Used to go to equinox when I commuted to NYC daily.
If you can afford it, well worth the money. Everyone is in top shape and the facilities are gorgeous. You will be motivated every day you are there to succeed. Was in the best shape of my life those days.
Would pay membership fees for the shower and sauna alone.

If you're already deep into your fitness routine, and look good, and know what you're doing and all that, you could easily befriend somebody who has their chit together in every other way in their life except their fitness routine. These are the kinds of people that know that surrounding yourself with the proper energy can help them.the networking/social aspects alone might be worth it
That being said, I never did Equinox when I lived in Manhattan. I did New York Health and Racket Club. $139/mo and my home one was the 57th street location, but I could go to all, and the class of people who come in is just way way way better than the blink fitness ****g00ts who clog up each and every location at all hours of the day. Great steam room/sauna/showers, indoor basketball court, weightroom at 50% capacity or less when I walked in, empty AF rooms to do abs and stretch in 100% pure and utter silence. You're not getting that blink and I certainly don't get that at Planet Fitness where I workout now.
A solid gym membership is always worth it. Equinox? Maybe. But you at least should aim higher than the walmart gyms. Planet is just so convenient for me because its right there, but I'm upgrading when I move.

i looked at Life Time but i decided i wouldn't use 99% of the facilities so the $150/month wasn't worth it to me. and it seemed like a bunch of old frumpy ugly Boomers in there. also i saw some toddlers and teens running around and that turned me off. i don't want to deal with a bunch of suburban families.

I got to LifeTime fitness which is similar to Equinox in my city ($150) a month and for me it's worth only for the prime sloots, always cleaned, weights almost always re racked. If a machine is busted it's fixed within a week or two until the parts come in. Always getting new equipment, so nothing is over 3 or so years old.
Also, like people said, keeps a lot of the RiffRaff out.
My bro goes to LA fitness where he lives and he can't stand it. It's dirty, equipment is always broken and never fixed. He can't stand it, but it's in walking distance from his place. But he is switch since he's moving in a few weeks.

I did a trial membership at Equinox and the main benefits are the following:
-Bathrooms and facilities in general are clean as phuck. Like literally spotless. Doesn't feel grimey like a lot of commercial gyms
-Not super crowded bc of exclusivity. I didn't have to wake up before work or go super late to avoid "curls in squat rack" bros like I do at LA fitness
That's pretty much it, but those benefits are definitely worth A premium in my book. The girls are hot, but so are a lot of the girls at my commercial gym, especially if you go at off-peak hours because that's when real gym bunnies, not cardio bunnies, come in. I realized that i probably save around 10-15 mins a session by not waiting around on people or having my equipment taken when I'm supersetting between multiple pieces of equipment. That said, is it worth the 3-4x premium? Probably not. Now that i"m earning more money, I'd consider it, but it's not the first choice of luxury items I'd buy.

What do you think of it?
For those unaware, its a luxury gym (not country club) that offers weightroom, sauna, pool & showers, and tons of fitness classes for $215/month.
I would definitely make use of it for the lifting, yoga, and sauna/shower on weekdays. And sometimes add boxing, and cycling/pilates on weekends.
In addition you get access to high-end sloots.

Don't think of it a as a gym, its more like a small scale spa/sauna that has weights. When I lived in NYC I was a member of them AND Blink
(a $20 a month no frills gym). I did most of my workouts at Blink but would go to Equinox when I wanted something nice/it was convenient.
If you're a baller and that price is pennies to you, then yeah its worth it. Absolutely cleanest place I've ever been, really nice amenities, rub elbows with well-to-do, HBB's, no trashy annoying people, and the equipment is high quality.

After reading each one of the replies in this thread, it seems that what a gym is used for varies from person to person.
I never wanted towels( I bring my own, hygenic), the spotless bathroom( 30 sec in there at most) a spa environment( nope), or top tier people( only if she is cute).
I was mostly concerned with functioning equipment, temperature, and the widest variety/brands of machines possible.

lots of people ITT simply don't get it
I pay $105/mo for the nicest gym in Kansas City (directed by a former LA Equinox director, similar vibes and environment) and it is absolutely worth it. Yes, the premium is for the sauna/steam room/cold plunge/hot tub area, outdoor pool, spa-like feel, community, etc... If I were in a city with an Equinox (especially that beachfront one posted on first page hnnnngh) I would absolutely pay $200+/mo for it
The gym is my happy place, its where I go to escape stress and add to my quality of life. The energy is great at these types of gyms. The girls that you hit on can afford an expensive gym membership, no having to deal with peasants. The people are just generally more pleasant and less hood... you deal with a higher class of people (srs) sounds pretentious but not having to deal with peasants is actually really nice and makes for a better experience for me
To put this all in perspective, there are people on the supplements section (or special supplements section) who easily spend $100/mo on supplements... some people spend significantly more than that on special supplements... at the end of the day, $100-200/mo is not much fuking money

I had a conference in SF a few years ago and decided to meet up with an old buddy at Equinox…god I never felt so out of place 🙁
People weren’t huge or even looked like lifted weights but everyone seemed to be in shape, clean cut, and “business like”.

