Do you really have to identify yourself in public like that?

I believe you dont need to even provide a drivers license to a cop unless they said you committed a traffic violation

He’s on private property and engaging in non-suspicious behavior. He doesn’t have to ID ****.

Holy chit some of you should not be saying anything if you dont know what in the fukk youre talking about

1. He is under suspicion of comitting a crime of at least trespassing

2. You are required to ID yourself if you are being detained

3. He brought this on himself by being a dick and combative when all he had to do was identify himself (give his legal name)

4. Cops fukked up by not letting him go after it was clear he was allowed to be there. Their ego wouldn't allow them to simply let him go.

Uh, if you're asked to show you have permission to be on a private residence you certainly do; otherwise you're trespassing

Being a brother in Christ and and Pastor he should know better than to let pride get in the way. The bible itself says to obey the government. All he had to do is calmly show some humility and identify himself, that he was allowed to be there, and none of this would have happened. Instead he let his ego (stating he doesn't have to do anything and stated with such pride and arrogance he used to be a cop and is a pastor) get in the way. Being a pastor doesn't give someone a free pass to be an ******* to cops.

Everyone watches this knowing up front that he is doing a favor for a neighbor with the home owner's consent for him to be there. And that he's a pastor, which of course has great legal bearing on such a matter.

What if you were just told the police receive a report of a man on the grounds of a house where he is not believed to be a resident, and the police question him and he confirms he's not a resident but gives an otherwise acceptable excuse for being there without providing any proof or identifying himself, should the police just let him be? Yes you say, OK.

And the police always do that, and everyone up to no good just say they have the owner's permission to be there, and the police do nothing, and eventually (soon!) someone is murdered by a burglar who the police just let be because they had an excuse, and then we hear.... THE POLICE SHOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING BUT THEY JUST LET HIM GO!

The first amendment gives anyone the right to say anything to the police. The police are supposed to be professional. That means even if they’re being verbally abused, they must utilize restraint and not do anything back.

Do you think it would be acceptable for a sales associate at Target to attack a customer if a customer called them an ass hole? No, of course not.

If you have a rude customer at work, does that give you the ability to be rude back? No, you must remain calm and professional.

But yet, you think it’s acceptable for a cop to be rude and unprofessional back. That’s illogical.

You know you're wrong hence not addressing my point and making up some other complete random BS. He was the one who escalated the situation by being belligerent and not cooperating. The police were VERY professional, calm, and respectful until Mr Pride started acting a fool about how he doesn't have to comply because he is a Pastor and used to be a cop. You get what you give.

I'm not a legal expert, but isn't someone calling about a "suspicious person" on private property enough probably cause for requesting identification?

However who is to not say a "suspicious person" isn't on their own private property in a different circumstance? I'm not trying to justify what had happened, just trying to breakdown the law without having personal bias. (Ded fkn Srs)

Sure, and the pastor said “I’m pastor Jennings and I’m watering my neighbors flowers while they’re out of town.”

He identified himself and it’s clear from any reasonable observer that he was watering flowers.

If the cops had an issue with it they could sit there on the streets and observe the guy watering flowers.

Alabama also does not have a stop and ID law. So he doesn’t have to do jack **** to identify himself.
