Our world incorrectly defines love as something you feel toward someone; it's why divorce is so high.
Anyone can appreciate someone's genetically gifted beauty; or like the way someone laughs; or the nuances and quirks of someone's personality. But those are things you enjoy being around because they bring you satisfaction. That's not love, that's lust and selfish at it's core - you want them in your life because you desire those things in YOUR life. But what happens when that person is an azzhole because they had a sh*t day? Beauty fades? You hit a stonewall when disagreeing about the best path forward? Those things you "love" about them become utterly irrelevant and divorce enters the picture because they are no longer providing those things that were the only reason you were keeping them around.
Love is the care and empathy for [insert noun].
Love isn't the butterflies in your stomach because you think she's just so darn perdy.
Love is reading to the kids before bed after a 12 hr day because they asked and you value the growth of their brain over your rest.
Love is cleaning out the wife's car after your kids destroyed it just because you want her to have that feeling of pride in a nice, clean and neat, and organized vehicle.

I think my wife is physically beautiful, but that's not what keeps us together.
I think my wife is a beautiful human being and, therefore, what keeps us together is the thought of her being drug down by the world and treated as anything less than God's gift to me makes me angry. So I do whatever I can to love her and view her through the eyes of a loving father. My desire is to have her experience the best version of herself. When she experiences joy, it brings me joy. Thankfully I have a wife who views me and my kids the exact same way.

We're imperfect people and the above isn't how it always is. We fight - sometimes huge fights over dumb sh*t - but ultimately we reconcile when we both humble ourselves and admit we aren't loving the other. It's why when I hear guys talk about being in the dog house or never winning arguments with their wives I'm confused and I can't relate. We've both been wrong an equal number of times and have said sorry an equal number of times. But it's also why our marriage will out last all their's.
