth make them happy / motivated. Chicken or egg scenario, almost.

From someone who has been on both sides (literally $0 in the bank, to 6 figures balling), enough money brings you to a certain point, but past a certain point, it makes you very unhappy, because you don't get lots of money sitting down and doing nothing. 6 figures balling often involves a lot of pressure to perform, taking a lot of risk, and constantly thinking of work, regardless if you run your own business, or are just an employee. Then you get unhappy that you're getting so much pressure, and can't afford the finer things in life, so you push harder, and end up even worse. When they're paying you 200k a year, they want a unicorn, they want you to eat chit and chit tiffany cufflinks. 200k means they can buy 4 new Mercedes is cash, you'd better fukking perform, and not just once or twice, but in every single thing you touch. I've been chewed out in front of all my staff (20+ people) for getting a number wrong (round up instead of round down, on a billion dollar figure, ie. 0.0000000001% discrepancy), and it was fukking humiliating. Suppliers, customers, other directors, other managers, everyone is out for your blood, because it'll help them perform better and look better. You get no allies at all once you reach that level, everyone is an enemy.

I deal with a lot of rich kunts, and very very few of them are happy. Most are angry and miserable, at their employees, at the government, at their family, at life, etc. The pressure is extreme, and most ballers have to go through that. Look at Jeff Bezos, he's so salty about Elon being the cool kid, he's suing NASA, max insecurity. Elon isn't that happy or great at all, if you look at his life even a bit closer.

No money sucks too, but I don't need to explain why.

The happiest people I've seen are just middle of the road non-managerial employees just cruising through their day. Tradies are some of the happiest till they fuk up their bodies, then they turn into one of the most miserable kunts ever - That's something no one ever talks about, bad health impacts your mood as much as money, often even more. Not talking about cancer and chit, but a simple thing like a bad back, busted knees/shoulders make people fukking miserable.

Lol I got a double door full size fridge it's just tiny and like 11 cuf or something. I don't have room for a bigger one but I am gonna replace it with a newer one soon. A new fridge also doesn't = happiness. I just put the slices in my GLASS pyrex containers and it was fine just doing the thread for the LOLz.

I respect your hustle man - i'm also about that bank and i was known around my area as a bit of a money maker, but all that changed when i fell in love and realised that love is the best feeling and what i have always been chasing, although in a corrupt way.

Once that love comes from within, you cannot even differentiate whether you're rich or poor unless you compare, but that shouldn't be an issue if you're working on your self, spiritually.

Made a thread about it. Money does not make you happy. Not having enough is not good, but the ability to 'buy' stuff does not yield sustained happiness.

Cribbs Very successful early in life. In late 20's I was flying helicopters in and out of my home which was approx 9000sf on 3 acres.

Almost killed in 2009 and decided to GREATLY simplify life. Smaller home, got rid of all kinds of 'stuff' and lived MUCH MUCH happier. Realized that stuff does not make you happy.

Stuff is fun, but nothing to build a life on.

I was joking around and made a 'flex' thread and it kind of evolved into thoughts on life.. But I disagree with the OP and I have lived all sides.

Those who seek money for happiness will not find happiness. Temporarily, sure they will find some happiness, but lasting happiness cannot be bought.

Money does not change people; it reveals them.

If you are an unhappy person, then money will just make you a rich unhappy person.

It's not a black and white thing. Having enough money to survive comfortably will make obtaining happiness easier, but the excess things you posted relating to comfort won't mean you're more likely to be a happier person. If anything trying to control the outcome of life to that extent makes you more miserable.

Also if we're talking past the millions money will make you less happy at that point. I don't even need to say why, just look at the eyes of these people and you can tell they're not happy.

Agree on all counts except for cleaning your space. For some reason I feel like employing/paying someone to do that is kind of cringe unless you live in a legit mansion and it would take forever

Health is a good one.

Money can substantially improve health outcomes.

More free time to exercise, better quality food.

When my wife found out she was pregnant I sent her to live in the capital (where there are basically zero Covid cases) in our “spare” apartment. Also we have a free public health system but we went private for obstetrics services so we actually got an OBGYN and technicians who can give us the best advice on test outcomes etc

In the US where health is both expensive and privately delivered I’m guessing the money = health argument is even stronger