My oneitis has access to Equinox. I still want to bang even though I hate him. Can't help it. It's the top gym in the US. My own gym was the best in the world, until I saw his gym and realized there were even kushier gyms. Set my loins on fire. I realized I'm the worst kind of hoe, but goddamn you should see it. It's like paradise. And for him it's an elevator trip away. All access pass. hnnnnnng. Oh dern just came again.

I should stay away from the misc. The best gyms are the ones you don’t know exist. There are country clubs type gyms. Where you have a valet park and fetch your car. You get your shoes shined while you work-out. Meals provided by a chef… rooftop pool. But these clubs are private and usually for not just people with $, but FUKK YOU money.
some part of me hopes he'll just get married. I know deep down I don 't want him back. I'm just wildly attracted to his gym and his body. And then there's the fact that he was my first human friend and we've known each other since we were toddlers. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. Whenever he comes back, all we do is fight.
That's it I'm ****king his replacement. my gym is LOVELY. I just got a new toy installed. His name is john and he's a glute machine.

I would sometimes go in just to take a nap or chill as well srs. Each equinox had really nice lounge areas with areas to charge your phone/laptop if you need to
The other nice part is that the guys who do go there do not do compound lifts so squat racks and benches are usually always free even at prime time hours.
Another nice thing that I noticed is that there’s very few boomercels. Gym was mostly attractive dudes no homo and hot Instagram models. Which means the locker room isn’t filled with weird naked old dudes. Guys just went in, changed, did their workout and went on their way.
I would not get a membership outside of Manhattan however. It just seems like a waste of money.

Earlier ITT I came to the conclusion that I’d just have separate gym membership and yoga membership and pay only $120 a month.
Now from the later replies, I realized it’s worth an Equinox membership for the next 3 years of my life as I look for a wife. Sure hot girls are at my LA Fitness but they’re not wife material.
Plus I am always afraid of touching things in 24 Hour Fitness and LAFitness.
When I had 24 Hour Fitness:
- Gay men constantly hitting on me because I have a baby face and had an amazing body back then. They thought I was 18-22 years old but I was actually early 30’s.
- One of the workers said they would find used condoms in the jacuzzi. Srs.
- One guy asked me for help starting a routine because he said I had it together. I didn’t mind helping. Turned out he was a gay guy trying to get closer to me. He offered to buy me things, but I told him I was super straight. I didn’t have to worry about him for long. He was stabbed 20 times and strangled to death by a jealous lover, who also went to the gym. My girlfriend at the time screamed at me because I could have been caught up in all that.
-I became friends with a crew after asking for a spot and they adopted me in their crew. But it soon dissolved. One guy went to jail for violating his parole. Another guy was a 50 year old ex-bodybuilder selling gear at the gym but moved after divorce. Another was a high school kid who moved for college.
- Once I lost my crew, another crew started talking **** and things were escalating every time I saw them. But I was alone now and they always showed up together. What used to be friendly faces at the gym became an i unenjoyable time.
- A couple times my sleep was messed up and I went to workout at 2 am. A 45 year old Asian dude created a pillow with a few gym provided towels and was sleeping on the floor right below the pull up bar. I saw him sleeping there several different days through my time being a member. Turns out the gym is $40/month cheap rent and provides bathrooms, lockers and shower lol.
- Another time I went to the dance studio at late hours to do jump rope. I finished and turned around to leave. There’s a woman sleeping in the open closet area on top of all the stored yoga mats. I had no idea or else I probably would have skipped my jump roping so not to wake her.
I ended up moving to a new apartment and switched to LA Fitness.
- Broken equipment that never gets fixed.
- Squat rack broken so everyone waiting in line to use one rack and cage. Of course the cage is used by the guy who does 8 sets with 10 minute breaks while he smugly sits on the phone. Nobody works in with each other because it’s Covid.
- During winter, a pipe broke and flooded the basement locker rooms. They closed the gym down for 3 months. Then they’d delay the opening for additional one month as the time would approach. Gym was closed for a total of 9 months. Turns out they were negotiating with insurance the whole time. Something like that would never take more than 2 months at Equinox.
- Gay dude quickly takes a seat behind me when I get on platform to do stiff leg deadlifts. It was like he was breaking out the popcorn. I Bert stare through the mirror until he embarrassingly leaves. Dude didn’t even try to lift at that machine. Same thing happened to my girlfriend doing hip thrusts - some dude sat across her and broke the popcorn out. She got up in disgust and switched stations.
- I never dare go into the locker room out of fear of gay men.
- There are hot girls but they’re not classy, not big earners or highly educated.
Thanks for reading my deer diary, but that’s a reason why to pay for Equinox for the next 3 years until I find a wife. Gym and yoga is the only way to meet women since you can’t meet them at work anymore.
