Just a day ago, Russia's parliament voted to recognize the Luhansk People's Republic and Donetsk as independent, which would provide some appearance of legitimacy Russia being even more aggressive in their defense.

there's been back and forth deadly conflict between Ukrainian forces and Russian forces right along the line of contact in Donbas for 7+ years; ever since Russian forces took over Luhansk-Donetsk from Ukraine under orders from Putin

there are literally trenches and other fortifications by both sides all across the front line spaced a few hundred meters to a km apart.


HOWEVER ...

It was discovered a week and a half ago that the Russians were preparing a false flag in Donbas to blame Ukraine and to be used as a fake excuse casus belli for Russia's attack on Ukraine ... just like they did with numerous other invasions and attacks in the past for example Georgia 2008.

It was also discovered that the planned go time by Russia was last night after midnight eastern US time or 8 am Moscow time. So we're instead just 24 hrs after the original time.

The Russian gov incl Putin and his controlled media have been building a false narrative against Ukraine as well and even yesterday Putin called the Donbas situation a 'genocide' when in reality the only one creating problems there is him.

It could be real. Ukranians are ethnically Russian, as it is a former Soviet territory. How much of their armed forces are loyal to Russia, or their own bank accounts.

Look at what happened when Russia took Crimea, Ukraine militia groups esentially defeated the Ukraine army allowing Russian tanks to roll in without resistance. If there are enough armed citizens separatists to create a force large enough to defeat the countries army. Whats to say their army and government isn't compromised and infiltrated by separatists loyal to Putin.

Someone sympathetic to the separtist movement or loyal to Russia could easily conduct or order a false flag

Eastern Ukraine is heavily Russian influenced, Russian is spoken mainly and a huge part do align themselves with Russia over Kyiv/EU. A big part of the population has family/friends/cousins etc that live on both sides of the border. One thing people from the west don't seem to understand is just how mixed up Ukrainian and Russian society is.

My family is Russian/Ukrainian, I may not live there anymore but still have relatives/friends that do.

This. Its a problem for the Ukrainian gov/militaryIts not just Russians living in Ukraine that identify with Russia. Its Ukrainians living in Ukraine that align themselves more with Russia over the EU. Because of culture/language/history etc. This is a problem for Kyiv.

Ukraine has an active military of around 200k + reserves. I really highly doubt that russian backed separatists in eastern ukraine number anything remotely close to that.

Russia has however claimed they would counterattack if russians in ukraine are attacked. So we will see what happens with that. Not saying it will, but it sounds like 1990s balkan type deal. Powderkeg situation of peace.

It is no BS that Soros financed a color revolution in Ukraine that started this whole thing. The neocon and neoliberal propaganda is not BS either. It has been painting a picture for Western audiences.

Russia has put in place a defensive force. The movements to surround Russia are very real and have been going on for almost thirty years (predating the Soros financed revolution in 2014 and going right back to the Yeltsin years). Russia is in a position that it must decide if it will allow itself to be surrounded or draw a line in the sand.

The CIA and Mossad have been engaged in their psychological warfare and Western media has upped the propaganda.

Russia would be very foolish to not set up a major defensive force at this point.

Very recently Russia, China, and Iran did joint military exercises. They are preparing.
