Proper fight with hard gangsters, pics, vids

Enough of girly men hand bagging each other in KFC and UFC tapouts, this was proper British fighting:

“Mouth is what started their epic three-bout feud. Roy Shaw had fought in a number of bare-knuckle fights with gypsies and became known as the "unofficial heavyweight champ" and "the hardest man in Britain." Lennie McLean got wind of it and took umbrage. He had made a name for himself as the number 1 street fighter in England, "the King of the Cobbles". In his head, he was the "Guv'nor," and the hardest man in Britain, not Roy "Pretty Boy" Shaw.”

Zero talent idiots. The whole tough guy thing was exposed in 1994 when the top undefeated bare knuckle UK 'hardman' Joe Savage fought washed up boxer Bert Cooper & got his ass handed to him in under 2 minutes. Reality is both McLean & Shaw would have got knocked into next week if they had fought Bugner or Bruno.

I was quite impressed at Shaw standing up after all those punches

The fooking GOV'NAH was an absolute animal. Wish I could hear him opine about the clown nation of soyboys his country has become.

Don't think this would be true in a bareknuckle fight with bareknuckle rules.

Think it would-the reality is all these fights were were guys throwing wild punches with mostly no defensive skills & they lacked the endurance of professional athletes-you can see in the videos how quickly they run out of gas & most of the guys they were fighting were out of shape binmen, bouncers etc.

This. Zero head movement. And while they look pretty big, those punches seem to lack actual KO power, which is why they're seen as 'super-tough' because they can absorb so many punches that didn't have KO power to begin with.

Don't get me wrong. They're some gritty dudes, but point being they are definitely NOT some 'extinct-alpha-male' that you can't find anywhere today. Nothing special, really.

Yep, I am sure they could have cleaned the clocks of most regular guys in the UK-but they are more like council estate bullies who intimidate the other residents because they are big. Put a bully in with a similar sized trained athlete who has been trained by the best, spent their lives training for endurance & skill & they will not last long. There is a reason these guys were underground fighters-because they didn't have the talent to make it as pro boxers. They just stand there with no guard absorbing head damage & blow up after a minute or two. Frank Warren who was McLean's cousin saw some of it & said there was nothing much there of any quality-he described McLean as a big-mouthed monkey brawler.

Bareknuckle fights never last more than one or two rounds so having good cardio isn’t really a relevant metric to those guys.

I guess I’d just put it like this— you see plenty of bareknuckle guys do unlicensed boxing matches and/or fighting professional boxers. I’ve yet to hear about one professional boxer going into the bareknuckle world.

Problem is in most of these fights they were wearing boxing gloves & they wouldn't be able to knock pro boxers out-because pro boxers have footwork & defensive skills rather than just standing there getting hit with flurries until they fall over.

I would put it like this-you don't see top WWE or NJPW wrestlers earning hundreds of thousands or millions a year & working in MSG, Tokyo Dome etc suddenly deciding to go do outlaw mud show garbage wrestling, in a ring in a field with 50-100 rednecks cheering as they roll around in barbed wire & broken glass for a 50 dollars payoff. You don't see actors earning millions a film suddenly deciding they need to go & do amateur films for a couple of hundred quid, or that they suddenly need to start doing porn for a couple of grand a scene. They are totally different worlds-why would a boxer who could be getting millions per fight & at worst probably tens of thousands per bout suddenly decide they want to start fighting the local bouncer or garbage collector in some underground garage or sports hall for a few hundred quid?

That fight I posted was the best UK bare knuckle fighter with a 41-0 record against a years past his prime boxer & he couldn't even last two minutes. That is the reality.

Most regular guys.. lmao. Lenny had as many as 4000 fights. He debt collected for crime families and worked on the Hippodrome doors. This is a guy who bit through someone's windpipe, was often challenged with knives and was even shot. He was clearly a nutcase from past trauma, but there's a reason why he's so notorious. I wouldn't pay much attention to what fish eyes Warren says in some YouTube clip. They were 'second cousins', but didn't like each other.

Sounds like bs-he likely had hundreds of fights. As I said I have no doubt he could have beaten most UK guys in a fight, but he would have been knocked out quick against a heavyweight boxer of any class.

Yeah that's exactly my point. The reason bareknuckle fights last two rounds is because they aren't wearing gloves and just stand there and wail on each other. Boxing gloves don't protect the person getting hit, they protect the person who's doing the hitting.

Even if you could put together a multi-million dollar payday for a bareknuckle champ to take on a "real" boxer, I will bet whatever amount you want that there would be zero takers because it's a completely different ball of wax and all the footwork and defense in the world isn't going to help you against a guy who can just walk through your punches, put you on the ropes, and destroy your jaw. If having good footwork and defense in the bareknuckle game was the best strategy, obviously they would be doing it.

And BTW, yeah brah, you see tons of NBA players going to the Rucker to play pick up games, for exactly the reason that the basketball community doesn't take you seriously if you can't play on the street as well as the Staples Center. Same with actors, plenty of famous actors go to the arthouse scene to make indies after they've become famous.

I love boxing, but I have no idea why you keep putting them on a pedestal in this thread. They're athletes and would likely get quickly iced of someone like Lenny in a street fight.

Except if you watch these 1970's & 1980's 'bare knuckle fights' with Shaw, McLean etc they are in reality always wearing boxing gloves-because they were actually unlicensed boxing matches & not two guys using their bare fists in a no holds barred fight-so the whole thing is a misnomer & there was no bare knuckle circuit for a boxer to fight in if they so wished. The only difference from boxing aside from the lack of skill was the refs allowing things to go to where somebody could have died or ended up in a coma.

I have no idea about Basketball or what the Rucker is-but I highly doubt that any Basketball player is throwing away their contract to go & play minor leagues or on the street permanently. Yes, huge actors make art house films sometimes, but they don't jack in making blockbusters paying millions to pursue a career in making niche flicks. Joe Root is not going to quit playing for England & Yorkshire to go & play in the Bradford leagues in Cricket.

Not putting them on a pedestal-the point is these bare knuckle fighters wore gloves-so it was unlicenced boxing & not a street fight, so clearly a pro fighter would knock these amateurs who couldn't get licenced out fast-as shown by the one time a washed up boxer did fight one in 1994. A street fight is about biting, kicking, using weapons, who gets the first punch in usually wins etc-there is no discipline or rules. Quite possibly McLean would have kicked a boxers ass in a street fight, but who knows-a lot of boxers grew up fighting on the streets & boxing saved them from a life of crime & street fighting has nothing to do with what these guys were doing-they were getting in a boxing ring with gloves & throwing punces, not fighting with bare hands.

Joe Root is not going to quit playing for England & Yorkshire to go & play in the Bradford leagues in Cricket.
They did unlicensed boxing too brah, you're moving the goal posts though.

Anyway, you're free to disagree with me.

There are/were bareknuckle promotions brah. Most unlicensed boxers weren't "too unskilled" to get licensed, they had lengthy organized crime records which excluded them from consideration.

I guess I’d just put it like this— you see plenty of bareknuckle guys do unlicensed boxing matches and/or fighting professional boxers. I’ve yet to hear about one professional boxer going into the bareknuckle world.
I've been in street fights with pro fighters both alongside and against and I can tell you with 100% certainty that ring skills do not translate well to the streets or vice versa. It's a completely different environment. The first time I was actually shocked. I got into a brawl with a world champion kickboxer on my side and out of the whole crew, he got manhandled the most. He was a manlet tho lmao.
