Because I recently got a job, I finally have some money and a replenishing income at least for now. I have felt that since I stopped boxing years ago there has been a void that hasn’t been filled since. But I came to the realization a couple of weeks ago that I had to return to boxing, my former passion.
So today I showed up at my old gym, brought a friend with me, saw my old coaches who were happy to see me and glad I brought them a new student. I am 25 years old now, I hadn’t stepped foot into a MMA or boxing gym since I was 20, I was training on and off from 16-19 and a little bit at 20 but not as much, before I stopped going. I have still been shadow boxing and hitting the heavy bag to keep my skills from getting too rusty. But I felt pretty good today, I still felt like I had it.
Just figured I would share this little story, mentally I just feel better going there. I also trained arms after. Thinking about competing in an amateur bout, I just feel like it’s something I have to do, it’s something I thought about years ago. I would spar some really good boxers and I always held my own, often times I’d get the better of these guys. Maybe it’s too late for me to fight Canelo, but I think competing locally would give me that fulfillment I’ve been looking for and put those questions I had to rest.

Good to hear brah. I remember your thread from a few weeks or months back when you were looking for a job.

Doing smokers and amateur fights are a great way to keep in the combat sport world but not have to go full on. You can work or go to school and still have fun in a serious and disciplined manner without the trade-offs of making it a full time professional goal. Good going OP, have fun.

I guess when you have that boxer/fighter brain you have to always be doing some sort of training, or else you always have that void in your life or that itch you need to scratch.

Nice. I want to get back in the MMA gym next year. Been focusing purely on getting better at golf right now, and the cost of that and the MMA gym is just too much to stomach right now.

loved boxing but even sparring, just felt it wasn’t worth taking shots to the head with zero aspirations of turning pro

That's cool and you're not too old at all. But I think you dodged a bullet by giving up early in terms of brain health, and you don't want to give those neuro gains up unless you're getting a million bucks a fight and I don't think you will.

I'm in a similar situation brah, just getting back into martial arts after a long hiatus. Only difference is I am 46 now, haven't been training properly since 2017 but like you I have been home training to keep a semblance of my former skills at least. I'm a Judo black belt and have about 21 years of training in different styles such as Kyokushin Karate( the full contact one, not mall strip krotty)Japanese Jujutsu and a bit of Muay Thai. About to start BJJ and Shotokan Karate, where I live now there are really limited options...it sucks cos I really miss the rough training and full contact sparring of Judo and Kyokushin
Anyway, good luck with your training boyo

Any suggestions for someone wanting to get into it?
Thinking it'd be a good way to get cardio workouts in and not as lame as running
Also don't know how to throw a punch or fight and am thinking just knowing how would improve confidence and stuff - not that I'd ever fight irl

Das it op.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Someone asked me in a rep who I thought would win, the Fury/Wilder fight. It’s a closer fight to predict than many are thinking. The issue here is Wilder gained a significant amount of muscle mass, which for his style isn’t going to do him any favors, his punching power isn’t much coming from muscle mass, much if it is dependent on his speed. Him being bigger is only going to slow him down and make it easier for Fury to counter him, Wilder also might tire out quicker. However Fury looks more out of shape than I’ve seen him in recent memory, he’s lost muscle and gained fat in comparison to his last fights with Wilder. It’s very possible that Wilder clips Fury, but it’s not something I would bet on. So my prediction is Fury wins the fight but I would be surprised at all if Wilder wins.
Mind you I’m one of few people who predicted Usyk would beat Joshua, and I had been saying he would beat Joshua for years.

Go ahead bro, I think 25 is still a good age to compete in some amateur's bouts and maybe win a title, especially if you boxed before.
I know damn well that itch that boxing brings especially when you actually have an act for it.
I also sopped boxing for years and recently went to a local boxing gym, did some sparring as well.
What I realized unfortunately is that I'm too old for it. I'm 32 now.
My body is too broken down from all the years of pounding from different sports, lifting and especially boxing. Joints, bones, all fuked up. I couldn't do shiet, I sucked too much for my standards, it was like my mind was seeing something that it used to do in the past but my body just couldn't do it or react to it. I realize I would suck after years of not doing hard sparring, but it was something else. Felt really old in there.
Even tho I miss that Godlike feeling boxing used to give me, I just can not justify putting my body thro all that pounding again, especially in this time and age of my life.
All that to say, go for it while you still can and have to age for it, because old age really does creep in like a modafuker, and suddenly its too late.
Best of luck brother, work hard.
