Yeah, it's pretty much gotten a ton of hype and coverage this year because apparently that asmongold fella and even Cohhcarnage and other streamers got into it.

Cohh is entirely hooked as well.

If you buy the game +the latest expansion pack, you get access to all the previous expansions + 30 days sub .... After that you need to sub to it monthly in order to pay. If you dont want to pay, you can play the free trial, which is basically the base game all the upto level 60.

And yep, there are some microtransactions, but they are mostly cosmetics, nothing that affects gameplay or boosts gameplay.
Trying it now. Damn, I feel like this is what I've been looking for for a long time now. Mad that I didn't try it much sooner. Any idea why it seems like it's only getting the hype recently? I did some quick search and a Realm Reborn was released in 2013 but I'm only seeing people hyping this game this year.

Its basically just the perfect storm. Iirc, they redid the beginning of the game so the questing is better, plus Blizzard/WoW imploding, plus big streamers hyping it.

Yeah, man, it's really good srs .... Well worth the time and effort if you give it a chance. Just take note what I said before, ARR (base game) can be a fukkin slog at times because there's so much typical mmo fetch quests, but it does get better .... I'm playing the first expansion heavensword and the quest design is notably better and there is far fewer annoying fetch quests.

Just play the trial and see what you think. I played the trial till level 30, enjoyed it so much that I bought the base game and the latest expansion, got my friend to sign me up to his guild so I can get dem guild benefits and it's been a really fun ride so far .... Not even bothered about other sp games coming out like GOT iki island etc lmao. I'm on the grind now.

Speaking of the community and how it's so great .... My guild called up for a raid and I said I'd join in, entered the party, turns out I was way too under leveled for that particular raid they were planning to do, so I naturally I was gonna leave the party and let someone else take my place... Instead they decided to do a lower level raid so that I could take part in it. Managed to hit two birds with one stone by getting some of dem raid drops and a quest I had in that particular raid.......Dassitmane.

Probably also because no new modern MMOs are offering something different too

Nah I'm actually cool with those earlier quests and I did all the side quests and enjoyed them even though I was just running around inside Ul'dah. I think I spent maybe more than 3 hours inside the city before I actually got to fight monsters, I could have gotten out sooner but I didnt, because I like the theme of the game and knew I'm gonna stick around so I made sure to read everything and talked to all npcs and accept and did all the quests inside before going out. Was worth it because I really got the feel of how the world is and how things work.

Loving the game a lot so far, you can even buy your own house lol. One thing from old school MMOs that I miss though is the player-based market. I dont think even FFXIV have the player-based economy that Ragnarok Online had.

In RO if you're going afk, no matter how long it would be, you can just go to the city and set up your own shop to sell your valuable items, some crafters even just sell potions. When I was in high school I would just sell my chit whenever I went to sleep. There were even times when there were hyper inflation or deflation of item prices, the game literally had a living economy. That chit was nuts. I hope a future MMOs would this again. Old school MMOs were brave af.

Lool .. Welcome to Eorzea, this is your life now brudda ... What job and race you playing? if you're in Uldah, i'm guessing you must be some sort of tank/melee char

Yeah it's fine to take the game at your own pace, though I really do suggest not to do too many sidequests since there's a fukton of them and you'll burn out quick ... Just do all the Main Quests (Meteor icon sign), the quests which have a blue icon and a + on them and then your job quests (these unlock skills for your job/class). The main quests give you the bulk of your exp, the blue ones unlock new game mechanics, dungeons. Also you can keep the sidequest stuff for later when you just want to get some additional exp if and when you decide to change your class.

Additional tips -

-Join the Grand Company when you're able to asap
-Do the grand company missions also as soon as you're able to and level up in rank as quick as you can
- Not only do they provide your first mount, you'll be able to redeem (once you rise up in rank) most of extra weapons/gear to them for GC seals which will let you buy all sorts of goodies and free up inventory space because that thing is gonna fill up quick as you progress through the game

aye I'm a gladiator. I always pick swordsman type character in every MMOs and even in single-player RPGs that I play lol.

So glad that FFXIV has almost the exact hairstyle I have too lmao

Thanks for the tips mane. Can you join a grand company without joining a guild? I'm still thinking whether to go solo-player or join a guild someday, since I've never experienced being a totally solo-player in all the other MMOs that I played in the past

Anyone else tried Twelve Minutes?

I'm not overly surprised it's getting some hate in the reviews. Definitely not for me, I think it's an interesting premise, but it handles pretty poorly (on console) and I can't get into the top-down view for what the game is.

Played about 30 minutes of it, so got through through cycle twice.

I think it'd be better on PC if it was handling better, it's basically just an escape room game, but yeah, it's not my favorite thing that's come out recently.

