Games are great in moderation... we all need some form of escapism to release the stress that modern life places on us. Whether that be miscing, playing video games, watching our favorite tv shows/movies, reading fictional books. At the end of the day these are all "programs" in the sense you are temporarily escaping your reality to immerse yourself in another world and forget about life for a good moment. Nothing wrong with that, if done in moderation...

Ancient civilizations/few hundreds of years ago (just before technology, lol) humans also passed time for fun. They played games outside, acted out on stage for shows for their village, played music. Heck even kings/queens had court jesters to entertain them. All forms of escapism as well. There is no difference, fundamentally.

I myself used to be addicted to video games and would play 3-4 hours a day after work. Once I realized that was a waste of time I had so much free time to pursue other things like reading, investing, learning how to cut my hair, get into mountain biking. Now I only limit myself to a few hours a week on the weekends and only after I accomplished what I needed to do for that day.

Videogames are great for teaching planning.

They are also semi-creative which helps people think differently and step outside of their bubble.

The only thing wrong with them is if the person has nothing important to do in real life they might end up playing the game to substitute real life. That's their problem though if they do that. If not, games are better than movies because the player is more mentally engaged.

There's nothing wrong with that in your case.

But let's look at Messomi now:

Same guy slipped up one thread and admitted to being in his 50's (mid to late 50's mind you), no wife or GF, no kids, no family, no prospects for any type of "adult" life, just video games, fapping, and being obsessed with superior males on the dying gay Indian bodybuilding forum...

Most miscers: For perspective imagine your parents stalking miscers, negging them faithfully every couple weeks etc LMFAOOO

In that case LMFAOOOO at video games.

Messomi jealously stalks guys like me because he's salty that he spent all his "alphamaxxxing" years fantasizing about being Mario or some dragon slaying knight or w/e LMFAOOOO

Messomi you lying little Timmy.

In another thread months ago you wrote several paragraphs on what life was like as a teenager in the 80's.

You're mid-late 50's and might even be in your early 60's.

Videogames are basically a side-effect free anti-depressant (srs).
It's clinically proven that videogames reduce stress levels, hence why people often play after work and spend lots of time hyped for games.
This effect is especially potent if the game is well designed (ie: Japanese games) and not the new crop of ****ty lootbox games which are actually stress inducing.
I think shooters like COD have been proven to especially release stress.

Frankly the solution is not eliminating videogames. Better a gamer than a sex addict going to prostitutes, or a drug abuser, or worse.

Exactly same I do. What I do is only play/buy a few games that are truly good each year, and don't give a F about others.
I always check reviews carefully first. When I game, it's not escapism, it's more like enjoying a fine wine.
It reduces my stress levels, makes me happy, and I can then be more productive in other areas of life.
It's no different than watching a great film, but in fact its even greater because you have agency in games.

Nintendo Switch when you are stuck on a long flight is pretty awesome.

Other than that, I game maybe 4 or 5 times a year.

I got into cars and that pretty much was the end of gaming for me.

INB4 also immature waste of time and $. Yeah, but I'm having more fun than I ever did gaming.
