I had my genome tested by ancestry.com and I'm 100% NW European (Britain/Scotland/Ireland with 1-2% Sweden etc mixed in there), and I promise you I'd never be that tan.

BUT - I definitely wasn't thinking about that when I made the post. So when you combine the living outdoors with all the hair and dirt (which I haven't seen anyone mention yet - surely they'd have a layer of dirt on them a lot of the time), they'd certainly darker than people who live indoors all day.

I still wonder if they were really that dark, but when you combine a few explanations, we can get closer.

When babies were born they would just grip them by the skull and pull them out. Grip strength was much better back then.

The bold part is mostly wrong. Not all early migrations into Europe led to a genetic legacy. Sure, some blonde hair genes reached Scandinavia and North East Europe around the same time. However, it wasn't until Yamnaya (aka Indo-European or Aryan) migrations around 5500 BC that Europe became truly blonde.

I think it's accepted they were darker, to what extent is debatable. Often the reconstructions may be coloured darker or lighter for political reasons. Regardless, even if they were blick their closest modern descendants are Estonians not Africans.

We shouldn't forget that these were people who spent all their lives outside without sunscreen or anything and were probably pretty dirty. They are just going to have a dark appearance.