Hmm ... Yep, I do believe you can join a grand company without a guild. Guild is pretty useful imo, but I think you can just solo it. I've seen some high level dudes who wasnt part of a guild. Although some stuff you need a friend/guild just to make life easier. My level 80 decked out friend helped me gain 5 rare mounts by doing dungeon runs and farming fates for the grand company so I could lvl up. You can still do em solo + random duty finder of course, but it's gonna take a while.

Been doing the Heavensward story missions ..... cottdamn, its a huge step up in quality from realm reborn. Who knew Square had it in em to actually make a decent mmo when bethesda etc have all failed to make a similar impact.

Been playing the Iki Island DLC for Ghost of Tsushima. I'm about 3 hours into it and I'm really enjoying it so far. I don't really care for the Eagle as much as I enjoyed tracking down Kotun Kahn but it's more Ghost of Tsushima so I can't really complain, best game of the PS4 generation IMO.

Got to 50 on my paladin in FF14 and got my fancy armor set. Still have a ways to go to finish the main story since I was overleveled. Really need to figure out a good way to make Gil.

You'll be rolling in Gil once you get to HWS provided you're not retardly buying a bunch of useless stuff.. I have over one million gil now ..... Also can help if you have some items that can be sellable on the market through your retainers. Once you get to HWS, you'll start getting normal high quality gear which not only looks amazing, but they're sellable so you can put them up on the market for people to buy. I cant be fkked cross checking whats in my inventory with the market to see what the going rate, so I'm just selling it at the base price + marked up slightly and I'm very sure I'm kind of undercutting the other sellers on there lmao, but at least my stuff gets sold ..... Some sellers are retarded, I've seen the basic low quality items selling at 5000-1000 (even 1 mil) gil by some people.

The other way is apparently leveling up the sub classes, like the culinary, miner, botanist etc ... Once you're making high level items yourself they can go up a pretty penny on the market.

Does that mean that FFXIV actually has a player-based economy? Now I'm more interested.

I guess ff14 had maintenance last night so I checked out the Tales of Arise demo. Pretty fun. The cure points system kinda sucks though.

It’s pretty short but you can test out every character if you want. I only played it once with the main guy but it was enough for me to know that I want to get it.

Lmao ... Been playing since August 7th, but take note I'm on holiday and there's a lockdown, so I've legit been pulling in 8-12 hour rot sessions per day more or less and I'm beelining the main storyline quest. ARR is the longest and the biggest slog to get through since there's like 50 levels of content. HWS is shorter.

HWS I started last friday and reached the end last night, though I still have to go through some missions of the epilogue before I can start stormblood.

I know that I can't use the shout, yell, or tell in FF XIV but I'm still on free trial, but I have not seen anyone say anything even though I know I'm in a busy server because sometimes I have to wait a few minutes in queue to enter. Is it just because I'm on free trial so I can't see what others are saying? or is it that most people are chatting in their own guild?

And another thing that's not clear to me, if I buy the Complete Edition, will Endwalker be free to me or I still need to buy that too?

Man, I’m conflicted with FF14. I’m really enjoying it but with Tales of Arise and D2 coming out next month, I might have to put it on the back burner for now. I bought the complete edition while it was 60% off so I only have like 15 out of the free 30 days left. May try and finish ARR and then come back later.

Just got Assassin's Creed Origins on Steam Sale and liking it so far. Hard to judge the gameplay yet but it reminds me a lot of the old Assassin's Creed games. It looks visually really good and the first town is large af, I love that, feels like I'm in a real ancient Egyptian town.

Quake seems to be harder than I remember, although this is the first time I've played on a console and not a PC. Even on normal difficulty, shamblers are lethal. The basic shotgun enemies seem to do crazy damage.

It could just be that I'm rusty with the old-skool shooters and just need to get the movement sorted.

Love the setting on all the AC games. I just find they get a bit repetitive.

That's true. It helped that I took a very long break from AC games, except for AC: China, which is a very different game

Alright I now really believe that FFXIV is the best MMORPG at the moment.

Made a new character in a more populous server and I'm enjoying it so much more. I'm seeing people even at 2-4am in my time so I feel much more like I'm in an MMO now. Also explored more about the class system, damn it's great that you don't need to make a new account to try other classes.

Passed by this party having a concert in the middle of the street at like 5am lol

This is really all I'm looking for in an MMORPG right now. Feels like I'm in the world of Mushoku Tensei, if anyone watched the anime lol. No matter how strong you are in one class, if you try another you have to undergo being a weakling again in that new class. I'm hooked, I played like 6 hours straight lol.

I think I need to take a break from it, sunk like 200 hours into and only had it for like 2 months.

It’s those damn coils of behamouth that’s winding me up. I’m been stuck on turn 9 for like 2 weeks now
